Allen Edmonds Rogue Cap-Toe Derby – $385.00
Note: Allen Edmonds is running a bit of a Father’s Day sale right now, but sadly the Rogues aren’t included. They’re a brand new style though, and sometimes it can take a while before something brand new trickles down into sales and/or the 2nds shoebank website.
Subtle changes that are just different enough. That’s the Rogue.
Imagine a dark brown Strand. Great. Now, make the lacing an open/derby style to give it more casual appeal, keep the toe nice and rounded off so it’ll still look good dressed up, and expand the diameter of the perforations a bit without getting comical. Finish it off with an optional burnished chili leather, some wider flat laces, and you’ve got one of the newest additions to the Allen Edmonds Stable.
Built on the new 201 last. Available in black, walnut, or burnished chili.
There aren’t a ton of calfskin shoes that can pull duty next to a summer suit when it’s hot, and then with jeans once it cools down. But the Rogue is one of them. There’s a bit of a Boardwalk Empire look to these things. There’s something about them that calls back to an era when men always wore dress shoes, and often took more stylistic risks with their footwear. But spectator shoes they are not, and that’s good..
40% larger perforations. Noticeably larger. Eye catching. Not obnoxious.
Built on the new 201 last, the same one the single monk Warwick is built around, so know that if you’re a borderline wide foot you might want to try an E instead of a D. Four pairs of eyelets, which works well for bar-lacing, yet the Rogue still looks great with the more casual criss-cross method.
This is the kind of shoe you pack for a long weekend away, when you have multiple events/things to do, but you don’t want to pack a ton of shoes.
Versatility without the boredom that comes with over-sensibility.
Say you’re headed to an out of town wedding. Pack a pair of canvas sneakers in your bag for super-casual stuff, then wear these on the plane with some funky socks, cotton/linen pants and a white polo. For the rehersal dinner, swap out the polo for a button down and an unconstructed blazer. Shove some newspaper in them overnight to absorb some of the moisture. For the ceremony the next day, wear them with a light grey, airy wool suit, light blue shirt, and a pocket square. Feel free to dance too, since they’re pretty flexible out of the box. Throw on some chinos, another polo, and grab the blazer for breakfast the next morning. Done, and you only had to pack one extra pair (the sneakers) in your luggage.
