What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. One of the many, many reasons fall is so worshiped as a season, is that things tend to slow down. There are more opportunities to relax, and enjoy your surroundings. So the next time the skies open up and the weather turns dreary, layer up with some favorite casual clothes, set aside your to-do list, and allow yourself to do… nothing. Nothing with purpose, but nothing all the same. And one way to make that “nothing” time feel great? Look decent while doing it. Get into something more attractive than old pajama pants and a jersey. You’ll be surprised how much better it’ll make you feel.
The Sweater: JCF Fishermans Cable Crew in Slim or Reg – $50 – $60ish. The only way this thing would be better is if they’d make a version in wool. All cotton, but not squishy, gooey stuff. Has a bit of texture to it. And that classic off-white + cable knit is dead square perfect for a wet, blustery afternoon. Here’s how a slim looks on 5’10” / 185.
The Jeans: GAP Original 1969 Straight Fit Jeans – $35.97 w/ GAPWOW ($59.95). Dark denim + the off white sweater = a nice bit of contrast. And now that GAP is doing their F&F sale, jeans which are usually excluded, are finally getting the cut.
The Watch: Timex Brass Case Chrono on Green Nylon Strap – $51.97. A longtime favorite that usually comes on a suede strap. But the green nylon strap adds a nice bit of color, for cheap.
The Tee: Declaration Clothing USA Made “Hope” Tee – $28. Super soft. Nicely fitted. Made in the USA. Has a great story behind the image (do not fire unless fired upon is a good way to conduct yourself in your own life). Spendy, but at least it ships free w/ FREESHIP.
The Belt: GAP Chino Roller Belt – $23.97 w/ GAPWOW ($39.95). Another item that is usually excluded from codes, but since it’s F&F time, it gets the cut. Made in the USA.
The Socks: Wigwam Merino Crew – $10 – $15
The Shoes: H&M Premium Quality Dark Grey Suede Desert Boots – $99. Might be made in Portugal? H&M’s premium suede shoes rarely disappoint. Should go on sale at some point too. Great shade of dark grey. Ships free with 0040.
The Sipping Liquid: Teeling Irish Whiskey – $35ish. Small batch Irish Whiskey that’s been finished in rum casks. You’d think that’d be an odd combination, but the rum lends a noticeable, yet not overpowering bit of sweetness to it. Great on the rocks or neat.
The Candle: Bespoke Post “The Den” – $9. Yes. A scented candle. But there’s not a hint of girly-ness in this thing. Yet it’s not overpoweringly woodsy or anything like that either. Look, we can all go a bit nose deaf when it comes to our place. So, make it smell better than normal for once.
The Entertainment: Peaky Blinders (streams on Netflix) & Hemingway Short Stories – $15. A bit “on the nose” for a men’s style site, but… who cares. Season three might not have been as good as one and two for Peaky Blinders, but Thomas Shelby still gets it done in post WWI Birmingham. Meanwhile, suggesting Hemingway is downright cliche, but his style of prose is perfect for short stories. And short stories are perfect for a rainy afternoon.
