5. The Splurge: Allen Edmonds Cronmok Unstructured Wingtip Boot – $275.00

Looks like the Neumok just got a taller brother. A cousin at the least. Comes in three different colors. V-tred tap sole should help keep you stable on slippery pavement. Made on the 5-6-5 last, which means it’ll be longer and narrower than most AE shoes. Not cheap by any stretch, but $100 less than the not-so-similar Dalton Wingtip Boot, and when it goes on sale, maybe these’ll drop down to $200 or less? Maybe? One day?
4. Wood & Faulk Blue leather w/ivory thread watch strap – $65.00

Portland Oregon’s Wood & Faulk’s pass-through watch strap was already a drool-worthy splurge at $65… and now they’ve gone and made one in blue. Wildly soft and pliable. Great contrast with the ivory stitch. Some color for the guy who wants something a little different, but won’t go near the bracelets trend. Horween Chromexcel leather.
3. Mossimo Supply Co. Twill Jean – $24.99

The non corduroy version of Target’s new cords. Comes in a few over-saturated but fall ready colors like these grey/brown and copper options. 5 pocket styling means if you’re hooked on jeans, you can put these on and still feel like you’re kinda wearing jeans, as opposed to dress pants or a normal pair of chinos.
2. “The Hardest Walk” inverted rum Manhattan

Oh man. Well first, in case you’re unaware, here’s what an “inverted” cocktail is. In plenty of traditional cocktails, you’ve got two parts spirit to one part (or less) vermouth. An inverted cocktail has that ratio flipped. But this one uses an overproof room. Try 146 proof, or 73% alcohol. Right. “Inverted” in name and execution, but not ethanol level. Other ingredients = orange bitters, top of the line sweet vermouth, and Gran Classico (if you like Campari, have this… you’ll keep bottles of this brown viscous stuff on hand from here on out). Maria can have her doorbells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles. For plenty of us, this is a preferable pile of favorite things in one single glass.
1. Banana Republic Bridge Coat – $250.00 ($175 at 30% off)

Featured in GQ’s most recent issue and worn by the Cleveland Brown’s rookie running back Trent Richardson. More than a couple of us noticed this when paging through the magazine. Saw it. Want it. Tore out the page and scribbled “most wanted” on it in the upper right hand corner. Wondering what the fabric will be (wool blend? all wool?) and how far down it’ll dip. Doesn’t appear to be available yet. Meanwhile, #21 at :29 over here. Damn. That stinks.
That coat.
J Crew Factory Thompson wool suits on sale — 30% off (around $200 total).
Man that coat is just amazing. I must have it; after the 14th.
Roll Tide
Shame that coat isn’t on the website yet. There’s a sweet 35% discount right now.
I still think closed lacing on a wingtip boot (or really most any boot) just looks a little…off.
ever notice how often Joe uses the word “plenty” in all of the posts? interesting haha
I saw those pants at Target the other day. They looked great.
Awesome, thanks- picked up the Navy for $138. Looks like the pants won’t ship until October though
Want. want want that BR coat
Coat looks incredible. Not sure I could pull off the camel though.
Love how GQ lists the BR coat for $250 and 9 other coats for $1800+
I saw an ad for the Cronmoks with the blue one front and center. I might have to buy myself an early Christmas present.
No 32×34 available on the Mossimo twill jeans? For SHAME, Target.
Don’t you mean in “plenty of the posts?” (we all have our crutches…)
dude literally broke his ankle at :29 there. count it
Picked up a couple of the 5-pocket pants. Loving the styling, but get the feeling durability will be an issue. They’ve stretched a little bit and I’m noticing a bit of color fading after just one wash and dry. I would recommend air drying if at all possible (I only dried them to try to get them to shrink a bit).
For sure. PS glad you didnt take that in an offensive way, as it wasn’t meant to be. Im’ newer(ish) to the site and love it.
Price be damned, I can’t settle for anything short of the Dalton.
i have one thing to say and that is ROLL TIDE!
I’m with you. Except for the entire price be damned part… wish the Daltons would go on sale every so often.
Plenty glad to have you! (Couldn’t help it, welcome aboard!)
I picked up a pair, and they seem to run very long. I’d take a flier on the 32×32.
I saw the Mossimo pants this weekend and picked up a pair. First day of wear today. Here’s a seat of my pants rundown:
Fit: They say “Straight” on the tags, but I’d call them “Slim.” Or “Slim Straight.” Very similar to Old Navy’s Slim Straight premium denim, in fact. I’m a big guy, so fitted pants can put me in “Mr Incredible” territory real quick, but these work.
Sizing: On these it’s pretty inconsistent. I tried on my size and the waist was great, but the inseam was really long. Going down in inseam somehow shrunk the waist to “mildly unconfortable,” but didn’t actually shrink the length in any significant way. I went with my standard size, and will either get them tailored or rock the cuff. For reference, I’m normally a 32, and these suckers are easily a 34 strong in length.
Finish: The color is great (I got the copper). The chambray waistband and pockets reinforce the fact that these are a lightweight pant. No stray threads on the seams, zipper functioned smoothly and the rivets are … standard.
Wear: The lightweight material on these offers some give and stretch. Great for wrinkle-resistance, but not so great for structure. But at the end of the day, they got it done. As a desk-sitter and meeting goer, these did wrinkle a bit behind the knee, but far less than lightweight khakis do. Color held up in the wash quite well.
That all said, the value on these guys is tremendous. I might have to pick up the “Mustard Seed” color, though I wish that was available as a cord …
I have the BR bridge coat..purchased late last yr. Im a slim 6’2 (mostly legs lol) and it hits mid-thigh for me-shoulders & upper body very fitted also. Quality material & great fit -for the price. As I mentioned Im very slim, but this coat fit me right off the rack -likely to get a little tailoring this season though. Overall a fantastic coat by Banana Republic -receive(d) numerous compliments & ‘second looks’ here on these NYC streets lol. Would highly recommend if you can pull off the look.
U should still be able to receive the discount in-store..
Is the BR coat in store yet?
Really intrigued by The Hardest Walk. There’s a rum bar in downtown Phoenix, I might need to try it out over there soon.
Nice, sharp, classic. Well done!
