Evil little rodent. What a tease. Early Spring huh? Somebody want to let the God of Gobbler’s Knob know that it might take six more weeks just for the snow in the midwest to melt? Less than 12 hours after half the nation got slammed with one of the worst winter storms in recent memory, the top Groundhog on Groundhog Day is claiming that Spring is right around the corner.
Let’s hope Phil is right. In the meantime, here’s some of the best late winter markdowns that’ll help you stay warm until whenever Mother Nature reluctantly allows Spring to show up.
.
The scarf: Rugby Wool Chalk Stripe / houndstooth Scarf – $52.49 (reg. $89.50)
Currently on sale with the extra 25% off discount applied once you dump it in your cart. Not inexpensive by any means, but, pretty sophisticated. Especially for Rugby. 100% lambswool. Chalk stripe on one side, houndstooth on the other. Once it starts to warm up, wear it with your leather gloves and favorite blazer as opposed to layering with another light jacket.
.
The coat: Black Rivet Long Peacoat – $119.97 (reg. $298)
Long enough to keep your upper legs warm (and easily cover a suit jacket or blazer) this one is a wool mix but a wool/nylon/cashmere mix is anything but a bad sign. Red quilted lining on the interior and button tab cuffs. A warning, the buttons aren’t smooth, but instead have an indiscriminate tonal texture detail to them. But for $120? That’s easy to live with (or have your tailor replace.) All sizes available. Was previously on sale for $200.
.
.The Other Coat: J. Crew FACTORY Wool Walking Coat – $79.99 (reg. $178)
For as goofy as the can get, you have to hand it to J. Crew. They took a plain as can be walking coat, and gave it just one extra detail (the sleeve cuff tabs) and it looks incredible. Well reviewed by an owner of the previous year’s model over here. Final sale though. So no returns.
.
The Weather-Proof Boots: Wolverine Gore-Tex Branson Hi – $165.99 (reg. $235)
You usually can’t find Gore-Tex and full grain leather for this low of a price. Red laces, quick lacing, lug sole. Not bad for an UrbanOutfitters.com find. (Also available for a bit more in a black ankle version.)
.
The Sweaters – J. Crew FACTORY Merino Wool V-Neck – $19.99 (reg. $49.50)
You can wear Merino wool just about any time you could wear a sweater. Twenty bucks is a tough to pass up price. Good size selection, but know that these are FINAL sale. So no returns or exchanges.
.
The Gloves: Nordstrom Lined Two-Tone Leather Gloves – $59.50
Huh. These are (obviously) different. If you wanted to have a pair of gloves that didn’t look like your standard triple top stitch leathers, you usually had to go with some kind of buckle at the cuff, or maybe even some contrast stitching. But this is way different than those options. They do have an interesting look to them.
.
The Hat: Lands’ End Canvas Reversible Merino Wool Beanie – $12.99 (reg. $29.50)
Say it with me. It’s two, two… two hat’s in one. (Thanks.) Reversible. So striped on one side, solid on the other. Available in Navy or Black, and about as exciting as your winter hat should get.
Here’s to hoping that when your alarm went off this morning, you didn’t hear Sonny and Cher. Again.
