Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.
American Eagle: 40% off Everything & Free Shipping No Min. w/ 88915111

The Pick: Striped Knit Wool-Blend tie – $10.77 ($17.95) | Printed Short Sleeve Button Down – $23.97 ($39.95)
Hat tip to Juan C. who sent in the style tip about this sale, plus, he also mentioned that AE has started to move their logos on some of their shirts (like their slim fit OCBDS) down to the hem. Thus, when tucked in… you can’t see that logo. Doesn’t seem to be a visible logo on the short sleeved polka dot option above? If you’re going to venture into the short sleeve button down territory, keep that tail short, the body close, and the sleeves trim. Tie is 30% wool and 70% acrylic. Everything (except 3rd party merchandise) is 40% off and ships free, no minimum, with 88915111 through 4/2.
Cole Haan: 25% off bags and small leather goods w/ SPRING25

The Pick: Vessey Business Card Case – $43.50 ($58)
Just enough color without visually hyperventilating. Selection isn’t the best for this sale, but if you’re looking for a small pickup of some sort, the extra 25% off helps. Code expires 3/31.
Banana Republic: 40% off (normal exclusions apply) w/ BRSALE40

The Picks: Essential Belted Trench – $135.00 ($225), Garret Drviers in leather – $78.80 ($118),
Luxe Touch Polo – $26.70 ($44.50)
The 40% off runs in store through the 31st, but actually expires today, 3/28 online. And yes, as you’d expect, blazers/suit jackets are excluded both online and in store. As are those sneaky “BR Picks”, which are pretty much anything the BR web people want to slap a “BR PICKS” label on. They’re down to mediums and larges for their trench, but it’s an incredible coat for $135. April showers and what not, right? The color is a little darker in person and the exterior is 100% cotton but has a water repellent feel to it. Construction is outstanding. Interior detachable vest/lining is partially quilted / part wool. Full shot of the trench (could have tightened the belt a bit more in the back for a more fitted look) can be found right here. Code expires today, 3/28.
Express: 40% off everything

The Picks: Pinstripe Stretch Suit Jacket & Pant – $166.74 (vest is an extra $48) Fitted Chambray Collar Signature Polo – $29.94 ($49.90), Glen Plaid Cotton Blazer – $106.80 ($178)
Whoa. American Eagle and Express in one handful. Anywho, Express usually runs tiered codes. Not this time. 40% off everything, no code necessary, in store and online. And that drops their stretch cotton pinstripe jacket and pant combo to a very reasonable $167. Many thanks to Derric for sending in the style tip on that. Also, really, REALLY wish they’d kill the logos on their polos. Only a couple are available without, including this chambray collar polo. Haven’t seen this cotton glen plaid blazer in person, but it has potential as long as it’s not shiny or anything. Sale ends 4/1.
Huckberry: 30% off the Original Whiskey Ball

The Picks: The Original Whiskey Ball 2-Pack – $15.98 ($23.95). OR… Tovolo Sphere Ice Molds, set of 2 – $9.69 through Amazon ($19.99)
The ice melts slower, and thus, your drink stays cold without getting watered down. But you gotta have the molds to make these sphere’s of ice. Huckberry has a sale on the Original Whiskey Ball (or, balls in this case since they’re selling in pairs or four-packs). Meanwhile, you can pick up a cheaper version from Tovolo for under $10 through Amazon.
Also worth a mention: J. Crew Factory is doing 30% off everything w/ code MOREPLEASE, but prices are all over the place and suiting is back up close to their full retail price. Meanwhile, check your email… if you’ve got a J. Crew Factory store near you, they appear to be doing 50% off the entire store this weekend, but you might need a barcode on that email? J. Crew continues to run 25% off orders of $150+ with LOVEJCREW. The Brooks Brothers preferred customer event that provides 15% off most everything plus free shipping no minimum ends this Sunday. Sunglass Hut is taking an extra 33% off their sale items w/ code ss2013 (selection is pretty “mneh” though). GAP is 30% off w/ code GAPEGG.
Easter sales aren’t what they used to be. 🙁
Recently purchased the Tovolo ice molds from Amazon. Curious to see how well they work.
J. Crew factory 50% off & free shipping sounds pretty nice to me.
J. Crew Factory is having a 50% off in-store sale. Might be a nice time to pick up a warm weather Thompson suit.
the 50% off is only in-store
That shirt from AE is pretty sick…I rarely look at that store but maybe I should gander at them once in a while.
any idea how the AE slim fit ocbd fits? Their sizing charts seem to suggest that they run really large for a medium.
the chambray at American Eagle looks nice. Their athletic fits are usually very slim with very short tails.
free 2 day shipping at AE if you have shoprunner which usually gives free memberships if you are american express cardmember
I wore that suit from Express to every event last summer. When Fall came around, I picked up two spare pairs of the pants for < $30 each.
I’ve got the huckberry- works ok- don’t fill to the top and hard to crack open since the water likes to freeze around the seam. I’ve also read that distilled water makes the clearest ice. I’ve switched over to the giant cubes as a result
The Tovolo molds are excellent. Very well engineered. The top is rubber instead of plastic, which both allows the ball to expand as it freezes (there is a hole to let extra water escape) and makes for easier removal.
I can’t find a photo of Huckberry molds, but I’ve tried the standard Japanese molds (the same ones that MOMA used to and maybe still does sell). They’re fine but nothing compared to the Tovolo model.
Clear ice cubes are the holy grail of the cocktail geek. I don’t think distilled water will do it. It’s been ages since I read the endless discussion on the subject (personally, I don’t care about clear ice), but I think temperature ended up being the main factor in clarity. Google Alcademics for more info.
If you’re not set on spheres Amazon has Tovolo’s King Ice Tray for $7.75: http://www.amazon.com/Tovolo-KING-Cube-Trays-Blue/dp/B00395FHRO/ref=pd_sim_k_1/186-8518466-6124469

That’s no moon!
Anyone have any insight how the AE short sleeved shirt fits? I walk the line betwen Medium and Large.
I was in BR the other day and they had 30% off select (it looked like most of them) wovens AND select sale wovens. I don’t need the non-iron dress shirts for work, but a great deal on some of those. I grabbed some soft was micro gingham shirts they did for Holiday which look every bit Sping or year-round and they were $15 each. This was on Wednesday. They have double and triple rewards for cardholders this weekend too I think as they almost always do at the end of every month.
is there a coupon or anything you need to bring into the store
The J. Crew Factory in Grove City, PA doesn’t carry the suiting line – wish I would have known that before driving 2 hours to get there. Ended up with some slim fit shirts for $26 each, socks for $4 a pair and Bedford pants for $32 a pair. The store was mobbed for the 2 hours spent there – mostly waiting in line for a fitting room.
I actually went to an AE store to check out the fits after seeing this sale mentioned on Dappered.
They have Slim, Vintage, and Athletic Fit. Slim is the slimmest in the chest while Vintage and Athletic are slightly wider in the chest. Other than that, they are all about the same in the waist with maybe minor differences… at least to me.
I’m 165 lbs, 5’8(and a half!) with a 41″ chest and 33-34″ waist. I tried on a medium and the chest was perfect, but all three fits have a quite a bit of extra fabric in the waist for me. I then sized down to a small; Chest was a no-go (hulk smash), but the waist was perfect this time. Unless I want to spend another $25 for alterations, I’m pretty much SOL.
Sleeve width is cut pretty slim so that’s a plus. Sleeve length I personally prefer a small at my height, but medium isn’t too bad if I roll up them sleeves.
Fabric wise, they’re pretty thin. Don’t really expect much from AE and at this price point anyways.
Also, as mentioned by someone else, the AE short sleeved shirt posted above is definitely not polka dot and is a square with a circle in it. You can see the details by clicking on the zoomed in view on AE’s site.
I think I’ll be getting the medium chambray short sleeve shirt with white polka dots just to play with it.
Guys I called my store and told them I wanted to buy the clothes at the 50% off sale. The last picked out my clothes that I told her I wanted and said she could ship it to me if I needed her to. I’m going to be back by my store in the next week so I said I could just pick the items up in store. Just an FYI. The lady was really helpful and had no issue giving me the discount.
9076 takes another $25 off at Express. My groomsmen and I just got the pinstripe stretch suit for $151 after tax.
