Indochino’s New Line and Look

Indochino’s New Line – Launch Date: Feb. 15, 2011

Heavier fabrics, weightier pricing.  Those are the cliff’s notes for Indochino’s just launched new line of suiting.  Five new suits and they’re all $400 and up (okay, one’s $399).  But any sort of concern over the perceived the price increases probably isn’t warranted, being that Indochino still offers their essentials line which hits around the mid $300s.  If you’re wondering where their terrific ultimate gray suit went?  Word from the Indochino guys is that it’s being restocked and should be back within a week or so.

What follows is a totally subjective ranking of the new line, with the (again, subjective) most desirable first:

1. The Diplomat Suit – $499.00

Nice check.

Expensive, yes.  But what you get is a reportedly heavier wool tweed, and an extremely deep pattern.  A dark blue Prince of Wales plaid like that is rare in a suit for $500 or under.  Indochino loves to ratchet their model’s, um “detailing” up to extremes (A collar pin?  Really?  On a scale of 1-10, that’s an 11.) but consider a toned down notch lapel on this suit, a plain white shirt, and a black tie.  Let the pattern do the work.  It looks awfully good.
.

2. The Decision-Maker – $399.00

Not navy, but blue.

A few clicks lighter than their navy option.  Tweed, medium heavy fabric, looks perfect for this time of year and like it’d be a nightmare in June.  Model appears to be showing the advanced options: functional buttons and ticket pocket.
.

3. The Analyst Suit – $449.00

Stripes. No Tommy Gun necessary.

So you want to do stripes but you’re afraid you’ll end up looking like Al Capone.  The key is to have your stripes thin (not thicker chalk stripes), and in a shade that’s somewhat close to the tone of the background fabric.  The analyst nails that look.  It’s not 100% wool, but instead around 97% wool and 3% silk, which is a great touch.  No polyester in this one.  I asked, they answered immediately.  No poly.  None.
.

4.  The Associate 3-Piece – $499.00

Hard to be missed in this one.

Holy Glen Plaid.  In its most traditional form.  Grey.  More contrast than the blue diplomat at #2.  KIND OF LOUD.  Not for beginners.  And most would be best to wait for the Ultimate Gray to return.
.

5. The Chairman 3-Piece – $499.00

Wall Street III ready.

Gordon? Gekko? Is that you?
.

Your thoughts on the new line?  Are the “names” of the suits a plus or minus?  And if you could pick one to wear, which would be your choice?  Leave it all in the comments section below…
