GETSHOPPING = 30% off + Free Shipping No Min (exp. 11/24)
UPDATE: Well, looks like we know what their Black Friday deal is gonna be. And this 30% off deal is pretty much it. You’ll need the code HOLIDAY though, and that doesn’t expire until Sunday 11/29.
J. Crew is coming for your money. Between this and J. Crew Factory’s current 50% off sale, it seems as though the J. Crew brands are trying to access our wallets before the Black Friday & Cyber Monday rush happens. In some ways, it’s a better deal than what they ran last year on Black Friday. Today’s sale has less exclusions on the regular priced stuff, and free shipping no minimum. Now, if you do have your eye on something in the sale section, it might be worth holding out for Friday or Cyber Monday, and cross your fingers for a 40% off sale items code. But for today, and today only, the getting seems to be pretty good. Could it get better this weekend? Who knows. But now’s not bad at all. Picks below.
Depending on your celebrations schedule, this might be cutting it a bit close for ordering, getting it to your tailor, and back in time for a holiday party. But the price sure is right. Kudos to the designers for adding the deep green “forrest” option this year. Single button and shawl collar.
Legacy Blazer in Ludlow or Crosby Fit – $271.60 ($388)
Super 130s extra fine merino wool and half lined in the back. Top stitching around the lapel and pockets (instead of the more dressy pick stitching or no extra stitching at all) helps it to look more like a sportcoat than an orphaned suit jacket. Size shown above is an unaltered Crosby 40R on 5’10” / 185. Full review here. Big thanks to John S. for the tip!
A bit pricey even with the 30% off, but it has a nice pattern to it, leather buttons, and a look that won’t appear out of place in, say, September or March (unlike a fair-isle pattern). Contrasting cuffs and hem are reminiscent of the long-sold-out boiled wool cardigan.
OR… if you’re good with a pull over, this appears to be basically the same sweater for a heck of a lot less. Seemingly the same pattern, also made of lambswool, but this one is just a standard pull-over shawl collar and comes with a patch pocket. Already on sale.
Goodyear welted and Horween CXL uppers. Their Ludlow line seems to be an upgrade, quality wise, over their Kenton collection.
Best in show from this year’s outerwear round up. Not cheap, but it’s impressive. 95% wool and 5% cashmere feels softer than having just that 5% thrown in there. Lined in Bemberg cupro which should breathe easier than a poly lining. Peak lapels are a nice touch, but do know that the button stance is a bit lower than most other coats. Meaning: there’s a bit more open space to that “V” that other topcoats, and you’ll need to wear a scarf on the coldest of days.
Old man winter has showed up in plenty of the Northern Hemisphere, and nothing feels quite as good on a bitter cold day than a flannel suit. Sizes are a bit scattered on the Ludlow fit. Crosby is only available in navy, while the Ludlow is available in the warm charcoal shown above, a navy, and a burgundy “dark raisin” for the risk takers.
A bit of a luxury, but could make for a nice gift for the traveler on your list. Double zip & slightly grained leather. Pulling a bit of luxury like this out and setting up shop in the hotel room bathroom might take some of the sting (or, numbing boredom) out of being on the road.
Not a bad price for a sweater that’s cut noticeably slimmer than most. Not as thin as UNIQLO’s either. Some colors are marked down more than others. If this is all you’re buying, it’s nice to have that free shipping available for today.
Good for the type who’s got a dead simple over or peacoat. One way to work some color/pattern into your getup (if you’re that type) is to look for accessories that jump out a bit. Classic pattern though, so while it’ll stand out, it won’t be too wild.
Cashmere Scarf in Dot – $82.60 ($118) or Plaid – $68.60 ($98)
Cashmere, ships free, and while a splurge for many of us… could make a great luxury gift for the style-centric guy on your list (even if that guy happens to be you). Big fan of the dark green plaid shown above, which conveniently, is cheaper than the dot option.
Partially unconstructed with a half lined back. Subtle herringbone pattern. Abraham Moon Mill wool/cotton fabric that moves pretty well. Patch pockets on the lower half with a welt at the chest. A total staple that should see a ton of work between now and late spring. Also available in navy. Shown above is an unaltered 40R on 5’10” / 185lbs. Sleeves run a touch long, but that’s an easy fix thanks to the non-functioning sleeve buttons. Not bad for just a bit over two bills.
Still pretty pricey, but it’s a beaut. Great for the guys who have a sense of style that leans more Hemingway and less Fashion Week. One of those items that you’ll wear a ton now, and also look forward to pulling out of cold-weather storage at the end of every summer.
Ludlow fit and partially lined. Rich camel color in a Moon Mills English wool. Should look great with jeans or cords.
English Wool Scarves – $41.65 ($59.50)
Colorful English Wool Scarves for the drab season. Not just English wool, but cut and made in the UK as well. The Free Shipping no Min. today really helps, and makes them a solid, quick and easy gift.
Where J. Crew’s “Sussex” quilted jacket gets it right, is with the fabric. Unlike most other quilted jackets that are all poly or nylon, there’s a bit of cotton mixed in here. That gives it a better texture and knocks some of the synthetic shine down. Dual vents in the rear help make it easy to move in.
Perfect sized wale and while it’s not all that constructed, the corduroy fabric keeps it looking more sharp than rumply. Sized in exact chest sizes, instead of the ball park S/M/L sizing. Full review of last year’s version here. Also available in that shade of brown on the right, but reviews say it’s not a close match to in real life.
Lambswool Cable Knit Hat – $27.65 ($39.50)
Another classic that thankfully ships free today. Lambswool instead of some sort of cheap acrylic. Perfect shade of ivory, and that cable knit won’t be going out of style anytime soon.
J. Crew’s 30% off code GETSHOPPING expires today, 11/24. As does the free shipping no min. offer. UPDATE: Again, looks like they’ve switched the code to HOLIDAY for 30% off, and 40% off sale styles. No free shipping though.
