Indochino Chinese New Year Suit Sale: 15% off with code DRAGON
Indochino continues to be a divisive brand. Just look at the comments here. Some were disappointed with their Indochino order. Some flat out hated it. But others in that same comments section were thrilled with their Indochino suit. Seems once a week someone sends a tweet to @dappered saying how happy they are with their Indochino.
Here’s the thought process some of us have when it comes to this sale and their Essential Navy two-piece:
Essential Navy w/ notch lapel & functioning sleeve buttons. $75 credit paid for extra tailoring at sides & pant waist.
Pre code price: $379 That’s kinda spendy when you consider a Hilfiger trim fit costs $240 on sale.
With the 15% off DRAGON code: $322.15 Better… but maybe I can live with the stronger shoulders on the Hilfiger.
Consider the $75 in re-tailoring charges Indochino covers: Hm. The Hilfiger will need tailoring.
Or in another way:
Indochino suit w/ more natural shoulders, customization for lapels, ticket pocket, waist tabs, etc. – $322.15
Hilfiger suit w/ stronger shoulders, no customizations available, and you pay for tailoring – $270 – $315
There’s one side. Know that you’re on the hook for return shipping charges to Indochino, and it can get spendy if you’re in the U.S. since it’s headed to Canada. Leave your take in the comments. Thanks to Adam Z. for the style tip. Click here for another torso shot of the navy suit. Head here for a full review of one of their essential suits.
Indochino is from Canada? Ah….now Steve Nash being their spokesman makes so much more sense….
I’ve got to get a new suit in the next few months. It’s either coming from here or BR. Going to BR today to see how they fit me.
I’ve been torn with Indochino simply because people have such differing experiences. A fellow here posted pics from his suit on the Threads. It looked terrible (I believe he is getting a remake). Then other people have perfect experiences. I’m not sure I’m into the effort and risk.
Also, they appear to have removed their “high armholes” option.
Per the high armholes, they removed that, and the natural shoulders as advanced options and now instead default to high armholes and minimal shoulder padding. The navy above is real new and the arm holes are high and the pads are minimal. Perfect for what I like.
Couldn’t agree more on the reading about differing experiences. So far so good (or, great) for me, but, man have they left some people disappointed/angry. You think fixing that has to be priority #1 for the Indochino guys.
Having discovered SuitSupply, I’ll never go back to Indochino… SuitSupply is definitely the real deal, with every size imaginable under the sun.
Spend the extra money and go with a JCrew Ludlow suit. The JCrew navy worsted wool is the best suit I own. I have an Indochino and it does not even compare. The JCrew construction and fabric is much better and the fit is perfect.
I have two suits from Inodchino. First one required a remake but I am satisfied overall, though, the no shoulder padded isnt the best option IMO. Second suit fit completely different and required some tailoring. Not completely happy, but I got a great deal on it at the time.
Not sure id spring for another given their costs these days. Id almost rather spend 700 on a custom suit by a local tailor if I were to go that route. Otherwise OTR and tailoring seems to be the cheapest option for many body types.
Joe, maybe it’s because your shoulders are up, but that jacket looks kind of short on you. Does the length of it cover your rear? I know some people prefer the trendier, shorter-length jackets.
FWIW, I have the Hilfiger suit in grey. Maybe I’m justifying my purchase (which was made before finding this site), but it works surprisingly well for me. In fact, if there’s any struggle, it’s not with the jacket.
The “trim” pants are a difficult fit on my big legs. Coupled with the flat front, they’re pretty tight when I sit down. I’ve considered going back to buy a new, larger pair of pants since they’re always on sale. Plus I haven’t had the jacket laundered more than a couple times so I doubt matching would be an issue if I did get the new pants.
Agreed!
I have one from them on the way for a review. Looking forward to seeing one in person…
Yeah, it’s the shoulders up thing. It’s dead square perfect in length for me. I’ve got a super long torso, so if I go more than an inch past my butt I look like I’ve got the stumpiest legs in the world, but, this one doesn’t look like a trendier, shorter length.
Every size? I don’t see any 34S or 36S here.
Every size imaginable under the sun? Then why can’t I pick my jacket and trouser sizes separately?
I can’t get behind any company that wants me to spend $500 to try to fit into a rough approximation of the trouser size that someone of my jacket size “should” wear.
I bought a few shirts and a charcoal suit from Indochino. The shirts needed a remake because of a problem with the collar and the suit needed tailor (shoulders were too wide). Indochino was on top of it and took care of the issues right away. I’m happy. I’m interested in a navy suit. Might jump on this sale. I may request a lower button stance since they default to a pretty high button stance.
I think Indochino (and all online MTM) is a terrific idea on paper, and their suits look absolutely beautiful on their website. I can’t emphasize that enough. I’m not sure if that’s photoshopping or the benefit of a comprehensive, in-person fitting – because the Indochino suits I’ve seen on “real people” look, for the most part, terrible. It’s a pretty wild contrast.
Seriously, every time I see an Indochino suit posted on a forum, it ends up in a remake. I’m not sure how this company can actually make money if they religiously get it wrong on their first try.
Somebody on Dappered threads this week posted a custom Indochino suit that quite frankly, looks awful. The arm holes are painfully low (even though they are supposed to default to high armholes), the fit is all over the place and the fabric seems to randomly bunch together on certain areas of the man’s body for no apparent reason. They got almost nothing right, the suit needs to be remade, and the customer isn’t happy. IMO it seems much easier to just buy something off-the-rack, because the Indochino suit fit no better than one from Macy’s and worse than one from say, H&M.
To summarize, until I see testimonials and pictures that suggest Indochino suits look & fit like they do on their website, I am not taking the leap of faith.
Joe, random question: how big are those standard notch lapels on Indochino suits? I’m surprised they don’t list it on the website (unless I’m missing something)
Lovin’ the look of the essential navy! That is the second suit I ordered from the day after Thanksgiving sale, and now I’m very excited for that one as well! Just received my first suit (Ultimate gray) from the day after Thanksgiving sale last week. I took it to the tailor yesterday, and told her all about how I got it and how much it costed me before I put it on. The second I walked out of the changing room, her eyes lit up and she said “Wow I can’t believe how well it fits!” Essentially the suit is perfect on me, she just has to lower the collar 1/2″ because there is a slight buckle in the back. Can’t wait to get it back tomorrow!
One thing that wasn’t mentioned Re: Hilfiger vs Indochino is that the Indochino is fully canvased and should not only drape better but last longer as well. Not to mention the material of my Indochino feels so much softer/nicer than anything I’ve felt at Macy’s.
I like the gloves. Where can I buy them?
Agreed here. I looked into SuitSupply (still think they make great quality for the price) but having wearing a 40 jacket and 30-31 waist doesn’t make the place my go to.
Looks like they’re sold out. They’re Ralph Lauren: https://dappered.com/2011/11/the-splurge-quilted-leather-moto-gloves/
This is as close as they get right now:

Cant wait!
I personally have had success with Indochino’s suits and I just ordered the 3-piece gray “essential” because I customized it to look more like Sean Connery’s suit in Goldfinger. If it wasn’t for the customizations, I would probably pick up a suit at some brick & mortar store during a sale for the price because I have a great tailor anyway. Just my $0.02
Also agree. Drop 6 sizing is fair rule of thumb if you’re not fully informed on fits, but doesn’t work for a lot of people. I’d rather get some suit separates from a Macy’s sale.
FYI – Essential Gray is NOT the same as the Ultimate Gray they used to sell. The Essential line is made from Super 100s while the Ultimate Gray was made from Super 120s
Thanks for the links!
Can’t wait. I’m holding off on all suit purchases until I confirm if I want to order from suitsupply. My only issue is that suits are in the 110s. Either way I’m done w indochino.
Totally agree SuitSupply is a whole lot better than Indochino. Albeit a little pricier. Also I don’t think that there is “every size under the sun”. As a matter of fact, I suggest getting in contact with customer service to find out if the arm length is right for you since they come with functioning button holes and they might not be for guys out there with long arms. Otherwise, great quality and beautiful suits.
These gloves from Allen Edmonds are amazing, and now only $39 for super soft leather and cashmere lining!

They have others that are more unique, like these calfskin and wool ones, also $39:

I’m not trying to be contrarian as I know your experience has been positive, but check out the pics of the OP here:

The armholes are crazy low. But your navy suit does look sharp. I agree that one would think consistency would be their #1 priority now.
To what detail can you customize with Suit Supply? I know the sizing is MTM, but what about button stance, lapel width and other nuances?
Which line? I only have experience with the Sienna line ($679)
Just ordered the J.Crew Thompson suit. I was debating between the J.Crew or Indochino, if the J.Crew doesn’t fit me correctly(hard for me to find the right OTR), I’ll probably give Indochino a shot!
Satisfied people don’t usual bother going online and posting about it. It’s the nature of the internet. I got Indochino for my wedding. 8 guys, all but one new customer, needed two remakes and a couple more alterations, but now 6 out of the 8 have gone back for a second suit and they were perfect right out of the box. I just bought 4 shirts from them in Nov.
2.5 inches. They also have an option for a narrower notch at 2″
This is 100% false. It is the exact same fabric. They just rebranded it. I live in Vancouver and know a guy that works there.
Suitsupply has a MTM program. This raises the price a couple hundred. Otherwise, for OTR, I think you can order just about any jacket size for a suit, but the pants will be a standard drop off of those.
While this may be true for the other Essential suits (charcoal and black are still advertised as Super 120s), the Essential Navy and Essential Gray suits are now listed on their website as Super 100s whereas they used to be listed as Super 120s when they were the Classic Navy and Ultimate Gray, respectively. My guess is that, since these two are probably their most popular suits, they ran out of the Super 120s fabric for them after they ran the day after Thanksgiving sale.
Either that, or they have some false advertising going on.
I’m one of those with horrible experience with indochino: I’ve ordered two suits from them, and both came with grotesque silhouettes.
Looking at the Indochino fit pictures on Styleforum, I would say that about 75% of the Indochino examples posted look bad.
The picture above looks very bad too: what’s with the shoulders? That’s one of the things Indochino simply cannot do – i have not seen an indochino suit with decent looking shoulders. The scarf obscures the more than likely collar gap – another problem Indochino is known for.
No collar gap here Poopy McPooperson: https://dappered.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Indochino-Navy-Torso-Full.jpg
