Allen Edmonds St. John’s Double Monk – $395 | Liverpool Chelsea – $445
Page 16 of the latest Allen Edmonds catalog (titled “Summer Surf & Turf”). Two new styles for the fall, and fall can’t get here quick enough. A new double monk strap with brogue inspired perforations and a medallion at the toe. The Chelsea is steep in retail price, but fingers are crossed that they get marked down during a big sale in the future. Catalog claims they’re online-exclusives, but at post time, these aren’t on their site. UPDATE: They hit the AE site on Thursday 6/2/16.
Banana Republic 6″ Mesh Lined Swim Trunk – $35.50 ($59.50)
There are two men’s-style truths that these swim trunks take on: 1. Swimwear is pricey, and 2. Green doesn’t get used nearly enough. Not only do these go on sale all the time, they also use a terrific shade of darker green. Leans more towards a cool hue than warm. 6″ inseam should work well for most guys, since the majority of us seem to favor swim trunks that are shorter than our normal every day shorts.
J. Crew Textured Cotton Crew in Nautical Stripe – $59.50
Really hope the texture here is something that’s sorta rough, like a slub. Not squishy or mushy like a lot of cotton cardigans can feel. Could be a terrific budget alternative to the LE Cashmere crew. A new arrival. Was just going for an extra 30% off over the holiday weekend.
World Exploration Map by Erstwhile – $224.98 ($275)
Details the successful, and the not so successful voyages of explorers both over land and sea. At 51″x 38.5″ it’s big enough to fit that wall that otherwise would dwarf smaller items. Comes ready to hang. Not cheap, but something that can look right at home in whatever home you’re inhabiting as the years roll on. Sold by Huckberry.
Christopher Ward C5 Slimline Mechanical – $550
A throwback in shape, size, thickness, and movement. Super slim. 37mm diameter. A mechanical (not automatic, so you have to wind it at the crown to keep it going) movement. Swiss made. Available in either a white or blue face, with brown, black, and even navy blue leather strap. Don Draper would almost certainly approve.
BONUS: Nordstrom Partially Lined Linen Sportcoat – $345
This jacket seems to get a lot of things right. 100% linen and just partially lined, so should be good for the warm months ahead. A bold pattern, but done so in a subtle color scheme. Patch pockets help anchor it in the sportcoat/not-orphaned-suit jacket realm. And it sure appears that the buttons at the sleeves are non-functioning, so, that should make for easy tailoring. Plus, it’s Nordstrom. So the quality should be there, and like everything else they sell, it ships and returns free. Now… if it could just go on sale during the upcoming Anniversary Sale in July? Then we’d be in business.
