It’ll be here before you know it. Our annual 12 days of Dappered gift guide covers one item/idea each week-day for the next dozen days. All will be reasonably affordable, and at the same time they should (hopefully) appeal to someone who might drop on by this corner of the internet. So if you’re looking for ideas on what to give a decently dressed (yet budget conscious) fellow, or, if you’ve got friends/family struggling for ideas on what to get someone (you) who’s hard to buy for, check back in as this year’s 12 Days churns on. You’ll also find the growing archive here.
More for couples who are looking to give each other something that they can enjoy. Here’s what you’ll need to pull this off:
- Hotel Reservations at a nice place in town
- Tickets to a sporting event, a show, or the movies
- Dinner plans at a favorite restaurant (could be somewhere fancy, could be a burger joint)
- A piece of luggage (optional)
Whether you’ve got kids, pets, a job that doesn’t allow you get away that often, or you’ve blown your airfare budget for the year, doing a flyaway just isn’t possible for everyone all the time. So… take a rain-check on the big trip, but stay in town and take a vacation anyway.
Do everything in your hometown that you like to do… in one night or one weekend. Stay at the best (or a really nice) hotel. Go out on the town for an event. Have an incredible meal. Enjoy the hell out of where you live for once, instead of just occupying space there. The bag? Bag is just a real nice way to package up your in-town getaway. Here’s a few suggestion:
Wood & Faulk Northwesterner – $191.20 w/ CARRY20, Beckel Canvas Possibilities Bag – $65.00,
Herschel Ravine Duffel – $65.00, Frost River Flight Bag $140-$150 (top of page)
I love love love that Wood & Faulk bag. I’ve had my eye on it for a while but, as I’m not a frequent traveler, can’t bring myself to pull the trigger. There’s also the matter of champagne taste on a Bud Light budget.
I used a spontaneous staycation as an early present for my GF: World Series tickets at Fenway. She’s a Cards fan and I’m a Sox fan. One-upping presents just got real.
The shipping on the Beckel bag makes me the mad
After lusting over the Frost River bag for a while, I finally pulled the trigger a few months ago on the carry-on size. I love it. Looks amazing and seems like it will last forever. I certainly feel like much more of an “adult” lugging this around instead of the typical black gym duffel bag or backpack. I was worried the carry-on size would be too small for 5 days worth of clothes, but I was able to fit 3 dress shirts, 4 pairs of jeans/chinos, 3 sweaters, 1 pair of desert boots, 5 socks/boxer briefs/undershirts + dopp kit. Highly recommended.
there it is.
the weekender.
thanks man.
Save up for half, splurge on the other half and convince yourself it’s an “investment”. Enjoy it for the rest of your life. 🙂
That’s exactly what I’ve done with my Allen Edmonds and my Red Wings and my Ludlow …
I just tell my wife it’s okay because I’ll pass it all down to our boys when they grow up. She ain’t buying it. And if she is, then who knows what else she’s gonna buy.
