The Suggestion: A “manly” tote.

May 31, 2012 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Here's why.

Will Leather Goods Classic Carry All – $55.00 ($95)

Since the dawn of time, man has tried to carry more than he can handle.  Not woman, MAN.  Remember Oregon trail?  Only a man would go out into the woods, shoot an enormous bear, and then realize he can only carry a small % of the meat back to the wagon.  Cripes.  All the risk, and the reward amounts to a bushel of squirrels.  And we’ve all lost a gallon of milk/sixer of beer when we tried to make it one trip instead of two in from the car after a grocery store run.

It’s not a sporadic need for many of us.  For plenty, it’s a daily thing.  Lots of us have jobs that require us to get more than a briefcase worth of gear from the car (or bike) up and into the place of work.  This is especially true for those who choose to reduce their monthly bill (and waistline) on eating lunch out at restaurants.

Look, you gotta get stuff from point A to point B.  And there’s just not a lot of bags that do that without looking too girly.  This one from Will Leather Goods is an exception.  It nails it, and it’s on sale as part of Huckberry’s current Summer-Kick Off.

Made in the USA, and while still not as cheap as that grocery store re-useable, it looks a million times better.  Count on its durability too.  Part of Huckberry’s current Summer Kick Off.  It’s final sale, so know that returns are a no-go.

Would you drop $55 on a tote?  Are you fine with your Trader Joe’s reusable?  Do you refuse to tote a tote?  If so, what do you use when you’ve got something that won’t fit in your briefcase/work bag?  Frame pack?  Leave it below.

Banana Republic has a nice looking tote for $56 (after 30% off):

IIRC, Everlane has a few totes for 30-35$..

What is Dappered take on you using a custom made (strap length, strap colors, pockets, etc) LL Bean Boat and Tote bag?

I have 2 of them, I use it for the farmers market, quick over night trips, the pool, etc.

    For those purposes, absolutely.

I wouldn’t take them to work though.

Everlane is also Made in America. Can’t comment on actual quality though (it’s important to remember that just because it’s made in the U.S., doesn’t mean it’s good).

Eh. Totes still remind me too much of a purse. I’d rather carry a duffel.

I’d be afraid people would think my name was “Will.”

I don’t see no problem with taking a Bean bag to work — it’s a no frills class-less utilitarian stuff hauler. I own several that see daily usage doing everything from laundry baskets, to grocery bags, to carrying tools to a project. And yes they go into work occasionally when I have that much stuff to carry. Other more “fashionable” totes look like you’re trying too hard and have a girly overtone: call a spade a spade if you just need something to schlep gear around and spend your hard earned money elsewhere.

The real question is: Will this tote carry more than 200 lbs. of buffalo meat? And the real, deep, burning question that I’ve had since I was 13: Why not just pull the wagon around to the dead bear? Or make two trips?

Not much to really say about totes. I’m not really a fan of that one in particular but I like the BR one posted earlier and really like the Jack Spade dipped ones. I have a similar one (in looks) to the Jack Spade ones that I got from Zara last year. Living in Florida, I keep it packed with my bathing suit, beach towel, some sun screen and whatever so I can toss it in the car and hit the beach. Thats about the only time I have a desire to carry a tote around.

I’ve got to agree with you here.  My wife is due in July and I’ve spent the last few days searching my options for a male “diaper bag”.  I looked at a few of these but I think I’m leaning toward some type of canvas messenger.

i have used this for a couple of years now to work. http://coolmaterial.com/gear/j-fold-waxed-tote-bag/ i get teased about it by some co worker but i really dont care. It holds a good amount of stuff and it can take a beating.

got it on sale for 50 bucks when Martin + Osa closed down.

Wrong.  Totes are not manly.  Why keep pushing them?
