The Macy’s Hot List Sale – September 22nd – 27th
What’s the difference between a Macy’s Hot List Sale and one of their One Day Sales? It’s not totally clear, but it seems like while the One Day Sale has larger markdowns on a wider variety of items, the Hot List Sale concentrates on new arrivals and season specific pieces. Not bad if summer is lingering on in your neck of the woods and due to the warm weather you just haven’t done any fall shopping.
The sale runs through Monday the 27th. Here’s a few ideas to get you started:
.
Kenneth Cole Wool Walking Coat – $179.99 (reg. $295.00)

Not sure how I feel about this one. It looks great in the online pics (despite the lapels being a little higher than I’d personally like), but I have yet to see it in person. It’s a herringbone pattern that also comes in a charcoal if you’re not thrilled with the Espresso Brown shown. For under $200? Maybe worth the shipping risk?
.
Calvin Klein Neil Loafers – $99.99 (reg. $130)

Like neckties, it’s tough to find a simple loafer. These are… just a simple loafer. Venetian in style, Calvin Klein minimalist in design, since you already most likely have a pair of black loafers, maybe even more casual cognac pair could be a welcome addition to your closet floor..
.
Levi’s Red Tab Slim Fit Trucker Jacket – $59.99
(Reg. $68.00)

The super-dark jean jacket and chinos look is pretty close to can’t miss. But what if you wear jeans 90% of the time? The denim on denim look isn’t easy to pull off. Step 1 to avoiding the Canadian tux, is consider these pants from Banana Republic as an addition to your non-jeans lineup. Step 2, find a jean jacket that doesn’t require much of an investment so you can wear it only once in awhile guilt free. Hard to argue with a slim fit Levi’s with an under $60 price tag.
.
Levi’s 501 Original Fit – $39.99 (reg. $48) | Levi’s 514 Slim Straight – $34.99 (reg. $48)

Speaking of Levi’s, if you need a new pair of jeans… two favorites are on sale for under $40. The button fly can’t miss 501s are just under $40, while the slimmer, more dressed up 514s are under $35. Careful if you’ve got larger quads and hamstrings, the 514s might be a little too tight. For both, keep the wash dark. Tumbled rigid is a solid pick. Check out the denim wash spectrum and guide for more..
.
Bulova 96B137 off White Dial Chrono – $239.20 (reg. $299)

Off white dial watches are a nice way to transition into fall (and if you need a few more ideas, here’s the Fall Essentials Guide). This Bulova in particular grabs some details from an old clock, but still somehow keeps it modern. Not a bad addition to your watch case if you’re in the market.
The Macy’s Hot List Sale runs through Monday September 27th.
I like that watch, but unfortunately still a bit too expensive for me right now.
Will definitely go for some new 501s at that price. Watch is nice too.
On the topic of 514’s… I didn’t even think my legs were that big. I’m 6 feet tall, very lean, only 175 lbs and I couldn’t even get the 514’s up to my waist. If you have averaged sized quads/hams I’d say these are definitely out. I wear the 527’s in a 32×34 and they fit like a glove, amazing. Thanks for the tips on those btw!
@Dave: I’m a fan of the 527s as well (although I will forever catch flack for it here since they have a slight boot cut. Not a problem though, I dig em’) For the 514s, I’m wearing a pair right now. I’m 5’10”, 165-170. I can get em on, but, boy there’s not a ton of room. Not tight, but certainly fitted on me.
I’m a huge fan of the 514s. I’ve had a few pairs of the 527s in the past, I’m just not that into the boot cut so much anymore. I’m definitely considering that denim jacket; been wanting one for a while.
I would advise against getting Levi’s at a “sale” price of 35.00 when you can buy them at Kohl’s Dept. Store for that at max. I’ve seen them as low as 19.99, though usually $25 or $30. Either way, it’s a much better deal for the same jeans, and you don’t have to wait around for a sale.
@Kurt? 501s? For real? I gotta get to Kohls more then…
I like the 514s. I got a pair with a (very slight) stretch on the waistband and they’ve been great; I’ve worn them for 5 years now…and a 5-year-old pair of jeans can be the most comfortable thing in the world. I may get a new pair at that price; mine are pretty pale right now but they used to be about that color. I’ll probably head to Macy’s tonight or something…is the sale online only? I wouldn’t mind a button-fly pair either; been getting into that lately.
Levi’s has different lines, and the low cost “signature” line is sold at stores like walmart, target, possibly kohl’s at a discount. I’m not sure whether this makes a difference in cut, construction, etc…, but the more you know…
They may very well be all made together, with different tags put on them, who knows.
