Old Navy Micro Stripe Suit – Jacket $49.50 | Pants $29.50
Credit to Dappered.com reader Chris R. for noticing this ridiculously inexpensive summer suit, and sending a style tip into our inbox. Before you turn your nose up at this cotton micro-stripe suit from Old Navy, hear me out.
In 2004 I bought a gray wool herringbone blazer off Oldnavy.com sight unseen. I still have it and I still wear it during the colder months. I never needed it tailored, and since then Old Navy has been my first stop for casual jackets. I now own three other Old Navy Blazers, one of which is my go-to for nights out that call for dark jeans and a black well tailored jacket.
The jacket and pants are labeled as Suit Separates on Oldnavy.com, so they’re meant to be paired with each other. I have not seen these in store yet, but when I do I’ll try them on and update you on the fit. Old Navy cotton blazers usually need to be brought in at the sides, but they already have a bit of contouring built in so it’s not a drastic change.
If, and it’s not that big of an if… the pants and jacket look decent off the rack, $20-$30 worth of tailoring could leave you with a dirt-cheap summer suit. Which is something every guy could make use of from May – August.
