Sales that deserve some attention heading into the weekend, or sometimes, a bit earlier. Might not be some massive once a year event, but still worth a look. Those are what make up these handfuls. Expect these things when necessary. Five of the better sales, one for each finger, are below. Included are a few picks worth pointing out.
.
Banana Republic: 30% off Full Priced Suiting w/ BRSUITING

The Picks: Tailored Cotton/Linen Chino Suit Jacket & Matching Pant – $266 ($380), Tailored Navy Italian Wool Suit Jacket & Matching Pant – $353.50 (full review here)
Many thanks to Nicholas, Daniel, Ryan, Anil, and all of the others who sent in a style tip about this one. For whatever reason during these last few months, suiting has become almost always excluded from codes. Not this time. Good on Men’s (and women’s) full priced suiting with Mad Men excluded. Stand alone blazers aren’t getting the discount though. Yes, BR’s suits are fused, but they’re about as good as it gets for a fused suit. The fabrics are usually very nice, and the fit for some of us is close to perfect. Plus, if you’re in the market for a lighter summer suit that’ll see limited wear, your budget probably isn’t in Suitsupply territory. The 62% cotton / 38% linen tailored fit option drops to a very reasonable $266 with the code. A warning: Haven’t seen this in person yet, and reviews say it’s darker in person.
Cole Haan: 30% off your entire purchase with FAMILY30

The Picks: Air Monroe Penny – $97.97 ($198), Air Adams Cap Toe – $104.97 ($198), Merced Card Case – $20.97
Must be the Friends & Family season. Seems like Cole Haan has fully embraced the more color = better trend this season (and plenty of us disagree)… but there’s still some slightly toned down shoes and accessories lurking in their sale section. The code FAMILY30 knocks an extra 30% off everything.
Huckberry: 12% off Made in the USA shirts/ties from Lumina

The Picks: Lumina Classic Chambray in Rust – $74.98, Classic Chambray in Blue – $74.98, Weekender Oxford in Royal Blue – $74.98 (all reg. $84)
Made in Chicago and claims a slim fit with high armholes. A bit of a splurge, but they also offer half sizes (such as Small, Small+, Medium, Medium+ etc…) to help their customers dial in the fit. Might want to check that size chart at Huckberry for more.
jcp: 20% off w/ SPRINGUP (exp 4/17)

The Pick: Stafford Prep Straight Leg Chinos – $18.00 ($30)
So it’s back to couponing huh? Here’s the problem. The well liked OCBD, which was $25, has jumped to $40. 20% off = $32. If getting a discount is supposed to cause a rush of oxytocin and other feel-good brain chemicals, then for this $8 difference you better be reduced to a quivering pile of joyus muck on the floor. It just doesn’t work for plenty of us. $25 was great. $32? Well we knew it used to be $25. At least not everything has skyrocketed… yet. The Stafford Prep Straight Leg Chinos are still on sale for $22.50. Add on the code, and they dip under $20. Ah well, it was fun while it lasted.
DestinationXL: 25% off Highest Priced Item including Allen Edmonds w/ NEWH

The Picks: Flatiron – $251.25 ($325), 5th Street Boots – $262.50 ($350)
Y’know what they say about a guy with big feet? They say he can get 25% off Allen Edmonds Shoes at DestinationXL.com today if he signs up for their email list. It’s actually 25% off your highest priced item with the code NEWH, and once you sign up (lower right hand corner of their website) you’ll get a confirmation email. Click through from that and you should see the offer appear. Use code NEWH at checkout. And actually, you don’t even have to be a true big foot, since their sizing starts at 10 for their selection of AE shoes. Strangely, there aren’t any half sizes. And the 10 and 11 options might only come in wide widths. But, it’s been awhile since the larger guys in the readership got a hat-tip in their direction. Thanks to Andrew R. for the style tip.
Also worth a mention: Billy Reid’s Friends & Family sale is still going on. Spring25 takes 25% off through Sunday 4/17. Lord & Taylor is offering 25% off “almost everything” with the code FRIENDS. Even though it doesn’t appear to stack with other codes, that J. Crew Factory gilt city deal still seems to be available. Timberland is running a 25% off code, TFEST2013.
Quick Friday Update: Jack Spade has launched an extra 25% off F&F Code S13FFUS. That pushes the on sale Davis Brief in grey even lower, to a silly $149.25.
Anyone have input on the CH Adams Captoe? Is the heel wood between that rubber? Looks like they look pretty rough once they get worn in on Ebay, but I need decent brown dress shoes on a budget and I have a pair of Adams sharped like the “split toe” from about 5 years ago that were comfy (weather got them)
Any insight into the BR cotton/linen chino suit? I’m in the market for a summer suit, and that price is very tempting. I’m also interested in J Crew’s italian chino suit (which is in the $400 range, I think) so if anyone has a good perspective on either one…
express is doing a 40$ off 40 sale. code is 2020
It’s dead.
digging the in between sizing from lumina. if i had a nickel for all the brands I knew about that sold a shirt in smedium, i’d now have a nickel.
That’s a lotta tax. Was well under $400 for me.
Smedium!
I’d almost get the Air Monroe’s in green but I have a feeling I would almost never wear them. I wish they had a dark blue pair. There’s a pair of Club Commander Sunglasses that are pretty nice for around $50 after the discount, they have a similar back ordered pair on J Crew Factory for half the price though.
$371 after tax in VA. My condolences.
Hey colby, I have to comment because you are making the same decisions and going through the same thought process I was a month ago. I love the look of the J Crew Italian chino suit, but because it won’t get heavy rotation in my wardrobe, I went with the BR cotten/linen chino. True to BR suits, it’s a very, very nice, light summer suit. It’s true what others have said: it is slightly darker than the BR pics – it’s much more of a khaki color. That said, if you can deal with the color, the tailored fit is spot on (all their tailored suit jackets fit me perfectly right off the rack – I’m a 42R), the feel is substantial yet light, and the color matches really well with many different color shades of shirts and ties. So in my opinion, if it comes down to money for you as it did for me, you can’t go wrong with the BR option. Hope that helps.
Last thing: it’s listed as “light khaki” but it’s not a light khaki, it’s just plain khaki. AND it’s made in China. D’oh!
Everything was going smoothly over at Cole Haan until I saw the 10.95 shipping! Absurd
Everything was looking good over at Cole Haan until I noticed the 10.95 shipping! Absurd
Don’t mock the larger shoes. For guys like me with size 14 feet, growing up was a huge pain in the proverbial. My choice of shoes was trainers, if I was lucky. Even just ten years ago, finding decent shoes in my size was a: difficult and b: expensive. I thank the interweb for helping to change that.
Nowadays, I just hop over to AE (if feeling flash) or Florsheim (any other times – most of the time) for great looking shoes.
This……is not much of a sales weekend. Oh well, the JCrew Gilt discount was good if you needed some sorts and polos. I bought a pair of 9 inch gramercy shorts with my coupon code. Bring on the weekend!
Boy those Air Monroes in Papaya and and Rust Suede are tempting.
Thanks a lot Keith, that’s a lot of help. The “darker” thing doesn’t necessarily bother me, though I kinda like how the JC suit has a kind of golden tone to it.
Man, we think alike! The color, the tapered cut of the suit pants and slim lapel of the JC suit really has me curious, but as I wrote, the cost (I got the BR suit for the screaming deal of $248.52 with tax) swayed me back to BR. I’m going to eventually get one of those good lookin’ Italian made JC suits though. Good luck my friend!
I have a pair of Mercanti Fiorentini’s from DSW that have been great for me. $139 I think, but I had a coupon for extra off.
jcp also has $1 flip flops today only if anyone needs a pair or two, well 80 cents if you use the coupon.

FYI in case anyone cared, I went to a Cole Haan Store to check out the Adams Cap Toe. Was sooooo close to getting them but a few things kept me from pulling the trigger. 1. The sole is all rubber, even the heel. 2. Kinda a reddish color both of which I was still cool with but the pair I tried on had a weird nick where it looked like 3. the color had scratched off revealing a pink. It seemed like the burgandy color was painted on after assembly. I looked closer at the seams and you could see where the color sometimes stopped, I asked the guy about it who didn’t really know and brought me a new pair. Better but had very tiny flecks where the “paint” again didn’t stick. Really comfy and looked good but #3 was enough to keep me from paying 110ish
I’m in the market for a navy and grey suit. I went to BR yesterday and while the Tailored suits are nice the price with this sale comes out to $800 with taxes for me. Two same colored suits in the Napoli cut from Suit Supply comes out to $938. I think I can cut out the lattes and other incidentals for a month and buy the Suit Supply suits. Better suits for a minor price increase.
Colby,
I got this suit last week during a sale price, along with signing up for the credit card, for a total of $173.88 after tax and shipping.
My normal sizing is 36s jacket and 28×30 pants. To give some reference, Express suits fit me almost perfectly off the rack, except the weird pant crease, but I won’t go into that. The slim Bar III from Macy’s fits nicely but I had to get the pant legs slimmed.
Back to this suit. The color is close to what J Crew Factory calls “British Khaki.” I got it in yesterday and the 28 waist is simply too tight for me. As a result, it sits high above my hips and makes the pants “high waters,” (i’m from the south.) I am going to return for a 29×30 and I foresee having to have the pants slimmed down as well. My only other gripe is the jacket sleeve length seems to be slightly too short, while the jacket length is just right.
Florsheim Berkley is pretty similar to the Papaya option (on my screen, anyway… they’re both just a tannish brown, yes?), and you can pick it up for $72 from JCP w/ the 20% code. Mine are on the way.
Try having a size 17 ….
