DKNY Cotton Herringbone Blazer – $68.99 | Boss Orange Plaid Wool Blazer – $395.00
Solids are safe, patterns get noticed. With a blazer, make it a dark, tonal pattern and you’ll stand out quietly. The DKNY Cotton Herringbone Blazer is a new addition to the Macy’s lineup (haven’t seen it in person yet). The fact that it has slim lapels, comes in non inch-specific sizes like S, M, L, XL, and it’s cotton… are all evidence that this could be one of the best wear-it-with-jeans-or-chinos blazers of the season. Plus it’s on sale. Down from $100. And if you spend a little more, say over $100, use the code: 5BILLS to drop your shipping from a pricey $14.95 to just five bucks.
The Hugo Boss blazer? Not to sound all googly-eyed over a jacket, but that’s what you’d call perfect. And it better be at $400. Tonal Navy/Green plaid, an incredible looking slim fit, and wool construction. Completely out of range for most of us. But a great example piece to take a look at, and then attempt to find a similar model at a much cheaper price.
Take a cue from the Macy’s model below, and try a brighter colored v-neck with your dark blazers. Just swap out the lighter blue jeans for some dark ones, exchange the t-shirt for an Oxford, and keep your jacket buttoned when you’re standing. Not bad, and not boring.
.
“stand out quietly” I like that term.
plus both blazers are really good looking
I don’t think I could pull off the plaid one.
The DKNY one is a bit iffy for me. The picture at the top of this article looks great, but I don’t see that picture anywhere on Macy’s site. The model and his ensemble in the bottom picture (the real one on Macys.com) looks like a missing extra from Back To The Future or something.
@Bryan: It appears to be the same blazer. It was for sale on the DKNY website, but now it’s only available through Macy’s. Same retail price ($99.50) color description was the same: “Combo.” If it’s not at your local Macy’s to check out (isn’t at mine) you can always return it there for no extra cost. That’s always a service I’ve appreciated.
joe can you recommend an affordable tweed blazer?
How does the DKNY compare to the GAP blazer posted yesterday?
@stephen: Other than the $40 wool one I bought at Old Navy 5 years ago? Unfortunately they don’t seem to make that one anymore. If you’re talking under $100, I think the GAP one that Pete is talking about might be your best bet. I have yet to see it in person, but… I’ve never had a bad experience with a GAP blazer. There is some poly in it though, so be warned. It looks pretty darn good though. Otherwise, maybe this one from Urban Outfitters, but it looks so short in the tail…
@Pete: It doesn’t look like the DKNY is in Macy’s stores yet (there’s no “find it in store” button on Macys.com). But I’ve looked, and will continue to look for the DKNY and the Gap. Both seem to be rare. I guess the mass retailers missed the gigantic signs that tweed was gonna be large this year.
i got my harris tweed blazer for $4.50 at my local value village
That… is also a great point. Thrift stores can be full of tweed gems. But sometimes you have to do some digging. 90% of the time you’ll need some tailoring. 100% of the time you’ll need some dry cleaning…
ASOS Slim Fit Check Gray Blazer – $53.92 (was $134.80)
Free shipping (both ways) with new opening of US website.
@Kevin L: Nice… catch. That blazer is sweet. And at an Old Navy price.
If the blazer in your post is the same one I tried on in Macy’s the other day, then….that thing is horrible, and I’d say even calling it a blazer is a stretch. More like a vaguely blazer-shaped sweatshirt, at best
Seriously? DKNY? Damn. That’s… really disappointing.
