Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
Target: 40% off Men’s Shorts & Polos, 20% off Shoes & Watches
The Picks: Merona Oxford Cloth or Seersucker Club Shorts – $14.99 ($24.99)
Don’t tell Target, but even at full price (the horror) their oxford cloth shorts might be the best deal in shorts out there. Nice and soft, very flexible (doesn’t fight like a stiff chino), and inexpensive. Now, for this Father’s Day promo? They’re just flat out dirt cheap.
Nordstrom: Ramping up for the half-yearly?
- Ernest Alexander ‘Watson’ Brief – $177.49 ($355)
- Allen Edmonds McAllister Wingtip in Merlot – $273.75 ($365)
- Allen Edmonds ‘Carlyle’ in Walnut – $273.75 ($365)
- Allen Edmonds Park Ave. in Black – $273.75 ($365)
The half-yearly sale for men should be coming up in the not too distant future… and sometimes scouting the sale section pre big-event can yield some interesting finds. Will these drop further during the upcoming sale? No clue. Maybe. Maybe not. The bag is half off, made in the USA, and Earnest Alexander quality is terrific. It IS a bit on the small side (just 15.5″ wide), so if you lug around a lot every day, might want to look elsewhere. The McAllisters are made in their fantastic “Merlot” shade. Everything ships and returns free since it’s Nordstrom.
UPDATE: About those AEs… Check it out… 30% off select styles at Brooks Brothers (their “summer” collection) but that includes a few of their AE models. Hat tip to Daniel in the comments for pointing that out…
Amazon: 25% off select watches w/ FDAYWATCH
A well respected German brand with Miyota guts. Nothing unnecessary, synthetic sapphire crystal, and an exhibition caseback. Casual for sure, but casual with purpose. 42mm hits the sweet spot for plenty. It IS a little on the thicker (tall) side, so, know that. Type A is for those that like less clutter, type B for those that don’t mind a bit more mess on the dial. What, those things named after the personalities? A heads up about the event overall: not a lot of normal brands in this one.
Mr. Porter: Summer Sale Ongoing
The (new) Picks: Red Wing Work Chukkas – $150 ($250), Suede Derby – $144 ($240), Grenson Suede & Pebbled Leather Wingtips – $258 ($430)
The Mr. Porter sale is a moving target. Stuff sells out quick, then they restock with different items, and cut the price on others. It runs clear until July, so, be prepared to dip back in every so often if you’re on the hunt for something high end.
Last Call: Extra 40% off one item
The Picks: Elie Tahari Wool Blazer in Navy or Black – $135 ($225), Magnanni Suede Oxfords – $167.40 ($279)
No personal experience with this brand, but they’re just in to the Last Call site, look a bit like the J. Crew Club Blazer (with less showy buttons) or the Abboud ultra light. These might have a shot to be a workhorse in someone’s wardrobe. Button stance looks a touch high, and there’s not much in the description about the lining or sleeve buttons… but the patch pockets work, and while there is a higher button stance, the tail doesn’t look chopped.
BONUS: Orient: Father’s Day Two-Watch Sale w/ thanksdad
- Lexington Automatic Black Dial / Leather Band – $99.00 ($230)
- Symphony Automatic Rose Gold Tone / Leather Band – $105 ($244)
Interesting new sale strategy from Orient. Just two watches are up for this discount, but it’s a hefty one. With the ever present 30% off codes, the Lexinton would usually sit at $161, and the Symphony at $170.80. Both are automatics, and both have pretty classic designs. Liking the Symphony in Rose Gold in particular.
Also worth a mention
- H&M: 30% off $100+ w/ 2024, 25% off $75+ w/ 2013, 20% off $50+ w/ 2002
- Piperlime: Looks like they’re closing their men’s section. Markdowns are just so-so so far though, and it’s all final sale, so, no returns. Maybe they’ll mark down further in the days to come? Thanks to Jake D. for the tip.
- Macys: Their 25% off Friends & Family sale code FRIEND runs through Monday 6/9
- Lands’ End: 30% off Regular Priced items
- Amazon
: They’ve dropped the price on the grey Linen Tretorns to $56. In person review over here. Many thanks to Glenn C. for that tip…
- J. Crew: Another select items sale… 25% off select items with the code SUMMERTIME. Selections isn’t huge, but it’s all in one place, and the bowery oxford cloth gets the cut.
Re Nordy – went into retail location over the weekend. Was able to buy suit on sale.. Not sure if its the half yearly or not but fwiw 6.13 is the day I’m getting charged for it BC that’s when the sale starts.. Was also shown shoe list that was going on sale too.. Pretty extensive list.
I have the Orient Symphony with silver hour markers and case. I love it and am wearing it today on a Bond NATO. That rose gold one looks great, and that price is tempting!
Nice and Impressive Collection for all Men’s and the shoes are look pretty good.
How do those Target shorts fit in the waist? True to size?
Size down from your suit pants, in my experience, but pretty standard vanity sizing compared to most other casual brands.
What is the actual name of the Target shorts? I can’t find them on their site.
I disagree, actually – I generally wear a 32 in most vanity-sized items, and I had to get a 34 in these. I’d go by your actual waist measurement.
The Brand is Merona and besides the oxfords they also have another lightweight cotton called Fresno Blue. http://www.target.com/p/merona-men-s-flat-front-chino-shorts-fresco-blue/-/A-15092165#prodSlot=medium_1_6
I just bought a pair. As I have athletic thighs and stand 6’2″ I had to size up. My waist is usually a 36-38 but I bought the 40’s and will wear a belt. I doubt I will be wearing with a shirt tucked so the minimal bunching at the waist will be fine to have some more room downstairs.
“Merona® Men’s Chino Club Shorts” But make sure it’s the oxford cloth style (linked to those in the post above)
Do you remember what all shoes were listed?
I shake a fist at Target’s $50 free shipping minimum. No Target around me has more than one pair of shorts in stock.
Thanks, guys. The links aren’t working for me for some reason, so I had to browse the site manually.
In regards to the Tretorn Linen Flylites that dropped on Amazon. Anyone know the fit or sizing? Snug?
Dare I say you might both be right! I’ve found a marked discrepancy between same sized artciles in Target brand clothing. Not so bad in store since you get to try a few on, but it makes online ordering a bit of a crap shoot.
Apply for their RED card (the debit one linked to your bank account if you don’t want another credit card) and you’ll have free shipping with no minimum purchase and an extra 5% off all your purchases.
I think you might be right now that I think about it. Sizes do vary piece to piece, but I’d just never experienced it with the shorts. Good reminder though.
They’re tts for me
bing bong. Thanks buddy!
Second this. I’m 6’2″ with relatively normal size thighs and my normal size is fine around the waist, but close to skintight around the thighs. Had to size up as well.
I won’t buy anything online at Target because of this ^^. I have to try it on in store first to make sure it fits first. It’s not fun grabbing two of the same size sweater and one fits correctly and the other fits like something one to two sizes larger.
I went a size up in the waist for the Merona Chino shorts.
I don’t have that particular model, but I have 3 other pairs of tretorns, and they consistently run a half size large on my feet. FWIW.
That Lexington is a great looking watch! Wish i needed one. I’d totally pick it upon this sale.
Orient watches are an addiction. I just bought the Rose gold Symphony, which makes it my 8th Orient watch and my 23rd in total.
By far my favorite is FFD0F001W0, the “Vintage.” The textured pearl face with blue hands are just beautiful.
http://orientwatchusa.com/collections/mens-watches/classic/fd0f001w
FYI: I got the silver Symphony for around that price on amazon a few months back with one of their coupons for 20% off shoes and watches sold by amazon
Damn. That “Vintage” is a beautiful watch…
not specifically – sorry – there were allen edmonds and too boot – some off styles some very on.. again not sure if it was the half yearly or not..
Just realized that the site doesn’t ship to Canada. Amazon.ca pretty bad too. Guess I’ll just have to search elsewhere
got a bunch of the target mossimo slim polos!
No worries, was just curious if I should pull the trigger on the Park Avenues or wait for that big sale.
BB Strands, Park Avenues, and Fifth Avenues are down to $257 with the 30% off at Brooks Brothers.
Nordstrom retail near me was bagging purchases with “Half-Yearly Sale” bags as of yesterday evening, and I did note a bunch of mark-downs…I think they’re somewhat surreptitiously starting early.
The standard “Merona® Men’s Club Shorts” are pretty light and comfy as well. I’m 6’1″ with thick thighs and wear a 34 most often – I felt the shorts were true to size.
Best bet for most is to get to a storefront to try some on.
I wear a 36 waist and had to go 38 here. Too bad my local targets are al sold out of 38’s…
Nordstrom sale starts June 13th: http://shop.nordstrom.com/c/frequently-asked-questions#salesevent
