Jack Spade Surplus Sale – Exp. 2/11
Big Hefty Disclaimer: No, this sale isn’t being written about because they bought advertising. That’s not the way it works here. There’s no “buy advertising, get a post!” shenanigans going on. Sure we leave some cash on the table by not doing that stuff, but it seems like bad business to do otherwise.
On to the sale.
The truth of the matter is, for those of us concerned about affordability, Jack Spade at full retail is over-priced. (And that sound you just heard was the check for the next ad-buy being torn to shreds). Their stuff, to many, is enormously attractive and certainly well-enough made. But asking $400 for a canvas/leather brief or $300 for a quartz watch to start? That’s just not going to happen. But their sales can be good. And this sale seems to have bottomed out the prices on some of their goods. You DO have to hand over your email and zip code (pretty sure you get put on their email list), and note that these goods are all final sale. Be careful. Good luck to ya.
Canvas & Leather Darrow Brief – $149 ($398)
The star of the sale. A nice blend of black canvas with black leather walks the line between dressed up and casual that so many places of work exist in.
Reed Leather Top Dopp – $69 FINAL ($198)
Great idea with the design. While most dopps have one East/West running zipper across the top, this thing lays all the way open to give you a better view of your Dopp’s contents. Made from textured Italian leather. Handle at the side. Waterproof lining.
Rancourt & Co. Barron Boat Shoes – $99 FINAL ($250)
‘MURICA! or… wow that’s really green. Full grain suede uppers, white deck soles, and made in Maine. Preppy for sure. Sizes are scattered.
Repp Stripe Enamel Cufflinks – $19 FINAL ($128)
Speaking of preppy. Was $128. … wait, what? Really?
Wesson Crosshatch Leather Davis Briefcase – $199 FINAL ($425)
All leather exterior with a bit of texture to it. Removable shoulder strap, but won’t ever be confused for a messenger. Has some sophistication to it for sure, but it’s not stuffy like hard-sided attach© cases can be.
Stillwell 38mm Watch in Black, Gold, or Cream Dial – $109 FINAL ($328)
Seems like the watch collection they introduced not that far back didn’t go over amazingly well. The prices were just… really high. But now, $109 for a Sapphire Crystal, Swiss Quartz watch? Not half-bad if you dig the design. Has some retro elements going on, especially in terms of the case size. Just 38mm. Red tipped second hand. Shades of Shinola.
Oxblood Reed Leather Money Clip – $19 FINAL ($68)
Great color on this one. It can be weirdly difficult to find a not too plain, but not super flashy money clip.
Dipped Industrial Canvas Brief – $89 FINAL ($198)
Not your average briefcase. Sorta a brief/tote hybrid with a dipped rubber base. Brown waxwear handles prove that once again, in some cases, brown and black go great together.
Norton 2-Eye 38mm Chronograph – $149 FINAL ($398)
From the sounds of the one review, this thing is a bit darker (all around) than it appears online. Dark gunmetal case, and the strap is darker as well? For those who like a smaller watch, but still appreciate a chronograph. Sapphire crystal & Swiss quartz movement.
Waxed Twill Wing Duffel ‘ $169 FINAL ($495)
A nicely sized duffel with 2581 cubic inches of space. Waxed canvas exterior. Removable shoulder strap. Metal feet. Minimalist.
Flint Nylon Davis Brief – $99 FINAL ($278)
Now nicely affordable, all while looking much more expensive. But the one review mentions that the corner blew out after minimal use.
The Surplus Sale (and ad buy!) runs through Wednesday February 11th.
