Banana Republic 30% off code: BRGIFT | GAP 25% off Code: GAPFUN
Both BRGIFT and GAPFUN expire at 11:59pm ET tonight, 7/9/12.
Well hell GAP inc. You run a 20% off GAP and a 25% off BR sale most of the weekend, and now it’s 25% off and 30% off? Suppose that’s bound to happen when their brands are perpetually on sale.
Good news is, like the codes that were active on Friday, there’s few exclusions on these. Monogram suiting and the Gavin/Dawson/Emerson pants are the big exclusions at BR. But shoes are up for grabs. Denim bottoms are the big exclusion for GAP, but just about everything else is available. The % off is solid. Not mind blowing, but pretty good, especially since stock is decent on a few key items. For example:
.
BR Grey Italian Cotton Blazer – $157.50 ($225)

This is not the time to be wearing a brushed cotton, light-flannel-like blazer. Some of us are nursing seatbelt buckle burns on our fingers and forearms. But it’s that good and it warrants mention now. It’s a new arrival, will be perfect for fall, and there’s time to hold out for a better sale. Fabric is outstanding and soft. Most of the time I can’t get away with a 38R in the BR “tailored” fit line, but this one fit oddly well off the rack. Armholes are decently high and it moves well. Center vent, elbow patches that match, and does have a tab on the lapel but it’s subtle.
BR Tailored Grey Suit Jacket
& Pant – $374.50
($535)

Good news and bad news on this one. The good news is that BR just released this, so despite the influx of more expensive Mongoram suits that are almost always exempt from codes, it appears they’ll still be making their more basic line. Plus, they’re willing to throw on a detail like the ticket pocket seen here. The bad news… that guy needs to size down in his jacket. He’s swimming in it. At the very least the cuffs needed to be hemmed up. Looks like a Jos. A. Bank shot. Here’s to hoping the fabric is decent. Still pricey even at 30% off.
BR Luxe Touch Cotton Polos – $31.15 ($44.50)

Worth the thirty bucks. Ships free if you buy two as well. More on these at the pre-summer polo palooza. Just make sure you size down if you’re close to being inbetween a size. Consider sizing down even if you’re not.
BR Corbin Sunglasses – $54.60 ($78)

Halfway through summer and you lost your sunglasses already? Finding a pair that not only looks good, but doesn’t cost an arm and a leg is no easy task. These get it done. A bit on the larger/thicker side, so not the dressiest, but if you’re looking for a casual pair that still avoids the Oakley look, these will do.
BR Jarret Suede – $84.00 ($120)

Sonofa. Was $90 through Saturday. A six dollar different. Now $84. Was worth it at $90. Update on how they’re holding up coming later on this week. Full review here.
GAP Woven Collar Polo – $26.21 ($34.95)

Big fan of their rugby style “lightweight heather” polos. And these look awfully similar. But is that a stray button collar button? Don’t know what to think about that…
GAP Garment-Dyed Washed Cotton Blazer – $73.50 ($98)

This thing is either going to be a great, extremely relaxed sport coat, or an awkward pile of cloth. Got one on the way for review since they haven’t shown up in all brick and mortars yet
Again, Both BRGIFT and GAPFUN expire at 11:59pm ET tonight, 7/9/12.
Picked up one of those woven collar polos from Gap. Button is hidden under the collar. There’s a flap sewn into the collar that acts as the button hole.
For the sunglasses, which color would you recommend? I like all three, so I’m having trouble deciding which pair to pick.
I like the Sienna (shown up in the post) myself. Black can look a little too sporty, clear, while cool, seems too trendy. But those are just my own personal tastes.
I got the BR grey italian cotton blazer a few weeks back (for about $120) and its great fit (a teeny-tiny bit long in the sleeves) and the material feels and looks rich. My beef is that the elbow patches do make this a much more casual blazer, and im not sure I would have the opportunity to wear it all that often.
Its an iffy “buy” at best, unless you feel it really fits your style. Otherwise I would suggest that you save your money for something that is abit more versatile.
Hey Joe, do you think the BR Suedes could be pulled off with a suit? I’ve got an light grey INC suit that I’m wearing to a casual wedding in August and need to finish up the look – shirt, shoes, tie, etc… And if so, blue or brown?
I picked up the Gap lightweight heather polo in gray back in April, which does not have that stray button the woven collar polo has. The one I purchased is awesome and I find myself wearing it a lot more than I imagined.
Mr. Everyday Dollar
I got the light blue a few months ago….love the look and the fit. There are a lot of complaints about I on Gap’s website but I think that’s because they slimmed down all of their polos.
I bought the exact two BR Luxe Touch Polos shown here but I have to disagree on the sizing recommendation. Both of them shrunk significantly in the dryer (on low heat and in separate loads), so if anything you might want to go a little bigger if you are between sizes. If you air dry them it might work out better. I received plenty of compliments when I wore them though. Just an FYI.
Huh. I haven’t had that experience at all. Thanks for specifying the dryer settings. That’s a weird one. Mine didn’t shrink much at all.
That’s a good question. I think it could be done for sure, but maybe the soles will clash with the grey? Not sure…
Any type of shoe you would suggest instead? I don’t have anything nailed down yet but the suit….thinking a white shirt with a darkish tie though,,,,
No 42 Long on that BR blazer? I’m a little upset about that right now.
Despite saying that it won’t the 40% off wendsday sale code worked for me on the grey blazer posted above. Picked it up at 135.
How does it fit? Trim? loose? slim?
