GAPFAM = 40% off at Gap, no exclusions (exp 3/16)
Gotta hand it to GAP. They’ve been on a roll lately. A year or so ago they were mired in this weird territory between skinny-jeans-hipster-ville, and less-aggressive-gothistan. All right, maybe it wasn’t that bad, but GAP for a while there was all black & grey and super tight and… depressing. Not as of late. They’ve brightened up, loosened up (but not too much) and have more than a few pieces that feel, look, and most importantly, wear extremely well (they fit right, don’t feel flimsy, and aren’t too difficult to take care of).
GAP isn’t as bad as their big brother, Banana Republic, when it comes to excluding items from sales. But most of their sales do exclude something in their wheelhouse. Maybe it’s jeans (often), or khakis, or sometimes a code is good on full-price items but on-sale items are out. Not this time. GAPFAM gets you a flat 40% off across the board. Here’s a few items worth considering adding to your collection from, (yes Gosling), the Gap.
Twill Blazer – $53.97 ($89.95)
Hey now. There’s potential here. Smooth twill, the tail doesn’t look outrageously chopped (short for sure, but at least it covers some of the model’s rear end), it’s chambray lined (instead of poly), and the description says the sleeve buttons are “decorative”. GAP was putting functional sleeve buttons on their blazer sleeves for the longest time, making them a pain to tailor. Here’s to hoping that these are non-functional, and don’t have too much accent stitching around them. Efforting an in person with this one.
1969 Standard Taper Fit Jean in Resin Wash – $41.97 ($69.95)
Jeans are usually excluded from codes, so this is pretty much the best deal you’re gonna get on GAP’s “athletic fit” jean. More room in the thigh, and tapered at the ankle. Good if you’ve got somewhat larger, but not beastly thighs, yet want the tapered slim & trim look down near the ankle. Full review here. Ships free too since they’re $50 pre-code.
1969 Slim Fit, Straight Fit, or Standard Fit Jeans – $41.97 – $35.97
Pick your fit. GAP’s slim is a true slim, while their straight fit should work for most. Their Standard Fit is just like the Standard Taper except… (wait for it) it doesn’t aggressively taper below the knee. That’s good if you’ve got bigger calves to go with the larger thighs. The Slim fit comes in a more saturated looking “resin wash”, and costs ten bucks more at retail.
GAP “Clean”Chambray Button Down – $35.97 ($59.95)
Big fan of these things. Lightweight, doesn’t have the stiffness of a traditional chambray shirt, and it’s easy to wear with denim (it doesn’t look like you’re going for the Canadian Tuxedo look). Button down collar that has a nice crispness to it. Chest pocket. Trim through the sides and arms. Shown above is the “slate grey” in a medium on 5’10” / 185. Ships free since it was over $50 pre code.
Half Shawl Marled Sweater – $19.79 – $25.19 ($54.95)
Really wish they would have made these in their lambswool/nylon blend instead of all cotton, but it’s still nice all the same. Has a half-shawl/mechanic’s style neck. Available in a good shade of “off white” as well as navy. One of those sweaters to wear on an oddly cool to cold spring evening with a storm rolling in. Already on sale.
Gap Basic Leather Belts – $17.97 ($29.95)
Still the champ. Perfect for jeans or chinos. Have had the above pair for at least 5 years now.
Modern Oxford Checkered Shirt – $29.97 ($49.95)
GAP’s newish “modern oxfords” have a ton of fans. Some go as far as saying that they’re on par, if not superior to the UNIQLO OCBDs. Nice to see a wheelhouse blue-on-white small windowpane/tattersall getting applied here. Perfect for summer, or… now.
“Lived in” Slim or Straight Fit Khakis – $35.97 ($59.95)
One of their staples that exceeds the price. Great color selection in the slim, decent color selection in the straight. That “light blue” on the straight fit should be perfect for summer.
Gap + GQ En Noir Dopp Kit – $23.39 ($54.95)
Already on sale. Genuine leather and coated canvas combo. None more black.
Cotton/Nylon Mac Jacket – $76.80 ($128)
Perfect if you’re looking for a lightweight, easy to wear, simple piece of warmer weather outerwear. Barely lined in Chambray. Not insulated. Cotton/Nylon blend is water resistant, yet it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing a garbage bag. Also available in a standard khaki, and the light blue color at the very top of this post. Full review here.
Toggle Double-Stripe Shawl Cardigan – $58.80 ($98)
Available in either off-white or navy. All cotton with stripes around the waist. Rope toggles. Great for spending an evening in. Alone.
Nep Polo in Blue, Grey, or Navy – $20.97 ($34.95)
How big are patterns this year? SPECKLES are getting some run. Speckles. Kinda dig it. Retro without looking costumey. Something different without getting weird.
Stripe Webbing Belt – $11.97 ($19.95)
Instead of going full ‘murica with a red/white/blue scheme, they’ve toned it down with an off white, orange, and navy combo. Looks great. Super cheap.
NOTE: GAPFAM isn’t listed on GAP’s site, but it does appear to be working for both cardholders, as well as non-cardholders as of mid-day on 3/11/15. Word is this code expires 3/16, and should probably show up on their site tomorrow.
