That code is good for 30% off, and also gets you the Orient “freebie” package, which includes a quartz watch of Orient’s choosing and a lanyard. Thanks to Orient for providing a new code.
Think of it as a less toothy version of Seiko’s Monster
This is most definitely a dive watch. 200 m water resistance, luminescent markings on the dial (even the power-reserve indicator has lume to it) and an easy to grip 120-click bezel. Case measures 46mm but it sure wears a bit smaller. It’s no dainty thing, but it sits on the wrist comfortably, and doesn’t feel like you’ve got a brick wrapped around your arm. Maybe it’s the super-soft urethane strap. Unlike some rubber or synthetic straps, this one doesn’t fight against your skin. But for almost $400, it better not.
So what do you get for all that extra cash if you’re considering this instead of a Monster? The power reserve indicator is the most obvious addition, and instead of Seiko’s Hardlex, the crystal on the Orient is Sapphire. No day on this one, just a date window, and the bezel is black instead of matching silver stainless steel. Movement is one of Orient’s in-house hackable & hand-windable automatics. Shock and magnetic resistant.
There are many automatic dive watches out there with similar attributes that go for a much lower price. Again, just look at Seiko (which Orient happens to be a subsidiary of), and despite the M-Force Air Diver looking great, feeling great, and working mighty well… so does it’s cousin The Monster. All for $200 less.
