25% off at Brooks Brothers – No Code Necessary (exp. 9/30)
Brooks Brothers is one of those places where most of us have to sit tight for a sale. But a warning: prices are going up everywhere, so even 25% off almost everything at Brooks Brothers is still going to be a reach for some. Shipping is also pretty insane (unless you sign up for that ShopRunner service), so be careful with your clicking.
Picks below are gathered both from the regular and sale sections. Size selection had to be at least decent at post time, but you guys know how these things go. At one moment, they’re in stock and ready to ship… and then they’re not.
Filson Original Briefcase in Navy or Brown or Olive – $186 ($248)
Hat tip to Nathan K. for sending in the early style tip about these, and a nod of appreciation in the direction of Brooks Brothers. Hard to beat this price on a new Filson original Briefcase.
Red Wing 4522 Brown Pebble Leather Boots – $217.50 ($290)
“Pebbled” might seem like an exaggeration if compared to the football leather Allen Edmonds Promontory, but there’s some good looking grain to these all the same. Starts at under $300 (which is nice), and the $217.50 price tag after the discount seems fair.
Navy/Yellow/Grey Ribbon Belt – $36.00 ($48)
If you’re patient, you might be able to wait these out until an end of season clearance and land one in the $20s… if you’re lucky. They’re expensive for a ribbon belt, but they’re awfully nice. And the color combo is spot on for fall.
Golden Fleece Embossed Slim Card Case – $73.50 ($98)
Logos are bad. Right. They are… but… sometimes don’t they look realllllly good? No? Not to you? Oh, like you haven’t worn a No Fear or Big Johnson t-shirt before. Well anyway, tonal embossed Golden Fleece pattern, slim body, two slots on either side plus another slot up top.
“Red Fleece” Long Placket Polo – $29.02 ($64.50)
Shades of a Michael Bastian for Uniqlo polo? Sorta has that just off center style. Longer placket. Button down collar. Contrast striped- fabric collar. Washed for softness. From the younger leaning Red Fleece collection.
Blackwatch Plaid Luggage Tag – $28.50 ($38)
Pricey? Yeah. But the holidays are coming up. If you know someone who travels a lot, this might be one of those mini-splurges that they’d never buy for themselves, but would love to see on their luggage.
Brooks Brothers Goodyear Welted Chelsea Boots – $223.50 ($298)
Another one of those damn-it-looks-good… but damn-it’s-still-expensive. Made in Mexico, Goodyear welted, Dainite rubber sole, and the shape is downright perfect. Part of the best looking boots of the fall feature.
Rugby Stripe Knit Gloves – $27.48 ($48)
Always good to have a backup pair for when you can’t find your leather gloves. Cotton, lighter, but not boring.
Buckle Front Waxed Cotton Jacket – $168.00 ($448)
Already on sale and the extra 25% off dips it down into somewhat reasonable territory. Waxed cotton, metal buckles instead of toggles, and claims to be “Tailored for a slimmer fit”.
Filson Cover Cloth Jacket – $176.25 ($235)
Or… there’s this guy. Shorter. Made from their famous oil finished cover cloth. Also made in the USA. Limited sizes at post time.
Goat Suede Varsity Jacket – $224.25 ($598)
Also already on sale. Takes some serious onions to pull off.
Tie-Stripe Magnetic Money Clip – $28.50 ($38)
Even money clips can be casual. Metal, chromed out money clips can look a little stiff if you’re out in a t-shirt and jeans. This one doesn’t.
Marine Stripe Board Shorts – $33.75 ($75)
Slightly retro pattern, 8″ inseam, and a drawstring instead of scrunchy diaper-like elastic at the waist. Pretty close to perfect. They don’t appear to be lined though? From the younger leaning Red Fleece collection.
Red Wing 9024 Black Featherstone – $255 ($340)
Black uppers, toasty brown sole. More proof that black & brown can in fact go together. Going to be a dynamite combination with jeans for the lucky few this fall and winter.
Milano Fit Double-Breasted Cotton and Linen Sport Coat – $201 ($448)
Speaking of onions… This has been on the ol’ personal radar for a while now. And 80% of the grey matter is screaming: “don’t do it”… but 10% is saying “if there was any DB that could be pulled off casually, this is it…” The final 10% is still hung up on that Christina Hendricks .gif from Friday.
Slim Fit Cotton Tartan Pants – $73.50 ($98)
I’M SORRY. I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER YOUR TROUSERS. Festive. From the younger leaning Red Fleece collection.
Brooks Brothers Cedar Shoe Valet Kit – $96.00 ($128)
Full review over this-a-way.
Suede Tie Driving Moc – $111 ($148)
We’re just about clear of driving moc weather, so this counts as an out of season purchase. But drivers can make for a real nice lazy around-the-house shoe in the fall and winter. Great looking suede on these, and the tie is a nice way to finish off the top.
Fitzgerald Fit Seersucker Sport Coat – $179.10 ($398)
End of season on this one. Navy seersucker sportcoat cut in their Fitzgerald fit. Half canvas yet unlined? Interesting. Could make for a great travelling blazer.
Lambswool Argyle Shawl Collar Pullover – $148.50 ($198)
The Brooks Brothers 25% off almost everything sale ends today, 9/30/13.
What do we think of argyle sweater? I’m debating.
Mute everything else….and maybe,
White shirt underneath, and a good grey newsboy cap.
The Filson 256 and 257 have been on my watch list for quite a while. I might have to finally pull the trigger on the 256. What color do you guys like?

Which of the Filson bags would one get as a laptop bag? It seems they also have a “briefcase computer bag” which might be more appropriate as a laptop bag. Although neither are padded, I am so used to having padded laptop compartments it’s concerning.
Looks like those black Red Wings have already disappeared from their site.
Uff.. idk man. That would be one tough thing to pull of tastefully, in my opinion. But hey, if you like it and think you can rock it and that it’s worth $150, go for it.
I like those board shorts, but shipping and tax just kills the deal.
I went with the Navy. I think the navy can be dressed up more than the tan and look as “outdoorsy.” It will also look just as good dressed down.
Nice picks!
I bought the Filson in Navy.
I think the money clip, luggage tag, board shorts and driving mocs are good value and good looking. I would’ve bought some but the Filson is $ enough for now…
The card holder also good looking but v expensive for card holder.
Anybody use the ShopRunner service? Worth it? Thoughts?
I have it. Used it only a couple of times. I got it for free about 1.5 years now and still not paying. But it is nice to have that for fast shipping. If you are AMEX customer, you can get a year free according to a promo they are running.
Speaking of boots and black boots in particular. Original Chippewa Service Boots is better made than both mentioned RWs and costs $250 without any sales. Jcrew version adds some nice little details, like a loop on the back of the boot, and costs 10 bucks more.
If you are going to wear it with indigo raw denim a lot, go for tan. The indigo bleeds on the bag a little bit, but it adds a lot of character and creates amazing patina.
I stopped ordering from them because of their shipping. A huge nod to Nordstrom for setting high expectations 🙂
256 is bigger than it seems. I carry a MacBook Air, pretty thick textbook, a notebook, a binder and a few small things, plus occasional snack. Everything fits just fine, and there is enough space left to fit an extra magazine or two. That’s why I’m glad that I didn’t get 257 back then, simply because it’s just too big and doesn’t look as slim and nice as 256.
American Express cardholders can get a free year of ShopRunner.
I had the same question, and in the end I picked up the Filson Original Briefcase. It has enough space to hold your computer (I have a 14″ Dell for work and a 13″ MacBook), and a power plug or notepads. I also had the opportunity to look at the Computer Briefcase Bag and the only difference I saw was more pockets. Not really worth the $50 extra.
A lot of BB stuff, like those gloves, has me thinking, “Ten points to Griffindor!”
