Ratio/clothing Custom Made in the USA Shirts – $89 – $175
Consider this week five days of saying thank you. Without your readership, your emails, your terrific comments, and your willingness to spread the word, Dappered wouldn’t exist. The collection of good guys who frequent this corner of the internet is by far the greatest achievement of this website. And to say thank you, we’ve put together five, splurge-worthy giveaways that’ll hopefully express our gratitude. Welcome to Dappered’s Reader Appreciation Week. Good luck, and thanks a million.
Ratio has quite possibly conquered the web-based shirt company game. Not only are their terrific fabrics and made in the USA construction investment worthy, they put an immense amount of control in the hands of their customers. Details like the collar, cuffs, placket, pocket and back pleats are all under your control. For example…
The Details – They’re up to you
Say you want a light blue dress shirt, but not just any light blue dress shirt. You want a light blue dress shirt with:
- A semi-spread collar (perfect for going tieless)
- A seamless (aka french) placket
- Two-button mitered cuffs instead of the regular ol’ one button
- Side pleats in the back for a bit more ease of movement
- And… no chest pocket, just to keep it streamlined.
Ratio’s answer: Sure thing. No extra charge. You want pinpoint? Or twill? Maybe end-on-end?
All those details are under your control. Want to have the second button lowered a half-inch so you get the perfect amount of chest showing when you’re sans-tie? Or, maybe you want an extra bit of room in one cuff to accommodate a favorite wristwatch? Make a note in the “special instructions” field at checkout, and customer service will see what they can do.
Pretty damn nifty right? Now picture that kind of control when it comes to fit… because you have it.
The Fit – Incredibly precise, but not invasive
Ratio has narrowed down their sizing process to five variables, all of which you probably already know. If you know your suit/blazer jacket size and your normal off-the-rack dress shirt size (and better yet: where those off-the rack shirts don’t fit well), then you’re set. Yet at the same time, you avoid the error-prone minefield that is taking multiple measurements with a tape measure:
Say you happen to be, oh, I don’t know… a 15.5″ 32/33 in most dress shirts. But the sleeves are always just a touch too short and the neck a little too tight. You deal with it, but it’s not ideal. With ratio, it can be ideal.
Ratio allows you to dial in your shirts by a quarter inch in the neck (instead of the usual half-inch), and a half an inch at the sleeve (instead of the usual inch swing). They also ask for your chest size and shirt length, to get an idea of your overall torso shape. Slim fit or a more traditional fit is up to you.
Ratio = Whatever styling details you want + a more precise but not pain in the arse sizing system + made in the USA.
Their smarts + Your style = ratio/clothing being an all time favorite here on Dappered.
