The Codes – Ralph Lauren: MAYPS12 Rugby: RUGBY15
The RL code expires Monday 5/7, while the Rugby extra 15% off code doesn’t expire until Wed. 5/9.
You might have to hold your nose on a few logos, but there are some surprisingly good prices here. Both Ralph Lauren and Rugby have re-stocked their sale sections, and the extra 15% off codes MAYPS12 and RUGBY15 put solid oxfords under $40, summer ready shoes near $60, and even a suit with potential at $160. Nice Ralph… the last time you were this helpful, you pointed out the dog in the vent.
Free shipping kicks in stupid high for each brand ($195 for RL & $125 for Rugby), but it’s a nice and even flat rate of $5 for purchases under that… If you’ve got either a RL or Rugby store nearby, and you’re headed there, you’ll need to print off a copy of the email to get the extra 15% off. Polo Striped Web O-Ring Belt – $38.68 ($65) | D-Ring Belt – $29.75 ($50)

Points for the color combination on that O-Ring belt. Both have a warm weather vibe to them, but can be worn year round. The D-Ring Belt comes in an off-white, khaki, and red too.
Polo Slim Fit Short Sleeve Rugby – $53.13 | Custom Fit Long Sleeve Rugby – $62.48

Expensive, even on sale, but both appear (appear) to come with the reinforced quilting through the shoulders. Adds a little extra beef which is an interesting detail. Both fit slimmer than a standard fit.
Polo Terry Ribbon or Roderick Calf Drivers – $63.11 ($99)

The Terry Ribbon is a new personal favorite, and the leather is oddly soft for being an inexpensive, made in China shoe. Really, really nice to wear. Super comfortable. The Roderick driver tones down the prep a notch by skipping the striped ribbon and going with boat-shoe-like rawhide laces. But if you don’t get too preppy everywhere else, the Terry Ribbons will blend in nicely. More on those here.
Polo Custom Fit Chest Stripe Polo – $53.25 ($89.50)

Really sporty. Really country-club-ish. Really different. And again, north of $50, so spendy. Comes in a few colors, but not your every day striped polo.
Rugby Chino Newbury Jacket + Vintage Chino Pant – $159.16 Total ($267.50)

Not a bad price for what could become a go-to relaxed looking Chino suit for the spring and summer. Was pushing $200 not that long ago. Ships free too. These two better match, being that when you click on the color for “classic khaki” for the pant, the pic seen above is what you see. Three button front that looks to fold/roll to look like a two. Patch pocket up top with flapped patch pockets below. Sizes for the jacket are of the S/M/L/XL persuasion. Got these on the way for an in person, and we’ll see how it stacks up against the other summer suits that’ll be tested this year.
Rugby Small Skull Polo – $32.73 ($55)

Just a polo with a small logo at a reasonable price. Not the big brother polo pony either, but a skull and cross bones with a small “R”. Again, it’s a logo, but at least it’s small. Available in a boatload of colors, uh, Matey. Also available in their closer “vintage slim” fit, but not nearly as many colors are available there.
Rugby Solid Skull University Oxford – $37.83 ($65)

Like the polo above, at least it’s a small logo. And if you’re always using your oxford cloth shirts to layer, then nobody is going to see it anyways. Finding a white oxford cloth button down for under $40 is a challenge. Also available in blue, purple, and a few other shades.
Rugby Quilted Jacket – $84.99 ($148)

For those that are still looking for a shorter, casual, weekend jacket for the cooler spring nights this year. Quilted pattern with a nice ribbed mini-shawl collar that stands or can lay flat and look like a baseball jacket.
Rugby Checkered Card Case – $21.24 ($35)

Obligatory. Had to finish with this since its made numerous appearances. Bold, loud, and hidden from view 99% of the time. Still well under $30 even with shipping.
The extra 15% off at Ralph Lauren code MAYPS12 expires Monday 5/7/12. The Rugby extra 15% off code RUGBY15 expires on Wednesday 5/9/12.
Those Terry Ribbons ate dooooope. I def dig them. I may have to stop in the RL store.
I’ve got this pet peeve about boat shoes that don’t have true wraparound lacing. Just cheapens the look, imo.
Anyone willing to send me something up here in Canada ? I would fit in their kids rugby shirt, but they don’t ship to Canada.
I think I’m in love with the quilted jacket.
Striped polo has be reminiscing on keg parties and co-eds.
Does anyone know the fit of the solid skull university oxford? slim fit? classic/baggy fit? Thanks!
You mentioned “too preppy.” I’m not sure what that means.
Only 4 days into the month?!
Thanks for the tip on the chino suit. At that price how could I not?
Yep. Allen Edmonds did a two for $200 outlet sale, I couldn’t resist. Add $45 shipping + those pesky “suprise” UPS custom/brokerage fees, and there you go, busted budget.
Dammit I want those ribbon drivers. Unfortunately I have already purchased 4 pairs of shoes in the last month or so…
Do you think they are warm weather friendly only? I need (read: it would be nice to have) a daily driver (pun intended) that could work in summer & winter. My boat shoes are going to look odd with my peacoat…wait, I now own boots, I don’t need these for winter wear.
Dammit I want those ribbon drivers…
Just received a tax credit. So, anyone want to send me a rugby shirt ?

Do the Roderick Calf Drivers habe a giant polo logo on the back?
Answered my own question, it’s right there in the picture. That is the one thing that is making me question buying either driving shoe shown here.
Anyone know how the fit is on those chinos? For $40 a pop in a bunch of different colors, I might take a pair or two.
How do the ribbon loafers fit? Should I purchase them like boat shoes (1/2 a size down) or are they true to size?
Anyone know how this stuff fits? Does Rugby run big, small, or right on? IS it slim fitting? What would you compare it to?

I had to order 1/2 size up myself. The ribbon clamps down the shoe, and my true size fit very snug, even w/o socks.
In my limited experience the Rugby tops run a bit small. I’m a 38-40″ chest and 6’2″ and had to size up from a Medium to a Large on one of their sweaters. I don’t even bother with the ocbds because the sleeves are too short, but I’m sure they’d be fine on anyone under 5’11”. The pants, however, I’ve had to size down 1-inch in the waist. Got a pair of the university chinos and university cords, too loose in the waist with my normal 32×34, but the 31×34 fits great. Considering another pair of those, and perhaps a polo since, for a tall guy, short sleeves shouldn’t matter. YMMV.
I just ordered the shoes by calling up a local retail RL (that didn’t carry them in stock). By placing the order through them, I got free shipping and they should be here by next Friday.
(Just a tip. CSB and all that)
(So, after tax and the coupon, the order total came to $68.13 in LA.)
Must resist! The Khaki suit looks perfect for the hot Texas summers. The long sleeve rugbies would go nicely with a bright pair of khaki shorts.
how often do those ups broker fees hit you, man? that sucks.
Just to give you an idea : last week I sent a defective hard drive to get a replacement. They sent the new drive from Idaho by UPS. The result ? I have to pay $35.81 in brokerage fees to get my new hard drive.
Looks like the shipping is up to $8…anyone else have this problem? Or did I miss something?
Scratch that, I see the economy shipping option now…sorry for the mistake
Gotta say, just tried on the khaki Chino Newbury suit in store…fits like a glove but didn’t seem really ”summer suit” weight. It’s only partially lined but where it is lined in the chest and back it feels kinda thick. Joe, I heard you’ve got one in the mail and I’d love to get your take on it compared to other summer suits out there….
The chinos are the best in fit I’ve ever seen..it’s really a nice slim fit..will be buying a pair
just got the drivers today – might be the smallest running shoe i’ve ever seen
actually- i had to fight to get them on and once i did they fit.
