J. Crew Unconstructed Ludlow Sportcoat in Irish Linen – $248
Should be super lightweight, just like the Italian cotton blazer, only this time it’s in a cool grey shade of Baird McNutt linen. Lower patch pockets keep it casual. Side vents. Non functioning sleeve buttons. Gonna get a lot of work this summer. Plus, if you hold out for a 25% off $125+ code, it’ll drop into the high $100s.
Restoration Hardware “Vintage” Bluetooth Speaker – $149
That’s a ton of cash for a speaker, but it sure is spectacular looking. Modeled after a speaker from 1928. Cast iron base, steel grill, and linen speaker cover. Sound quality is good. Not amazing, and won’t impress an audiophile, but plenty fine to stream music or podcasts from your phone. The speaker itself does require an AC adapter to power it (so it’s not like many bluetooth speakers, where they can operate either plugged in, or hold a charge and go portable), but it’s not like you’re going to lug this thing around anyway. There’s some good weight to it. Even the “mini” version seen above, which is a solid 10.5″ tall. Not “mini” in the least.
UNIQLO Dry Striped Polos – $24.90
Especially in white. UNIQLO’s dry fabric is something else. Has a pique weave to it, but it’s super lightweight and strong. No smushy-grossness that is the pique golf-club polo. 72% cotton and 28% polyester blend is nice and breathable. Now, if they could only release a new batch of button down collar polos, we’d be set.
DSW Aston Grey “Tokyo” Saddle Shoe – $89.95
DSW’s Aston Grey brand makes one heck of a shoe for the money, and a single-color saddle (instead of having a contrasting mid-section) like these new “Tokyo” saddles is a great way to break out of the wingtip & cap toe rut. Here’s to hoping they make a few more suede options this year, since their suede single monks from last summer were terrific.
H&M “Modern Essentials by David Beckham” Linen Car Coat – $69.95
Doesn’t appear to be available yet in the United States. Sure, you stick David Beckham in just about any article of clothing and it’ll tend to look that much cooler, but the coat itself here has enormous potential. An unexpectedly dark shade of linen, the fact that it’s 100% linen (should be nice and lightweight for spring) and the flat out simplicity of the design is something else. Tabs at the cuffs. Covered placket. And that’s it. The price, at just seventy bucks, is also appreciated. More on the new Beckham line over here.
