Code expires November 14, 2010
Express can lean young. It’s geared more towards the early to mid 20’s crowd who are still experimenting with their own personal style. Hence the bright colors and risky bold patterns. But even if you’re well past that age, you can still score some pretty good basics that are affordable and well fitting.
Express is one of those retailers where you don’t need their in-store credit card. Get on their mailing list and they’ll send you coupon cards once a month. Don’t like mailing lists? That’s just fine. Often times they’ll open up promo and/or coupon codes to everyone that’s ordering through Express.com. And that’s precisely what’s happening through the weekend with the code 8559. Achieve one of four levels of spending and see a new discount. $15 off $60, $30 off $120, and so on. Sweaters and Outerwear are already on sale at 30% off, and you can double up with the code. Here’s some suggestions on how to effectively use it:
.
The Hell? When did Express start selling the Italian version of Converse All Stars? These were featured in GQ some where around a year or so ago. They don’t have a rubber toe cap like Chuck’s, Jack Purcell’s, or PF Flyers, but they’re a nice casual and simple sneaker that doesn’t look like you’re headed to the skate park. Try white for warmer weather (or even now if you dare) and charcoal for the fall and winter.
.
Retail for one of these is $59.90. Now, with all the coupons, sales, and codes, it’s rare to pay full retail, but Express has marked down all their sweaters by 30% off for the time being. Add on the coupon code and the price gets pretty nifty if you’re buying three to stock up. Three Italian Merino wool sweaters for under $100? Not a bad deal. Plus the V-necks did quite well in the best affordable v-necks showdown. One suggestion: The camel color is a good addition to your usual blacks and greys. Just wear a shirt of some kind underneath, or you risk looking a little too concerned with lady-killin’. For example the model in the pic. Don’t do that.
.
Marked down to just under $200 and only $15 more than the $45 off coupon threshold, if you need a dressed up coat for fall or winter on the cheap, consider either of these. Not 100% wool, but at $150? That’s not to be expected.

1. Wool Mix Peacoat – $159.60 (reg. $228)
2. Grid Scarf – $39.90
3. Merino wool svest – $34.93
4. Houndstooth dress socks – $9.50
Total AFTER code – $183.93 (pre code: $243.93)
The peacoat could be a little longer but it’s simple as can be. The grid scarf has just enough color and pattern to break up your toned down winter gear. The Merino Wool Svest is slim enough for layering (wearing one now) and perfect for keeping your button ups streamlined and torso fitting. The socks? Kinda cool. But mainly used to push the total to barely over $240.
