He Wears / She Wears: Evening at an Outdoor Play

What are you going to wear? Sometimes it’s good to look at a few suggestions then add your own tweaks and ideas. A different spin this time… We’ve asked the ladies on Team Dappered to chime in with a specific look that they might wear. Our goal on the guy side is to match their level (not colors, that’s creepy) of dress. That way, no one feels under or over dressed for a specific event. An outdoor theater date can be tough to tackle style-wise. You want to look put together going to a cultured event, but also want to stay cool in the heat of summer. And what about the possible drop in evening temps? Here’s one outfit to consider.

The Pants: JCF Sutton Summerweight Chino in Dark Flannel – $49.50 Keeping the pants dark here, just in case you end up sitting on the ground, which can be the case in some outdoor theaters. If you happen to kneel on a knee in grass, the stain will be far less visible on a darker pair of pants. And these offerings from J. Crew Factory are lightweight, cool, and not so fitted that you’ll feel like you’re wearing chino leggings. (Would you call those cheggings?)

The Polo: Express Space Dyed Signature Polo in Russian Ruby – $29.90 (when you purchase 2 polos) Perhaps a color traditionally associated with fall, so consider this a tribute to the season (it’s only 3 months away!) that makes style that much easier. Also, since this is an evening event, darker colors won’t look out of place. This offering from Express should be comfortable, and the space dye will provide some visual depth. Pricey without sales, but Express is always having sales.

The Sweater: J. Crew Rustic Shawl Collar Cardigan – $82.60 w/ GOSHOPPING Granted, it won’t cool down enough everywhere to require a sweater, but for those areas of the country that do see temps drop come sundown, this all cotton sweater from J. Crew will be welcome. Plus, if your date forgets her sweater, having a sweater to offer her will score you some points on the ol’ romance-o-meter.

The Shoes: Aldo Alaun Peny Loafers in Black – $79.95 A loafer that lends itself well to a casual leaning dress ensemble. The shape is classic, but the matte leather and brown sole balance a dressy look without being overly stuffy, which is precisely what this outfit is going for.

The Belt: GAP Basic Leather Belt – $29.95 A classic, and should last for years to come.

The Barrier: Outdoor Blanket by Freddie & Sebbie – $65  Just in case you do end up on the grass, a blanket that has a nylon backing will keep you and your date from experiencing the irritation of a damp backside. The option shown is sold via Amazon. For a more affordable but less attractive blanket, head to LL Bean.
