Banana Republic: 30% off Exclusion Free / Extra 50% off Sale Items

BREAK = 30% off No Exclusions | Extra 50% off Sale Items

Mentioned this last week in the Thursday handful, but upon further review, this is actually a better deal than originally thought. In fact, it’s probably one of the better sales BR has run in a while. It’s a little confusing, and the fine print doesn’t seem to be quite accurate, but the bottom line is that the entire site seems to be on sale. Which is rare, being that BR always has exclusions, and in the last month or two, hasn’t been real forthcoming with codes and deals.

The 30% off BREAK code seems to work on not just full priced items, but “special savings” items too. So, you can knock 30% off items that are already reduced, as long as they aren’t in the sale section. (Confusing, right?) And if they ARE in the sale section? An extra 50% comes off, no code needed, at checkout.

Stuff like Traveler Jeans, Sportcoats, and Leather goods, which are usually excluded? They’re now getting the cut. Off we go with the picks. Code BREAK expires 8/3/16.

“Shaw” Italian Leather Lace-Up – $88.20 w/ BREAK ($148)

Here’s a perfect example of how this sale is actually better than what was thought at first glance. These shoes? Aren’t full price. They’re marked down from $148 to $126 (yet, not technically a “sale item”). So you’d think the extra 30% off wouldn’t happen. WRONG. It does. Net savings is right around 40% off retail. And that’s not half bad, for a really well done, basic blucher. All rubber sole is slim but still provides grip. Brown option is a perfect, middle-of-the road, do anything shade. A nice shoe for guys who don’t wear dress shoes that often. Sizing might run a half size small.

Luxe Touch Polos – $24.15 ($44.50)

Another item that you’d think would be excluded (since it’s marked down) but they’re actually up for the code (since they’re not in the sale section). Here’s how that price comes to be: Add to cart, $10 comes off. That makes for $34.50. Apply code. An extra 30% comes off of that. And then we get $24.15.

Modern Slim Fit Grey Chambray Blazer – $161 ($230)

Could easily become a go-to favorite for many. Yes, it’s fully lined. So maybe not the best for the sweltering months. But with jeans or chinos in the fall, winter, and spring? You bet. Fear not those Northern Lights. Light colored sportcoats are incredibly easy to wear.

Italian Suede Belt – $34.65 ($49.50)

Might be able to get for less with a future 40% off code… or… might end up on the BR Picks exclusion list for a while. Liking the looks of the buckle. And a blue suede belt is more versatile than you think (no, you don’t have to wear blue suede shoes with it… brown shoes work just fine). Hoping they make it in more shades in the coming months.

Modern Slim Fit Textured Italian Fabric Blazer – $161 ($230)

74% Cotton, 24% Linen, 2% Spandex shell that’s woven in Italy. Has a texture to it that’s interesting but not obnoxious. Lower patch-style pockets keep it casual, but it’s still super easy to dress up. Falls into the “polished cotton” sportcoat category.

Modern Slim 100% Linen Houndstooth Blazer – $161 ($230)

Another sportcoat, but this time in a fabric and with a lining that’s perfect for the hotter temperatures. Only a minimal butterfly lining in the back. So you won’t be sweating like a hog in this thing. Perfect light shade of grey too.

Stripe Linen Crew – $34.99 ($89.99)

In the sale section, so no code needed here. 100% linen, so expect a super lightweight, maybe a bit translucent, textured crewneck. Perfect with jeans and an OCBD when it’s more cool than warm, or, over a t-shirt with shorts when it’s more warm than cool, and the sun has set.

Japanese Traveler Denim in Rinse – $82.60 ($118)

There’s a reason why after 150+ reviews, these things have a rating of 4.6/5.0 on the BR site. Quite possibly the most comfortable pair of jeans out there (see that snap-back stretch at the top of this post). And rarely on sale. Now if they could just make a straight fit, team thunder-thighs would be oh-so-happy. Full review of these jeans can be found here. Available in multiple washes, but it’s the rinse that hardly ever gets discounted.

BR Standard Fit Patch Pocket Blazer – $161 ($230)

There’s no way for me to say this without sounding like a complete, utter, insufferable bro. So, I’m gonna temporarily embrace it. Some of us find the new “Modern Slim” fit on BR’s blazers to be just too damn tight. Especially in the armhole/sleeve region. I can’t get good ol’ Beebop and Rocksteady in the damn things. Each bi/tri duo is in a death grip. So the introduction of a new, more generous fit by BR was a good thing to see. Awaiting this to show for an in-person.

Slim or Straight Dark Rinse Kaihara Selvedge Jean – $105 ($150)

For the denim heads. Dark wash jeans made from denim sourced at Japan’s famous Kaihara mill.

USA Made Straight Dark Wash White Oak Selvedge – $138.60 ($198)

For the denim heads and/or those who put a high premium on Made in the USA goods. Still stunned that BR has partnered up with Cone Denim to make these things. Spendy for sure, but if you love you some high quality denim, might be worth considering taking them for an in-home try on spin.

Antique Cherry Leather Belt – $16.49 ($55)

Already in the sale section, so an extra 50% gets lopped off the current price. At just 1″ wide, it’s not some clunky thing. Much slimmer, although you can absolutely wear it with jeans.

Pima Cotton-Cashmere Elbow Patch Crew – $48.65 ($69.50)

Frankly, cotton/cashmere sweaters don’t get a lot of play on this website. Why? Because merino wool is usually pretty close in price, and the blend of those cotton/cashmere sweaters is almost always something like 95% cotton / 5% cashmere. This time around though? It’s 15% cashmere. And the elbow patches are a nice touch (to some, others just don’t like elbow patches). A warning though. Suede elbow patches often mean they’re a pain in the arse to clean.

Wyatt Single Monk Strap – $58.10 ($98)

Yes, you’ve seen these approximately 8,923,949,556 times on this website. But it’s worth noting that this time around, the chestnut color is also up for the discount. Often it’s just the burgundy. Which is tremendous in its own right. But the Chestnut is getting the double dip cut here too.

Merino Wool-Cotton Shawl-Collar Cardigan – $84 ($120)

A beefy looking wool-blend house sweater that’ll come in right-handy in the cooler months. Currently a “BR Pick,” so it’ll be excluded from codes for a while. But holding out for a 40% off code down the line might payoff in the end. Looks like it has some good looking texture too. 55% wool, 25% nylon, 20% cotton.

Cafe Moto Jacket – $315 ($450)

Leather jackets are not cheap. And while Banana Republic might not be the first place you’d think to look for a good quality leather jacket… they have been on a roll with leather goods as of late. If this thing looks and feels up to par with their recent shoes and bags, then it could actually be quite the steal at $315. Big fan of how dead simple they kept the design too. Less is often more with leather jackets. Unless you’re going for the Rob Halford look. Leather is sourced from New Zealand. So… sheepskin perhaps?

Dean Burgundy Leather Lace-Ups – $103.60 ($148)

Another item that might be worth holding out for a higher code for. Full review here.

The 30% off code BREAK expires on Wednesday, 8/3, while the extra 50% off sale items deal (no code needed) is set to expire today, 8/1/16.
