MrPorter.com Sale: June 2nd – July 1st
Mr. Porter doesn’t get a ton of coverage here because… well a lot of it is expensive, a little (lot?) odd, or both. But they do carry some pretty standard brands, and when their sales come around, they tend to mark stuff down by 30-50% off. And unlike sales on the particular sites for those particular brands… exclusions aren’t in play.
None of this is “cheap”, but relative to retail prices (or sales elsewhere) a few items needed some attention. Free shipping & free returns seems to still apply on these on-sale goods? Even if they’re 50% off? Off we go…
J. Crew Ludlow Navy Tuxedo Jacket & “Midnight Blue” Tux Trousers – $395 ($790)
These sure look like a match. Despite the conflict between “Navy” for the jacket and “Midnight Blue” for the trousers (in the descriptions) they’re both labeled as “blue” when it comes to the “colour” field. Half off for a Ludlow tux ain’t half bad. Note: The J. Crew Tuxedoes don’t have the traditional covered tux buttons, but instead use standard suit-style buttons. Still, not bad for a navy blue peak lapel tux.
UPDATE: They’re gone…
J. Crew Ludlow Linen Suit Jacket & Trousers – $230 ($460)
Good Grief. That sure appears to be the Irish Linen Suit seen over here, now down to J. Crew Factory-like price thanks to this sale. A nice size selection at post time for both the jacket and pants. No 40R at post time, but if you’re that size in the Ludlow and looking for a summer suit, at this price, in that size, they’ve got the stone-colored chino jacket in 40R and there’s a few good sizes left on the pants. (Update: these are moving real fast)
UPDATE: Also gone…
J. Crew Club Blazer – $225 ($450)
Half off their Italian Wool “club” blazer is great news for those who like the traditional brass-button look, and good enough news for those of us that don’t to reconsider. Patch pockets on this one keep it casual.
Gant Rugger Chambray Varsity Jacket – $137.50 ($275)
Could be great, could be… awfully weird. All cotton. Broken-stripe design on the ribbed collar, cuffs, and hem.
Billy Reid Long Sleeve Polo – $57.50 ($115)
Yeah, Billy Reid basics are pricey (even on sale), but they’re usually really well made, extremely comfortable, and the contrast placket there is a nice bit of design. Looks pretty decent under a blazer.
Dents Perforated Leather Driving gloves – $48.00 ($80)
Menacing, or over-the-top, or… both. Probably not something to stash in the jockey-box of the Prius (although, there’s a certain level of comedy in that).
Lanvin Rose Gold Plated Knot Cufflinks – $96 ($160)
Certainly still expensive, but maybe a gift for the Dad/Grad/Groom?
Private White V.C. Quilted Wool/Cashmere Bomber – $357.50 ($715)
Probably the last fall/winter casual jacket you’re gonna buy… and it better be if it’s north of $350. For those of us who are already looking forward to fall, this is an investment piece that you gotta stash as far away from hungry moths as possible. Made in England in a Prince of Wales check, super tough hardware, and a quilted lining.
Quoddy Wabanaki Crepe-Sole Plum Suede Chukkas – $195 ($325)
Cut from the finest Barney-pelt. Good grief, things got weird in a hurry. Time to wrap it up.
The Mr. Porter Sale runs through July 1st, and it appears that free shipping & free returns is still good on sale items.
