Macy’s One Day Sale Picks – April 15 – 16, 2011

As always, it’s incredibly tough to peg when Macy’s will launch a One Day Sale.  Sometimes a month and a half will go by between them, sometimes only a few weeks will pass.  One thing is certain: These are sales worth paying attention to.  The one-day sale prices are some of the best mark downs in the retail industry.  Here’s some of the best from the One-Day-Sale which runs Friday April 15 – Saturday April 16th.  Items marked with a * are “Web Busters.” In store prices may match up, and may not. Selection on all items (especially shoes) in store can vary greatly.
.

Bar III Suits – Light Grey – $224.99 ($495) | Navy Pindot – $224.99 ($495)
Notch lapel on the left, peak on the right.

The Hell is a “Bar III?”  It’s actually Macy’s new house brand.  Seems to lean even younger and slimmer than Alfani Red.  I haven’t seen one of these in person yet, but they look promising.  Here’s to hoping the arm holes are higher and the shoulder padding slimmer than the Alfani Red line.  Huge points for adding a pindot to their lineup.

.

Club Room Khaki Solid Slim Fit Suit Jacket & matching pant – $174.98 (reg. $350)
Not quite as low priced as it can get.

Was all the way up to $225 (no), previously bottomed out at $150 (yes), now inbetween at $175 (maybe).  Also available in seersucker. Both ship free since they’re over $99.  Full review here.

.

Michael Kors Blue Stripe Dress Shirt & Blue Check Dress Shirt – $22.90* (reg. $59.50)
Solid in construction, patterned in style.

You absolutely will need to get these tailored.  But once you do, they’re borderline bulletproof.

.

Converse Jack Purcell Garment Dyed – $45.99 (reg. $60.00)
Outgoing and more reserved.

Holy Orange.  They say that orange is one of the big colors this year.  Wearing a pair of JP’s in that shade isn’t a huge risk.  It’s as casual as a shoe can get after all.  Still too much for you?  The greys are darn near perfect.

.

Clarks Desert Kahn Lace-Up – $69.99 (reg. $95.00)
Let your ankles breathe.

For the types who are hooked on the classic desert boot but just can’t wear them in the spring and summer thanks to the heat.  Way casual and ready to be beat to sh*t.

.

Dockers D1 Slim Fit Soft Front – $29.99 (reg. $52.00)
Papa Smurf and Syracuse Orange.

Heads up.  More on the superiority of the D1 next week (watch for the slim fit pant palooza).  The first time I tried on the D1 I thought they were a little tight through the thigh.  Second go-round they felt much better.  Bold colors and a really nice trim fit means Dockers has grown up.  Big time.

.

Tommy Hilfiger Mac – $59.99 (reg. $195.00)
Really nice for the price.

SIZE DOWN.  That pic you see above?  That’s a small.  I’m 5’9″-10″ about 170.  The small was darn near perfect.  A really decent coat for this price.  Says 100% cotton, but feels like it would repel at least a minor rain shower.

.

Lucky Brand Jeans Lambswool Sweater – $36.99 (reg. $99.00)
Cue the foghorn.

Cold rainy seaside weekend wear for sure.  Not for everyone.  Lambswool & limited sizes.

.

Hugo Boss 3-Pack Stretch Trunk – $24.99 (reg. $34.00)
Everybody Wang Chung tonight.

Not a bad price for three trunks.  Solid brand with shorter legs than standard boxer briefs.

.

Tommy Hilfiger Sable Boat Shoes – $69.99 (reg. $85.00)
Keep the stripes, skip the laces.

Thanks to the stripes and a slimmer looking chassis, these aren’t your Dad’s boat shoes.

.

Bulova Analog and Digital Sport Watch – $99.00 (reg. $250)
Lots of options. Very little money.

Want a sport watch but not ready to jump feet first into a Casio G-Shock?  This one walks the line perfectly.  And the price is terrific.

.

Alfani Red Grey Sharkskin Suit Jacket – $134.99 ($450) & Pant – $65.00 (reg. $125)
Once again, under $200.

Death, Taxes (today is April 15th afterall) and the Alfani Red line of suits dipping under $200 on a One Day Sale.  The fit isn’t perfect by any means thanks to the lower arm holes, but they’re light years ahead of more traditional fit suits.
.

This current Macy’s One Day Sale ends Saturday 4/16.

Bar III is designed by The Style Blogger, Dan Trepanier. I’d love to hear a review, I’m expecting good stuff from him.

“Designed by” or “Styled by” for one shoot? http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_xY9sB9J14Cw/TUeF2TZGVRI/AAAAAAAAA-o/jhNhr8_98zU/s640/IMG_7724.JPG Looks like Macy’s invited a bunch of male/female style bloggers in, showed them the new collections, and let them do there thing from there: http://www.harpersbazaar.com/bazaar-blog/macys-bar-ii-launch-012811

I was under the impression that Dan Trepanier simply helped them with the styling for the launch. He featured a post about Bar III over on his site a few days back. From what I can tell, he didn’t have anything to do with the design of the actual line, but instead helped with a photoshoot and was attended the brand’s opening party.

Line does look pretty impressive though.

Andrew is right, “the style blogger,” just styled some looks for them, he did not design bar III.

I go to Syracuse, so I’m extremely happy to see you called it Syracuse Orange

    Sweet.. Just dropped $850.

Prefer custom suits so we will see how these fit. I have a feeling about $400 worth will be getting returned, but hard to pass it up.

Don’t forget, returns to Brick and Mortar Macy’s are totally free. So with the free shipping and free returns, it’s not too risky (just the time invested to bringing them back if they don’t work out…)

I’ve got four pairs of the D1s. Excellent.

Joe, when you do the article on the slim pants, make sure to mention the Dockers SF (San Francisco) cut too. I like it better than the D1 cut because it’s tapered at the legs and roomier in the crotch area. The D1 just looks awkward IMO with its huge leg openings.

Just tried on the Navy pindot Bar III in store. Shoulder pads definitely smaller than Alfani Red, and arm holes seem a little higher as well. Overall cut was surprisingly slim and jacket laid really well. I imagine a brief trip to the tailors would have this thing looking fairly rockin in no time flat. Quite a bargain, though store price is almost $100 dollars more than online, so this should definitely be a web purchase.

Went for it. Bar III pindot on the way. We’ll see how it fits, and if it doesn’t work out can always return it to the Macys in town. Can’t lose. Especially for $200

The Totes gentleman’s Umbrella has gone down in price to $12.99: http://www1.macys.com/catalog/product/index.ognc?ID=383738&CategoryID=17246&LinkType=#fn=sp%3D1%26spc%3D571

Bar III looks nice, but I can’t wear suits that don’t come as separates. I always need a bigger pant size. Curse you, thunder thighs!

I tried on that tommy hilfiger mac, but then I found the Perry Ellis City Trench. Looks bada$$ is both black and off-white

Totally agree. I got two pair on clearance at Macy’s last month for $15 a piece and the leg openings were just way too big. Got my tailor to taper them for $15 a pop again and now I have my two favorite pairs of pants for $30

  17. Andrew Wong says

The well regarded Tommy Hilfiger trim fit suit (includes tux!) is on sale for $149.99 and $74.99 for the pants.

just picked up the Orange pants. Also 75% off of most ties so I picked up a nice knit tie for like $7.

My mistake. Wasn’t my intention to mislead anyone at all!
