40% off one full priced item with BREXTEND
Code expires today, 5/29/12. Free shipping kicks in, as always, at $50.
25% is good, 30% is real good, and 40% off is about as good as it gets at Banana Republic. But there’s a catch. Actually, there’s more than a few catches. Here they are:
- It’s good on just one item. Not your entire purchase.
- It has to be a full priced item. So, no sale stuff.
- The code won’t work on a bunch of exclusions: All men’s suiting (not just monogram), Men’s Bags, leather apparel, and their popular Gavin, Dawson, & Emerson pants.
Know that stock on blazers is awfully low, and that might be in part due to their select customers sale they ran over the long weekend. BR was offering 30, 35, or 40% off your purchase. Obviously, only a few people would get the 40% off deal, but there’s been a hack of sorts floating around the web that showed a user how to rig their browser’s cookies to get the highest 40% off deal. Abusing the system usually leads to ruining the fun for the rest of us, so… with margins and production costs tighter than ever, it won’t be shocking if BR quits doing those types of promos in the future. Here’s a look at what’s worthwhile of what’s left.

Slim Fit Stretch Dress Shirt in blue or white – $35.70 ($59.50)
A total workhorse. More durable than the Express 1mx, and fits somewhere between that 1mx modern and fitted fit. So it’s slimmer, but not super tight. Easy to get away without tailoring if you’re using them to layer under sport coats or sweaters. Doesn’t come in neck and sleeve sizes, but instead S, M, L, etc… The light blue is a perfect light blue. Collars are large enough for tieless. Also available in tall, and a heads up: lately, GAP inc links have been opening up to the tall tab. Which is strange. Full review over here.
Cotton/Nylon Khaki Trench – $118.80 ($198)
A complete steal at under $120 shipped. A perfect 3-season coat that’ll look terrific over whatever suit you’re keeping the weather off of. Or, wear it as casual as you’d like. Mainly cotton with nylon worked in to keep the water out. Customer reviews are all over the place (Sleeves were too short! Sleeves were too long!). Some say it fits a little big, but a medium felt fine for me. To give the coat a more fitted appearance, tie the belt behind you in an overhand knot, or, even a four-in-hand necktie knot. Full review here.
Corbin Sunglasses – $46.80 ($78.00)
Might be the deal of this sale. Sunglasses aren’t an exclusion, and these are awfully nice for under $50. More substantial than a pair of Ray-Ban new wayfarers, but they don’t look like you just came from the local half-pipe either. Best for larger faces. With sales, these could become a terrific value.
Striped Tailored Slim 8.25″ Short – $35.70 ($59.50)
Awesome. They start at over $50. Believe it or not, that’s good because that trips the free shipping. Most BR shorts are just under the free shipping threshold. Shorter but not mega short, 8.25″ inseam with subtle buckles at the sides for a secure fit.
Silk/Cotton/Cashmere Crewneck Sweater – $41.70 ($69.50)
Same material as their well liked silk blend v-necks, only in a more casual crew (the v-neck version is also on sale). Super lightweight, smooth, and strong. Could fit a little trimmer, but a real easy way to upgrade from a sweatshirt on the weekends. Ships free since it trips the $50 and over free shipping threshold pre code. Also available in a blue and orange.
Slim fit non-iron French cuff royal oxford – $47.70($79.50)
For the french cuff fans who know how it’s a struggle to find one in a slim fit at a reasonable price. These have a bit more beef than a standard poplin thanks to an oxford like weave, but they still wear more like a poplin dress shirt and less like an oxford cloth button down. Non iron finish that’s not too stiff. After 140 or so customer reviews, these things have a 4.5/5 star rating. On the internet. Where people will complain about anything.
Zip Pocket Jacket – $78.00 ($130)
As low as this one has gotten yet. A casual jacket, but still pretty sharp looking. Nice contrasting piping on the edges of the pockets and main zipper. It’s all poly, but doesn’t feel like a flimsy windbreaker. No elastic on the cuffs or hem is a major plus.
Would you wear it? Grey Cotton/Linen Tailored Fit Blazer – $150 ($250)
The color and the fabric are really eye catching in person, and the tailored fit is a dependable closer at the waist and higher in the armholes off the rack silhouette. But man… those pockets. Some guys are fine with button flap pockets on their fall tweed blazers. Gives em’ a bit of a hunting/sporting look. But for others, those flaps are a deal breaker. Especially on a warmer weather blazer. $100 off with the code, but… would you wear it? Leave your take below.
