Inexpensive suede almost always looks better than inexpensive leather (some evidence here and here.) But that wasn’t the case with the Urban Outfitters wingtip boots from last fall.
The cognac/almost orange pair of leather boots looked great and even got a nod in GQ. The suede on the other hand had some heavy burnishing at the toe and ankle. Not a deal breaker for a $50 on-sale boot, but not everyone’s style either.
Looks like UO has flipped the script on their two wingtip boot options for this fall.
This time around it’s the leather option that looks overly burnished. And the suede… man alive they have potential. Starting at $89 and you know they’re going to drop in price. Looked for these in-store, but they haven’t arrived at the Urban Outfitters closest to the Dappered Home Offices yet.
One potential hiccup would be the color. By now, most of us have ordered something online only to have it show up looking a few if not more shades off. The color is listed as “maroon.” That’s fine if they look like this in person… but how red are they really?
Standby for an in person since a pair is on the way for testing. If they’re as good as they look in the flesh, expect them to make the upcoming best affordable boots of the fall feature. Thinking they’ll play nicely with everything from a pair of jeans, a grey sweater, and a chambray shirt, all the way up to a thicker flannel or tweed suit layered over a v-neck.
Smart choices, both in style and practicality, for rainy fall days.
