What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. That’s what these are for. Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and three style scenarios will be tackled in the next few days (going out, staying in, & staying in solo). Going for a sharp look here that leans simple instead of flashy. That way, your date will keep their eyes on you, & not your flair. Also, before you make those fancy restaurant reservations, maybe weigh the pros & cons of dinner out on Valentine’s.
The Suit: Suitsupply Super 110s Light Grey Napoli Fit – $399. You bet a suit. Why not? If you’re going out on Valentine’s Day, embrace it and don the suit. Perfect shade of grey for hitting the town (dark charcoal can look a little sever). And check out those buttons. Mother of Pearl (or what appears to be MoP) is a classy way to mix it up.
The Shirt: Nordstrom Trim Fit Check Dress Shirt in Pink Violet – $69.50. Again, if you’re going out on Valentine’s Day/Weekend, embrace it. Work a little pink or red into the wardrobe. Small lines to the pattern here, and that’ll drop the contrast, yet add some nice visual texture for a tie-less look.
The Coat: Vince Camuto Wool Blend Topcoat – $198.98 ($398). Now’s the time to leave the parka at home, and go with a topcoat. On sale, a great shade of camel, and that ticket pocket is terrific. Ships and returns free since it’s through Nordstrom.
The Watch: Seiko GMT Kinetic SUN041 – $161.52. Kinetic watches run off a quartz movement, but instead of a disposable battery, they’re powered by movement like an automatic. Think of it as a sort of cheaper alternative to Orient’s terrific automatic Polaris. Know that this Seiko is 43mm in diameter, so it could overwhelm some smaller wrists.
The Soundtrack for the drive (if you’re driving): Halsey “Badlands” – $9.00. Not so on-the-nose as say, Al Green. Much more subtle. It’s pop, but more slinky than clubby. “Haunting” is particularly sexy. A great night-drive record. Won’t put you or your date to sleep. Quite the opposite.
The Gloves: Polo RL Quilted Racing Gloves in Brown – $33.74 w/ FEB25 ($88). Somewhere between a thin dress glove and an over-insulated ski-hill monster. Great looking details. Code FEB25 is good for an extra 25% off, and they should also ship free w/ the code LOVE16.
The Belt: Suitsupply Brown Texture Belt – $59. Still a dress belt, but that texture plays well with the dressed down effect the boots and lack of tie gives off. Ships and returns free since it’s Suitsupply.
The Scarf: Club Monaco Windowpane Navy Wool Scarf – $69 ($98.50). A camel colored coat and a navy scarf look awesome together. Throw a little pattern in there, like a white windowpane, and you’ve nailed the contemporary dashing look. On sale but still pricey. Should drop further with future codes.
The Socks: Pantherella Over-the-Calf Dress Merino Socks – $19.95. Match your socks to your trousers. Not your shoes. And these are close enough. Made in the UK and above the calf means they should stay up all night.
The Boots: Rush by Gordon Rush Men’s Kane Chelsea in Dark Brown – $145ish. Perfect shape, well reviewed, and most sizes are on sale for under $150. Should be decent quality, but at the regular price of $178, you might want to jump up to Jack Erwin or something else of higher quality.
The Rosy Gift: Gorjana Small Bar Pendant Necklace – $60. If your date happens to be a lady, and you want to give her something shiny without going over the top, try a delicate piece of jewelry. If you’ve got a local, independent artisan shop nearby, take a stroll through there. Lots of cities have terrific enclaves of artists who make classic jewelry. (Think clean, small stuff. Not big and clunky.) If that’s not the case where you live, it’s hard to go wrong with the brand Gorjana. This Rose Gold small bar pendant necklace executes the delicate jewelry look perfectly. She can wear it on its own or layer it with some of her other favorite pieces. Ships and returns free through Nordstrom.
