It is clearance season, and Banana Republic is getting serious about clearing their decks awful quick. Plenty of desirable items that appeared to have sold out around the holidays are back… and they’re back in the sale section already marked down. Add em’ to your cart and the extra 50% comes at checkout. As always, picks below are limited to items that had at least a decent size selection at post time, unless otherwise noted. Extra 50% off sale items ends on Sunday, 1/24, but something tells me that there’s probably limited stock on a few (most?) of these items. S0 if something catches your eye, you might want to hop to it. Or, of course, don’t.
These have dipped to this oddly low price in the past, but its been a rare occurrence. And they’re well worth the seventy five bucks. A real steal at this price. Especially the burgundy pair. Full review here.
Made from their extra-fine merino wool. Boiled wool walks this line oddly well between scratchy and soft. It feels denser than a regular wool fabric, but still breathes quite well.
Note that this is their “modern slim” fit, and not their old “tailored” fit. The modern slim is slimmer compared to the tailored fit. All cotton shell with subtle peak lapels and an eye catching ticket pocket. Extremely well reviewed. Sizes seem to be moving quick.
B.R.’s flagship sweater. 100% extra fine merino wool. Sleek stuff. Not thick and squishy. Fit isn’t as trim as it could be, but if you’ve got some bulk to you a little extra room to move might be welcome. Eleven shades are going for the $21.49 price point, while two others will run you $30.99.
Those with Thunder Thighs need not apply. This is BR’s “Modern Slim” fit. So, a true slim. 95% wool / 5% spandex blend, so expect some stretch thanks to that spandex, but if you’re quad-zilla? You probably won’t get these on past the ankle.
This sweater was sold out, then it wasn’t. Then it was sold out again, and now it’s back in stock. This thing comes and goes more often than the parade of skeezy looking dudes at our old next-door-neighbor’s house. (Pretty sure she was a hooker. The stuff you’d hear from her garage at 4am was… strange. Started thinking that was her “dungeon.”) Made from BR’s extra fine merino wool.
Full honesty: Wasn’t real impressed with this one when we did the annual best outwear round up. Looks better on BR’s site than it feels in person. But after 18 reviews, it’s 4.4 stars outta 5? So, what the heck do I know. Size shown is a Medium. Terrific muted plaid pattern.
Don’t automatically brush off that green pair on the right. You’d be amazed at how many things you can wear with a green pair of cords. Six colors to choose from, but some of the shades are pretty short in terms of sizing. A basic that’s now sitting at an Old Navy level price point.
Shetland wool from Scotland. It’s been a big trend for many retailers to source higher quality fabrics to use in their goods, but it looks like these were a dud for BR. $130 asking price is pretty steep for a sweater at Banana Republic. Looks like people put em’ out of mind, and now they’ve fallen to almost 70% off. A more casual crewneck, and that crew goes nicely with the slightly raised seams that run down the arms. Sorta rustic looking, but wouldn’t be too tough to dress up with a collared shirt.
Another 3rd party sourced fabric crew neck sweater… another flop. Seemingly so at least. Great looking waffle stitch to these. Three shades to choose from. Plenty of positive reviews..
Couple things to note: 1. It’s blue, not green as described on BR’s website. 2. It’s really not that hard to wear. At all. Shown above with BR’s “Ty” Chelsea which sadly, isn’t half off, but is currently sitting at a plenty tempting $107.
These aren’t the “rinse” shade as shown over here, but instead the more saturated “Indigo” option. Quite possibly the most comfortable pair of jeans on the market. Immense amount of stretch, while still looking like a normal pair of 5-pockets. As cheap as traveler jeans, of any shade, are probably gonna get.
Haven’t seen a BR suit go for that low in a good long while. BR suiting doesn’t go on sale all that often. Which is too bad, because they’re fused and at full retail, overpriced. But when these separates dip under $300, they’re absolutely worth considering. And now they’re just under two bills. The Italian wool has a nice drape and natural stretch. And for those that don’t like the slim lapels and button stance on the Thompson fits from J. Crew Factory, the BR Tailored Fit line is more like a budget Napoli from Suitsupply. Sold as separates, so if you’ve got odd proportions, you should be able to find a jacket & pant to fit your dimensions.
Both wool blend, both pull-overs, both have that waffle-style texture. Nice alternatives to wearing a hoodie.
Usually three colors + a fatter pattern in a gingham shirt can get awfully loud. But it works here, thanks to the checks being different shades of grey and what appears to be a de-saturated slate blue. Wear it with a solid tie and a favorite grey suit, or, under a simple sportcoat with jeans.
Shades of SPECTRE and then some. Big thanks to Vladimir T. who sent in the style tip on this particular jacket. While the sleeves and back are a cotton blend (instead of wool), he did say it’s darker and looks better in person. Nice slim fit as well.
They just added these on Wednesday. Back on sale for $107, but now that they’re in the sale section (they were a special deal before, and the extra half off wasn’t applying) they drop to as low as they’ve ever gone. Just over fifty bucks.
Maybe for a gal on your list? Valentine’s Day is coming up. Perhaps if you’re going big, and doing some sort of romantic getaway, give her this packed with road trip/flying/travel essentials with a brochure of where you’re headed? Even if it’s to a cabin in the woods two hours away?
