The Perfect Black Corduroy Blazer. For $70.

Tweed might be the runaway preferred fabric for Fall 2010, but corduroy is making a strong comeback as well.  And while a well tailored tweed jacket certainly does mix a been-around-forever fabric with a modern shape, it’s not quite as versatile as a black corduroy blazer.  Specifically, this one.

The INC Slim Fit Cord Blazer first appeared in an ad within the pages of this year’s GQ fall style issue.  But anyone who saw that jacket (it was advertised as part of a suit) and went to Macys.com to find it, was sorely disappointed.  Because it wasn’t there.  And after a month of off and on checking back, a lot of us just plain gave up.

Enter Sabir Peele, Esquire Best Dressed Real Man 2010 Finalist, Esquire.com fan favorite, and Style Examiner for the city of Philadelphia.  He sends in a style tip, a quick click over to Macys and yep… there it is.

He just bought it and I recently tried it on.  This thing is outstanding.  The wale on the corduroy is nice and thin (no 70s plush looking stuff), there’s minimal shoulder padding, and the lapels are a perfect width.

The jacket has a great off the rack shape to it, and my 5’10” 165lb frame fit a medium so well that tailoring would be unnecessary.  It’s that well tapered at the sides.  Plus, unlike many INC blazers, this one has some decent buttons on it.  Wear it with almost anything.  Points to Sabir for the herringbone pants.  And the price of this jacket?  Seventy bucks.  Right on target for those of us who can’t drop $300 on a blazer.
