Seems like the Allen Edmonds clearance section has been marinating for awhile now. Same stock, same pretty decent prices… but stuff just hasn’t been moving.
Guess they’ve had enough of that situation, and through Monday they’re offering an extra 20% off those markdowns. No code or anything, you’ll see the extra 20% get deducted once it hits your cart. And that extra cut dips some pretty highly desirable shoes down into Factory 2nds sale price territory, if not lower. Clearance accessories, belts, and clothes also get the cut…
A terrific price for a do-anything blucher (aka derby… it’s the open lacing). Great with jeans, trousers, and dressed down suits (think blue shirt instead of white, knit tie instead of woven silk). The argument for this particular plain brown lace up can be found over here. Scattered sizes at post time. UPDATE: Damn… they’re all but gone now. Just 8.5 and 9 left.
Wear em at present with dark wash jeans and a blazer. Wear them once it gets warmer with a linen or cotton summer suit. Spendy for a shoe that might not be something you wear every other day (or, more than once a week)… but built to last. And that suede. Combination tap sole on these as well.
These allegedly take a bit of breaking in due to the thickness of the leather, but once you get there, they should last you for a very, very long time. Dainite rubber sole. Not as thick through the toe in person, as they appear to be on the Allen Edmonds site.
Goodyear welted, lined (so, not as floppy as a regular desert boot), and comes with a Dainite rubber sole. A casual boot that’s built to last. Nice reviews on these too. Tons of sizes left in the snuff suede. All but gone in the stone.
Nice. A bit of color and a younger vibe, but still professional. Made in Scotland. Four different color/stripe schemes to choose from. 76″ x 13″ and doesn’t look to be too bulky. Good for keeping the wind from cruising down your topcoat, all without creating an enormous mush of fabric underneath.
#1 with a bullet for this sale. These boots are pretty darn fantastic. Extremely comfortable even over extended periods of time. V-tread tap sole. Sleek enough to wear with a suit. Built on the same last as the Strand and 5th/Park Ave. Yet… they’re now in the low $200s for firsts? What gives? This is probably a reach, but… the following was the only review for these boots, for the longest time, on the Allen Edmonds website:
“While this is a great looking dress boot for the office or with a pair of jeans the quality is simply sub par. My colleagues joke that my shoes are “crying” because they make so much noise. These are the loudest and squeakyest shoes I have ever owned. I am not overweight and my office mates roll with laughter when they hear me walking down the hall. These are not the shoes to wear in a Manhattan office when doing serious work, in fact they are embarrassing and have been relegated to rainy day duty despite being brand new.” – Anonymous
Oh brother. The horror. He sure it’s the shoes that are doing the crying?
Look, not saying that there can’t be a dud pair (or, an ill fitting pair) but the Bleeker Streets I’ve owned and worn over the last few months haven’t made a peep. Perhaps that one review scared off enough (read: most) from buying?
Seriously considering picking up the black pair just out of spite for Mr. Manhattan Office. (The Bleeker is also available and on sale in Bourbon and Bob’s Chili)
Not for everyone. Flashy, even though the tassel loafer is traditionally a conservative style. Vamp isn’t all that elongated, yet it’s not a stumpy thing either. Great idea to use black leather for the tassels.
Yep, Allen Edmonds has been dipping their toes in the “we’re more than just a shoe maker” waters for a little while now. Half-canvas construction on this thing. Made in the USA. Appears to be a colorful, but not clown-ish plaid. 75% wool, 25% nylon. Just regular lengths available. No short or long.
The pair in black would be a great way to otherwise liven up what’s normally an entirely somber dress shoe. Cap toe, nice profile… and perforations without the pinked/serrated edges brogues traditionally come with. A little funky, but not out of control. Sizes are scattered in black. Lots of sizes available in the louder, burnished walnut.
The Allen Edmonds Extra 20% off Clearance Sale ends Monday, 2/16/15. As is always the case with Allen Edmonds First Quality stuff, shipping and returns are free.
