Opinions are like assholes. Everyone has one, and some stink more than others.
Thanks to all of you who make the comments section on Dappered a rare place of civility. There are very few websites with comments that read and feel like face to face conversations. Most websites are cursed with a comments section that more closely resembles the bathroom wall at an anger management clinic. So to the vast majority of you who treat the comments as if you were speaking to all of us in person, thank you.
That said, it seems like there’s been a slight uptick in comments that are either argumentative, or in some cases stunningly self centered. I’m not asking everyone to agree. That’s just dumb. Nor am I asking for a “if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say it at all” policy. That’s not good either (These? Just fine.) What I am asking for is reasonable perspective and tact.
Say John doesn’t like meatloaf. Now pretend he’s at a restaurant table with a bunch of friends who are eating meatloaf. If John blurts out that anyone who eats meatloaf has bad taste, he isn’t just being tactless, he’s being disrespectful. Of course John can say that he doesn’t care for meatloaf. But John would do right by himself to remember that his opinion on meatloaf isn’t a universally held fact. Also, if John were to ask the waiter to have meatloaf removed from the menu because he doesn’t like it, then John needs to have his head examined.
Bottom line fellas, 99.9% of the comments are terrific. And know that the small group of us who work on this site are honestly stunned and thankful for all of the support. Just want to make sure our comments section continues to be one of the best if not the best on the web.
And now if you’ll excuse me, I think I might just go enjoy some meatloaf. And… Meat Loaf.
