The Perfect Trench for $140

Banana Republic Water Resistant Khaki Trench – $138.18 (reg. $225)

(Full Credit to Markus for finding the non card-member code... see the comments section)

A confluence of sale-tastic factors have led to a 40% price reduction on one of the best looking and fitting trench coats currently available.  It’s a limited time offer, and you’ve got to use it this weekend, but the Banana Republic Water Resistant Khaki Trench is now priced at just $138.  Shipping included.  This thing is tempting even at the full price of $225.  From the original feature on the coat:

Notice the Curve of the placket.
Notice the Curve of the placket.

…this updated classic trench from Banana Republic isn’t boxy at all.  It curves in nicely at the sides and you can even see how aggressive the angles are in the design of the front.

The drop length is shorter but precisely where all trench coats SHOULD end.  It has enough coverage for your suit jacket, but it’s much shorter than the all too common and awkward bathrobe length.

Will it go on sale?  Maybe.  But in person this thing looks terrific.  It’s one of those coats that makes you look 25% better than you should, no matter what you’re wearing.  So don’t expect a huge selection of sizes if you wait around for it to hit the clearance rack…

It’s not on clearance.  The price had been reduced to $165.  And if you use the Mad Men season preview weekend codes of BRSAVE25 or BRTHANKYOU it drops to $140 including shipping.  All sizes, even the extra smalls and extra larges are still available.  Tall sizes too.  Just make sure you don’t accidentally get a tall if you’re not.  Now sometimes you can’t double up with a code on top of a sale/reduction because of the fine print restrictions.  But this time you can.  Want proof?  Here it is:

...
Ta-da.

(Thanks again to Markus for the non card-member code…)

Hmmm BRTHANKYOU seems to work only for BR card holders but BRSAVE25 works fine for me. Strangely the sizes are defaulted under the “tall” tab…I accidentally put the tall medium in my cart and didn’t notice it until I was almost done checking out. This is a great deal, I would never have noticed this if it weren’t for your site. Thanks!

The code did not work. It apparently only works when you are paying with a Banana Republic credit card.

You can use BRFREE50 for free shipping too, only a few bucks, but every dollar counts!

Also, slightly annoyed by the sizing. I have a 38″ chest and 29.5 waist (normally I fit into a small), so I’m afraid to go with the small for fear the chest won’t fit, but I don’t want to be swimming in the midsection of the medium either. Guess I’ll have to take the medium to the tailor. Fair warning to everyone – check the size chart first.

Not sure if anyone is reading this half a year later but I was able to score this trench on clearance plus 40% off to a total of less than $108. I have to say this is one sexy trench. It fits like a glove. The belt is a little short for me (5’8″, 170lbs, size Small) but other than that, the coat is fitted in all the right parts and is not restrictive at all.
One important concern, though: I cannot comfortably fit a suit jacket under this trench. Should I return the small, which fits so perfectly with just a dress shirt and light sweater, for a medium that might be able to fit a blazer underneath?

@Glen: That’s a terrific price on that coat. Nice score. I wear mine without the belt most of the time and it looks just as good. As far as your concern, yes… I’d return the trench and get a medium. It’s still plenty fitted. I’m 5’9″ – 5’10” and around the same weight (165 – 170). The Medium is perfect.

Just picked this coat up. Marked down to $179 from $225 with an extra 50% discount applied. Paid $89 plus tax. Best. Deal. Ever.

Just saw that too. I… flinched because I paid $139. But y’know? I’ve enjoyed the hell out of that coat so far. And since I’m a medium, it would have been a shot in the dark if those sizes would held up… Awesome deal though.
