Anybody else sick of the heat? Autumn is arguably the best time of year for dressing well, and a huge part of looking terrific during the fall is wearing the right outerwear.
Long coats, short jackets, casual, dress, or somewhere in-between, the right coat or jacket can make you feel nothing short of invincible. Now with that said, the following picks for fall outerwear might look great, but don’t go walking out into oncoming traffic in one.

Simplicity has a price. And this time it’s $250. The new Mac Jacket by Banana Republic is the top of the line alternative for a guy who doesn’t want the multitude of details that comes with owning a trench. It’s single breasted, has buckle cuffs that blend in, and the epaulets stand out just enough. The gray color will go with everything. Just one hesitation though… this part of the item’s description: “A traditional car coat silhouette,” Does that mean boxy? Even if it does, there’s always your tailor. Watch for a 40% off online sale (they have em’ every so often) and you could get it for as low as $150.

The J. Crew Cadet Jacket is surprisingly reasonable. $128? Not bad. Is it $50 for the Old Navy imitator? Not quite, but… hey if they’re charging $200 for a Timex, you’d think this would be more. As for the Woolrich… weird? Yes. Cool? Absolutely. Waterproof too.

INC has been on a bit of a roll lately and although I have yet to see this trench in person, it has potential. It’s much more casual than a standard double breasted jacket and certainly wouldn’t work with a suit. But jeans? Sure. Those super light pre-ripped and patched jeans that the model is wearing? Those should be burned. Immediately. Kill it with fire. As for the BR coat, I have tried that one on and it’s one of the best pieces the brand has right now. There are some complaints online about how the color is much darker in person. It is (see what it really looks like here), and that makes it better for the fall. Like the Mac, look for a sale.

Why pay for leather if something that’s not looks this good? Leather jackets can get real ugly real quick when they’re either over embellished or super loose fitting. This one looks to fit close to the body and also seems to have all the right details. Bonus points for the reinforced cap looking shoulders.
