After the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale for Men – 2012
It’s over. All over. The Half Yearly Sale has come and gone, and now… well now there’s even bigger markdowns. And there’s new stuff in the sale section too. Sometimes when the regular half-yearly sale disappoints, it’s the follow up rebound sale that really comes through. Might just be the case this season too. As with all sale posts, only items with at least a decent size selection (unless otherwise noted) get the nod. And for this after-the-sale sale in particular, only items with deeper discounts or new additions to the first go-round are shown below.
.
Cole Haan Grey Suede Chukka – $98.90 | Blue Suede Chukka – $129.90 ($198)

Ooof. Hell of a price for grey suede chukkas. And the blue suedes are awfully tempting too, even though they’re well into triple digits. That Nordstrom free shipping both ways thing is awfully nice with footwear. Tons of sizes. Pebbled brown leather also available at $113.90.
Wallin & Bros Linen/Cotton Speckled Sportcoat – $98.90 ($198)

Description calls it “lightweight, trim-fitting”. Sounds good so far. Linen and cotton blend, now under $100, and on its way for an in-person review. Got high hopes for this one.
Jack Spade Wing Nylon Duffel – $195.00 ($395)

Two hundred bucks isn’t cheap, but it’s pretty good if you’re hooked on the Jack Spade style. Dobby-woven nylon exterior with leather accents. Good size too at over 3000 cubic inches of space.
Boss Black Hankie Wingtip – $111.90 ($225)

Thanks to those metal eyelets, Boss Black’s Hankie wingtip leans pretty casual. Great for jeans, but not so great for suits. Not so great at over $200, but mighty fine at $112.
1901 Knit Ties in Blue with Pink, Blue, or Lilac Vs – $18.90 ($39.50)

A slimmer 2.25″ in width from a Nordstrom in-house brand. Now less than something from TheTieBar once you include the shipping difference. More ties from 1901 here.
Calibrate Cotton or Wool Plaid Sport Coat – $121.90 ($245)

The wool is real tempting at this price, but Calibrate has been known to cut their blazers real short. All right, fair enough, one’s on the way for an in-person review. Expect a couple of grey sportcoats to get the once over here on the site in the next week or two.
Converse Jack Purcell – $29.90 ($59.95)

Under $30 with free shipping both ways, in a few highly versatile colors for summer? Sure thing.
Nike Cortez Classic – $34.90 ($70.00)

Hell. Yes. (Fully understand that these are a “Hell. No.” for plenty, and nowhere near as versatile as the Jack Purcells from Converse. Bulbous, ugly, pretty.)
Ted Baker Washed Striped Grey sportcoat – $179.90 ($365)

Still pretty far up there, but uber-relaxed summer ready sportcoats like this washed striped cotton one are few and far between this season. Would order for an in person, but if three grey sportcoats show up on the same day, Mrs. Dappered is gonna stage an intervention.
Life after Denim Cotton Blazer – $63.90 ($128)

Casual, cotton, and pretty chopped looking in the tail. Sizes are down to L, XL, and XXL, but could be a steal for those of you who fit in with the upscale rugged look.
Ted Baker Kitbag Duffel – $146.90 ($295)
Hard not to like the deep blue on brown color… but it’s not leather. All PU. Which is to be expected at this price for a bag that’s pushing almost 3000 cubic inches of space. Not gigantic, but there’s some space here.
Torino Woven Stretch Canvas Belt – $41.90 ($85)

Leather trimmed, made in the States, and now an extra couple of bucks off.
1901 Carson Grey Nubuck – $49.50 ($99.95)

Lots of grey in this post-sale sale event. If memory serves, there weren’t a wide variety of sizes when the half-yearly sale launched. There’s a decent selection now. Under $50 and great for summer nights with jeans.
Eton Dots Tie – $61.90 ($125)

A total and complete splurge, but good grief look at it. Made in England.
SUPER Flat-Top Sunglasses – $77.90 ($156)

There’s no real time limit on this one. Watch for prices to continue to drop in the coming weeks. Who knows, maybe they’ll dip a lot further before their upcoming Anniversary sale (fall stuff on sale early) in mid-July.
I know it looks a little sketch, and is still pretty expensive, but seriously, for 116, I’m grabbing another:

Best. Sweater(ish thing). I have ever owned. Very slim fit, especially in the forearms. Throw a v neck undershirt under it and If you are a thin, lightly-moderately muscular guy, you will look fantastic in this.
All I used to wear in 7th grade were white Nike Cortez. That was their initial run.
Nike cortez + george costanza color scheme = win.
Picked up two belts and a pair of slim navy wool trousers. Thanks a lot Dappered–I was supposed to be done shopping the sale, hahaha.
you guys think they will do a price adjustment? i just bought the purcells last week. their wording on the price adjustments seem vague. do they consider the converses a designer item?
I contacted them after a second round of reductions during the Anniversary Sale last year and they adjusted the prices.
thanks redbeard!
I’ve been waiting for those Boss wingtips to go on sale since the last nordstrom’s yearly (or half yearly?) sale post.
I might pick up one of those pointed knit ties too since they are a steal at that price
The Life After Denim cotton blazer has such a high button stance. Not sure if it’s supposed to be like that but it’s a major turn off
I’ve got both the Cole Haan blue chukkas and the grey plaid Calibrate jacket (paid full price earlier this spring, so of course they’re on sale now). Both are good pieces and have gotten compliments from co-workers. I’m of medium height (5’9″) and the jacket is a good length for me – I wear a 40R when sized in numbers, bought this jacket in Large and had it tailored a bit (in at the sides a little and arm length shortened).
They should do a price adjustment within 14 days of the original purchase.
