The Sierra Trading Post Eliminator – Day 4

November 10, 2011 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

The Eliminator – Five from Sierra Trading Post

You can get more than outdoor gear at Sierra Trading Post.  A lot more. And they’re proving that they’re a well kept secret right here.  These five items are all competing to survive.  Each day we’ll eliminate an item until only one remains. Vote for the item that you’d LEAST like to own at the bottom of the page.  The item with the most votes gets ejected at the end of the day.  The item that remains at the end of this battle royal will be won by one of you.
.

ELIMINATED: Sebago Fairhaven Boots – $70.20icon ($135)

From a well loved brand with weekend good looks to spare.  Moc toe with contrast stitching, a contrast sole, and equipped with a wet traction outsole.  Sebago knows their way around docks as well as city side walks.  Rugged but not so rugged that it looks like you just got back from a backpacking trip.  Use code ALSNOW1 to get this price.

John Varvatos Star USA Subtle Plaid Sport Coat – $223.97icon ($495)

The subtle and shadow plaid thing ain’t going away, and for good reason.  While everyone else is in boxy fit boring solids, it’s good to have not just well fitting jackets, but something with a bit of depth and character in your arsenal.  Varvatos is one of the best at combining tradition with modern looks.  A 60% wool / 38% poly / 2% lycra blend.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Swiss Military Hanowa Chrono Pro – $181.97icon ($525)

It is a quartz, but made in Switzerland and looks incredible thanks to a white face, contrasting black sub-dials and black outer tach ring.  One of those watches that you’ll wear casually plenty, but can also use to dress down a suit and tie thanks to the sport influence.  41mm in diameter means it’s right in that not tiny but not gigantic wheelhouse.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

ELIMINATED: Marc New York Lambskin Motocross Jacket – $237.97icon ($595)

A lot of leather jackets take a turn for the worse once they add too many zippers, hardware, epaulets, etc…  This isn’t one of those.  Just one review on STP but it’s pretty glowing.  Lambskin and retails for almost $600.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

ELIMINATED: Barrington Leather Burke & Willis 15″ Briefcase – $279.97icon ($700)

Seven hundred bucks retail, marked down to $400, and according to a five star review made from “harness leather.”  Contrast stitching throughout and a “low-luster” patina so you wont blind anyone on your way into work.  Has a cleaned up but still sort of rugged look to it.  Not some stiff hard edged attache by any means.  Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.
.

Here comes the tough part.  Pick the item that you’d LEAST like to win and vote below to have it eliminated.  One item gets cut every day.  The item that’s left at the end of the week will be up for grabs and you’ll be able to enter to win on Friday.  Make your case for what needs to go and/or what should stay in the comments.  Voting closes at 11:59pm ET.

Day 4: Which Sierra Trading Post item should be ELIMINATED?

  • The Varvatos Sport Coat (57%, 469 Votes)
  • The Swiss Military Hanowa Watch (44%, 361 Votes)

Total Voters: 823

NOTE: If a size specific item (the boots, sport coat, or lambskin leather jacket) makes it to the end, the winner will be given the option of a Sierra Trading Post gift card equal to the STP price of the item if their size is not available.

It’s high time that sport coat got eliminated. Also, how do you enter into this to win the last item standing? Just by commenting here or do we need to email?

  2. Jason says

    November 10, 2011 at 5:39 AM

Yeah, the skinny lapels aren’t doing it for me, although I like the fabric pattern.

  3. Joe says

    Email entry tomorrow.

Keep the watch, keep the watch!

  5. Bsyris says

    November 10, 2011 at 6:24 AM

I’m afraid I have to vote for the sport coat again.  The watch is very nice!

  6. Beej says

    November 10, 2011 at 6:25 AM

    Get rid of that watch!

  7. Bennynojets says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:00 AM

Although I am not crazy about the material blend of the sport coat, I had to vote against the watch.  The sport coat is much more my style.

  8. Ben says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:01 AM

Comon guys, do you really not already own a nice watch?

I like the coat myself, and I’ve got a slim build so it’ll definitely work for me.

  9. David says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:13 AM

As much as I like that coat, I probably should have a nice watch for work at some point

  10. Ben Boskovich says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:16 AM

I can’t believe the watch made it this far. I don’t know that I’d buy a metal banded watch right now. Stick a leather band on that bad boy and it’s my top pick. Crazy that the Sebago boots went so early too.

  11. trash says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:27 AM

Blazer! I want a new watch.

  12. Richard Pacifico says

    watch has to go

  13. Jason says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:46 AM

No, not really… Just an “eh, okay” watch. I think that watch will look very nice on a brown leather band on my wrist.

  14. Luke Callahan says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:49 AM

I can see myself in everything here except the sport coat…So long to the sport coat!

  16. Jim Gooch says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:49 AM

Selfishly, I eliminate the coat.  That slot is filled in my closet.

  17. Garrett says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:11 AM

Eliminate the coat. Watch looks good and will look even better with a new strap.

  18. YackoYak says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:23 AM

    Ha! You must be trollin’

The stainless chronograph diver with a white face is one of the most classic and timeless watch designs out there.

As others have said, you can always change the band to a NATO strap if you like. I love my leather band watches and prefer non-metal bands when I’m wearing short sleeves. I can see how the SS band may be too much bling. But to me, there’s nothing like a metal band popping out from under a shirt cuff. A 41mm crown is a bit small on my wrist but IMO works great as a casual to casual-dress watch.

  19. Soleful Strut says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:23 AM

Eliminate the watch; though it is attractive.

Of course it all comes down to personal preference, but there are better options for a sport watch for that price – MSRP of $500 & only 100m water resistance?  For a “Military”, “Pro” watch?  Fail. (This [Perpetual!] Citizen has far more features for a similar price. http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-BL5250-02L-Eco-Drive-Perpetual-Chronograph/dp/B000EQS0WK/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1320937852&sr=8-10)

And as a dress watch it fails; too big, too many buttons & no leather band.

  20. Soleful Strut says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:27 AM

Perhaps, but a 100m water resistance does not a diver make.

Day 4 and again voting against the quartz. It has got to go!!!

  22. Gusto says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:47 AM

I just realized they have the sport coat in my size, 36S, which is tough to find. I vote the watch off. 😀

  23. BenR says

    November 10, 2011 at 8:55 AM

Voting the watch off, even though I know it’s futile. I have tons of watches.

Erm… I guess I have tons of sport coats too. Ugh, choices! Good thing the odds are so slim of actually winning. 🙂

  24. Matt E. says

    November 10, 2011 at 9:12 AM

$500 retail on a poly-blend sport coat? Strike it from the list!

  25. Tristan says

    November 10, 2011 at 9:31 AM

I don’t know why but I don’t see an option to click anything to vote. I vote off the watch. It’s a nice looking watch, but the blazer is more interesting and I think has more character. It just stands out more, and if you want to take a risk on a stylish jacket, all the better that you got it for free.

  26. Mark Thomas says

    November 10, 2011 at 9:46 AM

I like where this is headed.

  27. Luke Callahan says

    November 10, 2011 at 11:02 AM

Those boots are killer by the way…Pondering pulling the trigger on those right now..

  28. Pancho says

    November 10, 2011 at 11:16 AM

That’s exactly why the sport coat needs to stay. Pay $500 for it? No thanks. Possibility of getting it for free? Yes, please!

All good selections but Varvatos over the Moto jacket by a nod.

Had to vote to get rid of the coat. Love the watch, very classy nice looking time piece.

    Love the coat!

  32. Dave says

    November 10, 2011 at 12:18 PM

The watch is still the better item, in my opinion. There isn’t a single thing I find appealing about the Sport Coat.  I’m shocked it’s still here, to be honest.

  33. Butch_Z says

    November 10, 2011 at 12:19 PM

    60% wool – good; 40% synthetic – sketchy. Bye-bye sport coat.

  34. Sal Orlando says

    November 10, 2011 at 12:50 PM

    This didn’t go well.

  35. Anonymous says

    November 10, 2011 at 12:57 PM

My problem with the watch is that it’s quartz and $180, when one could get one of the Orient watches Dappered has been promoting for around $100.

  36. Matt Court says

    November 10, 2011 at 1:25 PM

It doesn’t have to be that one is bad and one is good. IMHO both items are very nice and I would be grateful to own either, I just happen to like the coat more.

  37. Phil H. says

    November 10, 2011 at 2:28 PM

Love them both, but right now I’d really like that coat!

  38. Csmith1521 says

Not feeling the materials of the coat.

  39. Eric K. says

    November 10, 2011 at 4:45 PM

Goodbye coat! The watch with a different band is the way to go!

  40. Jonathan Seabolt says

    November 10, 2011 at 5:15 PM

Would prefer the watch over that coat! A nice timepiece is the ultimate accent piece.

  41. Schmidty says

    November 10, 2011 at 5:24 PM

    The coat gets me.

  42. Rich says

That blazer is great. Watch has gotta go.

  43. JBM says

    November 10, 2011 at 6:23 PM

Exactly – metal watches were big in middle school, even I convinced my parents to get my a Fossil. But now? If you don’t race or scuba dive, metal watches are …

  44. Akosmowski says

    November 10, 2011 at 7:45 PM

I like the watch, esp. with a different band.

  45. Conrad Gross says

I say keep the watch! its a beaut and needs to stay live!

  46. John Gulich says

Varvatos Sport Coat bites the dust!  🙁  @jsg1818
