10 Best Bets for $75 or Less – Jackets, Sips, Shirts & more

Seventy Five dollars. That’s a lot of money. It’ll get you a couple pairs of Levi’s, a nice dinner out, or a couple months at your local gym. Seventy Five dollars. It is a lot of money, especially if you spend it right. Ten picks follow, all for $75 or under, and some of them are much, much less.

Todd Snyder + Champion Short Sleeved Henley – $29 FINAL ($88)

Contrasting sleeves, super soft cotton, small throwback Champion “C” on the right sleeve, and just different enough than a t-shirt. Made in Canada and noticeably nice quality (y’know, for being just a short sleeved henley.) Final sale, so no returns. Size shown above is a medium on 5’10” / 185 lbs.

English Pewter Hammered Flask – $79.95

Hammered eh? So it’s just over the $75 limit, but it does ship free. And look at the thing. As the weather cools off, prime-flask-season will start to appear. A little whiskey around a fire, or some schnapps to spike hot chocolate. Having a portable, hand-held vessel for your chosen spirit can come in real handy. 6 oz. Handmade in England.

Purging your Wardrobe / Making a Thrift Store Run – FREE

We’re getting closer and closer to fall. By now you’ve got an idea as to what summer clothes you wore, and what you DIDN’T wear over the hot months. Be honest with yourself. Are you just going to put it into storage, then dig it out next year only to not wear it for another season? Now’s not a bad time to clear the decks of things you just don’t like/fit in/care enough about to wear, and get your closet ready for the fall and winter. Head here for a 3 part series on conquering your closet.

Target Merona Wool Plaid Bomber – $69.99 (available late Aug.)

Not available quite yet, but has huge potential as a go-to, casual layer for fall. Black and dark grey plaid on a wool (you’d have to assume it’s a blend) bomber jacket. Good looking baseball jacket style collar as well. List price is allegedly going to be just under $70. Look for it online & in stores soon.

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. – $6 – $15

Consider it a winking, retro appetizer for SPECTRE (which doesn’t get released until November). Directed by Guy Ritchie whose style is, well, quite style-heavy. And speaking of heavy, Henry Cavil appears to have been hitting the heavy iron lately. I mean, he is Superman, but he’s an ox in this flick. Expect a Steal the Style in the coming weeks. And as always, affordability will be kept in mind. Just gotta see it first… yes, there will be a nerd in the audience taking notes on the wardrobe as the film progresses.

Miraval Ros© Wine – $20ish – $35ish

Yes, there’s a Brangelina connection here. But the fact is… it’s pretty darn good. Especially during these dog days when you and a group get together, and beer just sounds too damn filling, and cocktails too angry. It’s not a syrupy sweet ros©. Much lighter. Won’t be as crisp as a dry white, but doesn’t have the pucker factor of those either. Plus, the bottle shape does help it make for an impressive hostess/host gift if you’re headed to someone else’s place. Tasty enough that it’s strangely difficult to photograph a full bottle.

Banana Republic Extra Fine Merino V-Neck – $69.50

They’re back. Banana Republic’s flagship sweater. Currently sitting at $69.50 and a “BR Pick”, but the price will eventually come down with sales and codes. Compared to UNIQLO’s extra fine merino Vs, these aren’t as trim through the body, nor are they as wispy light in fabric. That said they aren’t overly bulky either. A terrific sweater if you don’t mind (or you need) a little extra width through the torso.

NBCSN for Premier League Live (and games of course)

Price is going to vary depending on your cable/satellite provider, with NBCSN requiring a sports package upgrade in many instances. NBC just signed a six year extension to carry Premier League games, even though some said they just couldn’t compete with some of the bigger networks. And it’s a relief to many that the likes of FOX or ESPN didn’t get them. NBCSN’s premier league crew just gets it right. It’s a classy group doing a straightforward, smart show. There’s no belching comedians picking games, no awkward bro-back-slapping between the hosts, and the production is slick & clean (i.e. no Robots on steroids smashing through walls). That, and everyone is extremely well dressed. This isn’t a shot against American Football. Hardly. The NFL is king in this country. But in an age when sports are pure content gold, the Premier League, and NBCSN’s coverage of it, has something.

Hook & Albert Leather Card Case – $55.00

A new arrival at Nordstrom that appears to have the right balance of color and burnishing. Available in grey, navy, red, teal, and yellow. Ships and returns free since it’s Nordstrom.

GAP Cotton/Nylon Mac – $70.80 w/ TREAT ($118)

An outstanding, super lightweight, dead simple piece of outerwear for the late summer/early fall months which often bring soaking storms. Just enough protection from the elements without weighing you down or heating you up. Full review of last year’s version can be found here. 63% cotton and 37% nylon. Code TREAT expires today, 8/17.
