FFBEST = 40% off at GAP, no Exclusions
They were playing Christmas songs. Christina Aguilera was letting us all know over the in-store loudspeaker how much she enjoys the Christmas season. Man, even Augustus Gloop still has to have a few pieces of Halloween candy left. But GAP is in full holiday mode. Tons of new knits and cold-weather stuff, and they’re trying to tempt us all with a pretty solid deal.
40% off. No exclusions. Jeans are in, as is the sale section. GQ collaborations too, if there’s anything left in your size.
Combine the deal and the surprisingly solid new arrivals, and it’s worth a look. If you head in-store, you can get 50% off up to 5 regularly priced items w/ FFBEST50 (the cashier will enter the code at the register). Many thanks to Brandon and Dave for the style tips!
Wool Blend Mac Coat – $88.80 ($148)
If this thing is as well executed as their dead simple cotton/nylon mac was, then GAP might just have themselves the sub $100 coat of the season. Didn’t see this in store during the scouting trip, but it looks all kinds of right online. Raglan sleeves, quilted lining, and a 60% Wool, 25% Polyester, 10% Rayon, 5% “Other” blend. Long enough to easily cover a suit jacket or blazer tail, yet still hits above the knee. Perfect.
1969 Black Fill Cords in Straight Fit – $35.97 ($59.95)
A little more room than their slim fit, but not baggy in the least. Some dudes with thunder thighs still might have an issue trying to get in these, but most should do just fine with the straight fit. Perfect shades for fall.
Gap + GQ The Hill-Side Cotton Tote – $29.39 ($69.95)
Just a tote, but a tote that’s about as down-to-earth as can be. And that’ll appeal to the guys who like simple stuff, and also sometimes need something to carry around extra junk in. It happens.
Dark Wash Jeans in Slim – $41.97 ($69.95) or Straight Fit – $35.97 ($59.95)
Not a bad time to pick up a pair of dark wash denim. It’s always odd to see slim-fit jeans cost MORE than straight fit. You’d think they’d cost less due to less materials. Or, at least the same. But, whatever. At least the 40% off works, since GAP usually excludes jeans from most of their promotions.
Wool/Leather Gloves – $23.97 ($39.95)
Not bad. Super sleek and simple, yet avoids being a boring ol’ isotoner. None more black. According to the description, the index fingers are equipped with touch-screen friendly fabric.
Shoulder Panel Thermal – $23.97 ($39.95)
The kind of thing you could maybe find at your local army/navy thrift store, but in an easy to wash cotton fabric and a decently trim fit. Size shown above is a Medium on 5’10” / 185lbs. Also available in black and “red spice”. Shoulder patches not just at the shoulders, but under the forearms as well.
Wool Blend Textured Rugby Crew Sweater – $35.97 ($59.95)
GAP has brought back their 55% wool / 45% nylon blend for a lot of their sweaters this year, and that’s a very good thing. The nylon takes just enough of the lambswool itch edge off, while the knit as a whole feels nice and durable. Big fan of the waffle-like knit they’ve got going on with these sweaters too. Casual, yet anything but giving up.
Blackwatch Button Down Shirt – $29.70 ($49.50)
Want. Should do terrific with jeans or trousers. Blackwatch without getting drunk-uncle wild. Would layer extremely well with a grey blazer (either lighter grey or charcoal) or under a v-neck sweater.
Speckled Lambswool Blend Crew – $32.97 ($54.95)
Another crew in that lambswool/nylon blend. Good for the guys that don’t want to go full fair-isle. Just some contrasting flecks added in there, nothing crazy. Also available in a light grey as well as a brighter blue. Size shown is a medium.
Wool Blend Herringbone Blazer – $70.80 ($118)
90% wool? Not bad. That’s a pretty high percen… wait a minute. Description says: “90% Wool, 9% Nylon, 2% Spandex.” That’s 101% people. THAT IS GAP GIVING MORE THAN 100%!!!!!! THEY HAVE CRACKED AN IMPENETRABLE MATHEMATICAL BARRIER! THEY DID IT! CONGRATULATIONS! SHUT DOWN THE LHC BECAUSE WE ARE DONE HERE. Anyway, tail could very well be chopped. Sleeves could be oddly long. That seems to be the case with GAP blazers.
Rugby Stripe Lambswool Blend Cable Cardigan – $58.80 ($98)
Great choice of colors, the stripes make it interesting, and the cable knit gives it great texture. Just medium and large left at post time. They’ve been selling out of this thing pretty quick once any stock gets in. Do note that it does NOT have any pockets. 55% wool / 45% nylon.
Gap + GQ The Hill-Side Selvedge Chambray Tie – $20.99 ($39.95)
The kinda tie you could wear to a workplace that leans heavily casual. Nice usage of the selvedge at the end of the tie.
Marled Shawlneck Cotton Blend Cardigan – $47.97 ($79.95)
This is an interesting one. Not sure if everyone is gonna dig it, but some might. Blend of 50% Cotton, 23% Nylon, 20% Wool, and 7% Alpaca Hair is a bit of an odd duck, but there’s good weight to it. Just know that since there’s Alpaca in there, it’s got some wispy/hairiness to it. Also, the marling/flecks that are in there are blues and yellows. Not earth tones. Remember funfetti? Sorta like that, but super subtle. Size shown above is a Medium.
Cashmere Colorblock Crew – $88.80 ($148)
One probably doesn’t think “cashmere” when they think of GAP. But, they say it’s 100% cashmere. Quality? Handfeel? Who knows. But, kinda digging that dark colorblock thing they’re doing with it.
Gap + GQ David Hart Reversible Balmacaan Coat – $77.99 ($180)
Not the quietest of colors, but it is reversible, and the flip side plaid might catch a few eyes. And speaking of, those pants must have caught more than a few retinas themselves, being that they sold out almost immediately and are nowhere to be found. Just Medium and XL+ for the jacket left.
The 40% off exclusion-free GAP code FFBEST expires on 11/8/15.
