Timex SL Series Fly-Back Chronograph – $104.71
Black trousers and brown shoes? That’s a no-go. Black ion-plated watch on a tan strap? Aaaabsolutely.
For whatever reason, that combination works, and it works awfully well on this Timex Chronograph. It’s got a rugged thing going for it, the contrast is there, and that noticeable difference between band and case allows you to wear it with just about any other kind of leathers (belt/shoes)… as long as they’re casual. No need to get too “matchy-matchy” with the strap on this watch, or watches of similar style.
This chrono and it’s different color-scheme brothers are part of the “SL” line. As much as we all love the $35 weekenders you can get at Target, the SL series has beefed up construction, and extra functions. They’re not quite to the level as the defunct TX brand (TX is dead, right?) but you can see and feel the difference between these and a standard Timex Beater.
Equipped with the Timex Intelligent Quartz movement, this watch gives you a standard chronograph as well as a 24-hour/second time zone function between 9 and 12. It takes a little button pushing to get the 2nd time zone set up, but the chronograph is standard and intuitive. The leather band is surprisingly soft and flexible, and like many Timex watches, this one comes with Indiglo.
The 43mm diameter is the sweet spot for many guys who are average to larger in size, and the watch does wear a bit smaller than that diameter. Nice weight to this one too. One drawback is the audible “beep” that goes off when you pull out the crown. Yes, it’s powered by a battery, but no need to shout about it.
Enter here to win the Timex T2N700 Chronograph seen above. As always, winner will be drawn at random. One entry per person. Deadline for entry is 11:59 pm ET 8/8/13.
UPDATE: Congrats to Scott P. who won the Timex T2N700 Chronograph.
If you like the vintage beige on black look check out the upcoming G. Gerlach Navigator. http://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/new-g-gerlach-thread-779454-139.html#post6625816
The lume color is going to change from what’s in those images and the date wheel will be black w/ white numbering. There will also be a version without the date at all.
I’m wearing the G. Gerlach Batory Big Date right now and it’s an awesome take on a Marine watch – can’t wait for the Navigator to be released. Note that we’re talking a completely different price range from the Timex.
I really like the look of this watch, but I wonder if it suffers from the often mentioned Timex Tick.
Don’t mess with TX…
Face is a good bit too busy for my taste, but I think I could manage with that handsome leather strap.
Need more hands.
cool watch.
curious about the backgrounds in the pics. particularly, what the heck is that a shadow of? my best guess: crab claw. or hummingbird?
anyways, thanks for the contest. didn’t know timex made a watch like this.
Yes it does. I own it and can’t stop wearing it but in a quiet room yes it has the (in)famous Timex Tick.
Sad that they killed off TX, but the IQ line is pretty nice. And more affordable.
Oh man this is one of my fav win-it’s so far. Like the post says it REALLY works.
Jazz hands?
Hummingbird. Bit of graffiti on an electrical box.
Now there’s an idea. A watch with actual hands at the end of the hour and minute hands, and it does jazz hands at the top of every hour.
I would prefer my watch do this at the top of the hour.
I’ve had this watch for a year and have gotten lots of comments on it. It doesn’t tick as loud as some other Timex watches.
Timex has a similar looking cheaper alternative. I’ve seen these at Target going for 39.99

This would great on my wrist. Fingers crossed.
Just saw the Steinhart for the first time this morning and immediately thought of this timex.
I picked up a similar watch from Amazon, and it’s probably my favorite watch. My strap is lighter than the one pictured, closer to the timex in this article.(http://www.amazon.com/Citizen-BM8475-26E-Eco-Drive-Strap-Watch/dp/B005MKGOOY/ref=sr_1_7?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1375980304&sr=1-7&keywords=citizen+eco+drive)
This looks schnazzy.
The color of the strap in these pictures seems darker than the one on Amazon, is it just because of the lighting or there are different color options for the strap?
Ik voel je pijn…
nice looking watch. Had no clue Timex made a watch like this
congrats Scott
