UPDATE: Looks like the Macy’s pricing team and/or robots have gone rogue, as they’ve tanked the price on Bulova’s extremely popular Caravelle Sea Hunter automatic.
It was on sale direct through Bulova earlier this week for $281.25, with free shipping & returns, and even free bracelet re-sizing before it left the warehouse. And those are a lot of perks!
But $75 is a lot of money. Money > Perks. Almost always. Keep your stupid fame and your silly “rewards.” Money. Please.
Macy’s is technically selling them, but they ship direct from the vendor (so Bulova, yes?)… and while outbound shipping is free… not quite sure what returns would set you back (if anything). Also, no free resizing. And if past is prologue, then Macy’s isn’t exactly lickety-split -quick when it comes to refunds.
Bottom line: This thing is legit. 39mm doesn’t wear too small at all thanks to the 20mm bracelet, which doesn’t aggressively taper. Bezel feels (read: clicks/rotates) great. Styling is terrific. It’s a diver/sports watch, but it’s subdued enough that you could totally wear it with a suit. The bracelet’s quick release pins are extra nice, so swapping out the bracelet for a NATO or leather strap will be super easy. And while there’s no on-the-fly micro adjust, it does come with a half link on the bracelet, as well as 3 micro-adjust pin-holes in the clasp.

Eat your heart out, Omega Seamaster 300
Only drawback is how the thing feels at the crown. The movement is a 21-jewel Miyota automatic with ~42 hrs of power reserve, but it just doesn’t feel great as you operate it. Unscrewing and screwing down the crown reveals that the threads are kinda “mneh”… and not the easiest operating.
But bottom line: for $~$200ish?
That dog’ll hunt.
Or, more representational of the object in question… that aquatic mammal will dive?
Something like that.
Sale ends Sunday, 3/15. Although there could be a run on them at this almost half-off price.
That’s all.
Carry on.
P.S. If you picked one up during the Bulova sale, you may have it already in-hand, as the one we bought for review shipped with 2-day shipping. In terms of saving the $75 (assuming Macy’s doesn’t sell out ASAP,) you could petition for a price adjustment, or there’s always just sending it back with the free returns with Bulova. But again, Macy’s may sell out soon.

Next up in the trilogy: warming up a smart casual look.
The first of three style scenarios as we transition to warmer weather clothes.
Plus a restock (no sale) of a favorite USA assembled dive watch.
It's nice when a brand warns their customers in advance of raising their prices.
