Express November Five Days to Save Sale: Use code 8559
Code expires November 14, 2010
Express can lean young. It’s geared more towards the early to mid 20’s crowd who are still experimenting with their own personal style. Hence the bright colors and risky bold patterns. But even if you’re well past that age, you can still score some pretty good basics that are affordable and well fitting.
Express is one of those retailers where you don’t need their in-store credit card. Get on their mailing list and they’ll send you coupon cards once a month. Don’t like mailing lists? That’s just fine. Often times they’ll open up promo and/or coupon codes to everyone that’s ordering through Express.com. And that’s precisely what’s happening through the weekend with the code 8559. Achieve one of four levels of spending and see a new discount. $15 off $60, $30 off $120, and so on. Sweaters and Outerwear are already on sale at 30% off, and you can double up with the code. Here’s some suggestions on how to effectively use it:
.
$15 off $60: Superga 2750 Canvas Sneaker – $50.00 (reg. $65)

The Hell? When did Express start selling the Italian version of Converse All Stars? These were featured in GQ some where around a year or so ago. They don’t have a rubber toe cap like Chuck’s, Jack Purcell’s, or PF Flyers, but they’re a nice casual and simple sneaker that doesn’t look like you’re headed to the skate park. Try white for warmer weather (or even now if you dare) and charcoal for the fall and winter.
.
$30 off $120: Two Italian Wool V-Necks & one Italian Wool Crewneck – $95.97 (reg. $180)

Retail for one of these is $59.90. Now, with all the coupons, sales, and codes, it’s rare to pay full retail, but Express has marked down all their sweaters by 30% off for the time being. Add on the coupon code and the price gets pretty nifty if you’re buying three to stock up. Three Italian Merino wool sweaters for under $100? Not a bad deal. Plus the V-necks did quite well in the best affordable v-necks showdown. One suggestion: The camel color is a good addition to your usual blacks and greys. Just wear a shirt of some kind underneath, or you risk looking a little too concerned with lady-killin’. For example the model in the pic. Don’t do that.
.
$45 off $180: Express Wool Mix Topcoats – $149.60 for black, grey, or camel (reg. $278)

Marked down to just under $200 and only $15 more than the $45 off coupon threshold, if you need a dressed up coat for fall or winter on the cheap, consider either of these. Not 100% wool, but at $150? That’s not to be expected.
.
$60 off $240: A coat, sweater vest, scarf, and a pair of socks – $183.93 (reg. $244)

1. Wool Mix Peacoat – $159.60 (reg. $228)
2. Grid Scarf – $39.90
3. Merino wool svest – $34.93
4. Houndstooth dress socks – $9.50
Total AFTER code – $183.93 (pre code: $243.93)
The peacoat could be a little longer but it’s simple as can be. The grid scarf has just enough color and pattern to break up your toned down winter gear. The Merino Wool Svest is slim enough for layering (wearing one now) and perfect for keeping your button ups streamlined and torso fitting. The socks? Kinda cool. But mainly used to push the total to barely over $240.
The Express Five Days to Save sale ends 11/14 at 11:59 ET. Don’t forget to use the code 8559 to see the discount. Thanks to Andrew for requesting some picks…
In case you’ve never tried on one of those Topcoats from Express, that picture is crap. You’d have to be about 6 feet tall for the bottom to hit at the knee and about 6’5″ for it to hit mid to lower thigh. Just sayin’.
I agree w/ Frank. Express top coats run long. Luckily for me I’m about 6’3 so the Express coat fits perfect. I picked one up last year in black. Cant recall if mine is 100% wool or not but it has a tailored fit (doubt I could wear a blazer under it) and the texture of the material is super smooth. The ladies love it! Also of note the sleeves are long. I wear about a 46L in suit jackets/blazers etc, and the Express XL coats, unlike most retailers’ jackets, have the sleeve length I need. Just a FYI.
@LKG Thanks for that comment, I think it just helped me to pull the trigger on that overcoat. I dont see many comments of guys my height that also wear the same suit size and am apprehensive to purchase online because of it.
I understand this websites appreciation of the “looks” and “style” Express still tries to push, but as someone who has shopped that store since the days when they were known as Structure, I have seen an ever increasing decline in the quality of their manufacturing.
There is good reason why they seemingly have coupons every other week. It’s becoming ridiculous to consider spending full price on their product anymore.
@sartorial: Actually, I wouldn’t say we/I/Dappered completely appreciate the looks and style they push. 70% of it is too bright, too over the top, and tries too hard. I also remember Express as structure. They leaned more adult back then. And I agree that the quality has slipped. But there are some pieces that Express makes now (the 1mx, their merino sweaters, even a suit here and there…) that in our/my/Dappered’s opinion that are worth it at a discounted level. Thus, the mention of the sale 🙂 Guaranteed though you’ll never see this website pushing something like this.
@Joe,
I appreciate your feedback. And I have been following your blog for sometime. I’m not angered or anything by your posts for Express (disappointed in them as a brand), because this site balances styles and trends from various sources. I do have a number of shirts from Express, and some pants, but its been too many misses and not enough hits by them IMO.
What I like about your site is it never tries to peg 1 particular look. Mens wear today if a field of polar opposites. It’s either to trendy/trying to hard or its stodgy and tailored for 300lb executives.
I enjoy how you try to present a wide spectrum of ideas so that your readers can find that happy medium which best suits them.
@ sartorial and Joe. Your (collectively) comments re: Structure are pretty interesting, because I actually think the exact opposite. I was a fan of Structure back in the mid 90s when I guess it was a preppier brand. I ceased buying Structure clothing because a number of items I purchased literally fell apart after a few moderate uses. Also thought the proportions of some of the polos and rugby shirts were really off. I can’t speak much on the quality of Express Mens now, as I limit myself to just its coats and sweaters, which “knock on wood”, have held up nicely. But I agree, with all the coupons and sales they run, fool to buy anything full price there.
@ Brice. Hope your purchase works out well for you. If you get a chance to post let me know how it worked out.
