Win it: The Sierra Trading Post Eliminator

November 7, 2011 By Joe | Heads up: Buying via our links may result in us getting a commission. Also, we take your privacy rights seriously. Head here to learn more.

The Eliminator – Five from Sierra Trading Post

You can get more than outdoor gear at Sierra Trading Post.  A lot more.  And they’re proving they’re one of the best well kept secrets in men’s affordable style right here.  These five items are all competing to survive.  Each day we’ll eliminate an item until only one remains.  Vote for the item that you’d LEAST like to own at the bottom of the page.  The item with the most votes gets ejected at the end of the day.  The item that remains at the end of this battle royal will be won by one of you.
.

Sebago Fairhaven Boots – $70.20icon ($135)

Eliminator Boots

From a well loved brand with weekend good looks to spare.  Moc toe with contrast stitching, a contrast sole, and equipped with a wet traction outsole.  Sebago knows their way around docks as well as city side walks.  Rugged but not so rugged that it looks like you just got back from a backpacking trip.  *Use code ALSNOW1 to get this price.

John Varvatos Star USA Subtle Plaid Sport Coat – $223.97icon ($495)

The subtle and shadow plaid thing ain’t going away, and for good reason.  While everyone else is in boxy fit boring solids, it’s good to have not just well fitting jackets, but something with a bit of depth and character in your arsenal.  Varvatos is one of the best at combining tradition with modern looks.  A 60% wool / 38% poly / 2% lycra blend.  *Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Swiss Military Hanowa Chrono Pro – $181.97icon ($525)

It is a quartz, but it’s made in Switzerland and looks incredible thanks to a white face, contrasting black sub-dials, and that black outer tach ring.  One of those watches that you’ll wear casually plenty, but can also use to dress down a suit and tie thanks to the sport influence.  41mm in diameter means it’s right in that not tiny but not gigantic wheelhouse.  *Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Marc New York Boston Lambskin Motocross Jacket – $237.97icon ($595)

A lot of leather jackets take a turn for the worse once they add too many zippers, hardware, epaulets, etc…  This isn’t one of those.  Just one review on STP but it’s glowing.  Lambskin and retails for almost $600.  *Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.

Barrington Leather Burke & Willis 15″ Briefcase – $279.97icon ($700)

Seven hundred bucks retail, marked down to $400, and made from harness leather according to a five star review.  Contrast stitching throughout and a “low-luster” patina so you wont blind anyone on your way into work.  Has a professional but still rugged look to it.  Not some stiff hard edged attache by any means.  *Use code ALNOV1 to take 30% off orders of $150 and above and to get this price.
.

Here comes the tough part.  Pick the item that you’d LEAST like to win and vote below to have it eliminated.  One item gets cut every day.  The item that’s left at the end of the week will be up for grabs and you’ll be able to enter to win on Friday.  Make your case for what needs to go and/or what should stay in the comments.  Voting closes at 11:59pm ET.

Which Sierra Trading Post item should be ELIMINATED?

  • The Sebago Boots (25%, 291 Votes)
  • The Varvatos Sport Coat (15%, 177 Votes)
  • The Swiss Military Hanowa Watch (10%, 110 Votes)
  • The Marc New York Leather Jacket (15%, 174 Votes)
  • The Barrington Leather Briefcase (34%, 392 Votes)

Total Voters: 1,143

NOTE: If a size specific item (the boots, sport coat, or lambskin leather jacket) makes it to the end, and the winner’s size is not available, they’ll be given the option of a Sierra Trading Post gift card equal to the STP price of the item.

All of the items are great, & it’s so hard to choose a LEAST favorite! But I’d go with the Sebago Boots…only because I really love the Swiss Military Hanowa Watch, Marc New York Leather Jacket, Varvatos Sports Coat & the Barrington Leather Briefcase!

  2. Jessy Diamond says

    November 7, 2011 at 5:23 AM

Not an easy choice. Winning the watch would be great.

  3. Gusto says

    November 7, 2011 at 5:49 AM

Why does everyone want to eliminate the boots? It looks awesome despite having the lowest price. Save the Boots!

  4. Adam Parker says

    November 7, 2011 at 6:01 AM

Definitely the boots need to go.

  5. guest says

    November 7, 2011 at 6:28 AM

Agreed, not a fan of the boots at all.  Not even a price thing, they just look weird.

  6. Adam says

    November 7, 2011 at 6:51 AM

Blows my mind the briefcase is top of the list. I feel like people may be voting for what they want, rather than don’t want.

  7. Thomas says

    November 7, 2011 at 6:53 AM

I’m not feeling the briefcase. I like the watch and the boots.

  8. Mike N says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:02 AM

Just not a fan of the briefcase. Don’t like the contrast stitching and overall shape. Can’t see myself using it.

  9. trash says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:11 AM

Got rid of the boots, mostly because I want everything else more.

  10. Bennynojets says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:19 AM

The “boots” have to go.  I am very tired of boat shoes.  I see them everywhere.  I want to ask everyone wearing them if they are about to board a boat or just got off one. You would think everyone in DC has a boat. Ok, rant over.

  11. Ben E says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:22 AM

Morning fail… voted for item I most wanted to stay… *facepalm*

    Cheers,
    Ben

  12. Sam Bishop says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:36 AM

    Definitely the boots.

  13. Sal Orlando says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:44 AM

eliminate the watch. i like the boots

  14. Lee Wilson says

    November 7, 2011 at 7:53 AM

I’d have to say … I dislike the watch.

Hopefully the coat or jacket endures to the end.

  15. Jackson says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:07 AM

Not mad about that leather jacket, but that might very well be due to the horendous shirt it’s paired with

  16. Matt Court says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:15 AM

I agree that the boots have to go. I don’t mind the style per se, I just don’t need black boots. I’m also not a big fan of the weathered leather.LOVE the Varvatos jacket though. I’m looking to beef up my blazer/sport coat collection and this would be the perfect piece! Just make sure they save a 42 long for me.

  17. Matt Court says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:17 AM

I don’t mind the briefcase but I think it would be doing better if it were the brown option. The contrast stitching on the black, combined with all of the hardware a flaps makes it look a little busy. The brown leather helps with this.

  18. Tristan says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:19 AM

The bag seems almost purse-like to me; what with the shape of the top flap (almost crescent like) and the white stitching on leather with double buckles … it just makes me think “purse”.

  19. Tat says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:19 AM

I’d have to say the Varvatos Sport Coat. Not a fan of THAT specific Shadow Plaid design on that piece.

  20. adasjas says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:23 AM

The Varvatos coat. Looks a bit thick.

  21. Patrick Regan says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:24 AM

I’m gonna go with the boots.  I just can’t see myself wearing them with anything that doesn’t look a little silly.

  22. Travon says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:26 AM

I don’t like the busy look on the front of the briefcase. The pouches and buckles seem overdone. The leather jacket would seem to be the best choice.

  23. Gaoman3 says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:37 AM

    The Briefcase, definitely.

  24. David says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:46 AM

I like the idea of the briefcase but that contrast stitching kills it for me. Not that it’s terrible, just the least best

  25. Aaron says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:50 AM

The contrast sole on the boots just doesn’t work for me.  Other than that, everything else is just…better.  So long boots.

  26. tim in boise says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:53 AM

Lose the boots. Keep the sports coat. That was easy!

  27. Ben Smith says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:57 AM

The pouches and contrast stitching on the bag ruin it for me.  It needs to go.

  28. David D says

    November 7, 2011 at 8:58 AM

The Barrington briefcase just doesn’t do it for me. The quality looks great, but something about the aesthetics of the design is putting me off…

  29. BenR says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:06 AM

Honestly, I really like those boots. They’ve been in and out of my STP shopping cart for a while now… I have a hard time pulling the trigger on them because I’m not sure about the “roughed out” suede, and I already own a pair of casual-ish boots.

But I’ve got to vote to eliminate them… mostly because I could see myself buying the boots, but the rest of the items make better giveaways because they are more in “splurge” range for most of us.

  30. Soccerthunder86 says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:10 AM

i have those boots in brown and they are awesome! briefcase needs to go

  31. Roquesdoodle says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:10 AM

I voted for the sport coat.  The lapels are just a tad too narrow for my taste.

  32. Cannon says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:15 AM

Hm.I wonder if these poll results are a good indication of which product will win…

  33. Kevin U says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:16 AM

very much dislike the briefcase. the pointed ends and contrast stitch definitely look a little odd

  34. Patrick H. says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:22 AM

Never been one for briefcases like that

  35. sam says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:30 AM

A very difficult choice, but my least favorite is the  leather jackets. On the other hand I really like the boots who can look good with both dress and casual looks.

  36. Anonymous says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:33 AM

100% agree. Put me on Team Boot!

  37. MrGinghamShirts says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:33 AM

The briefcase. That thing is enormous.

  38. Anonymous says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:47 AM

I didn’t vote for the briefcase but I can see why some did.

First off, it looks kinda purse-y. It might be the pic but it looks like it could be a purse and alot of men can’t really pull that off. Plus, I don’t need a briefcase and, in general, neither do most men. Every body can use a new jacket or pair of boots but how many briefcase does anyone need, if any?

  39. Phil H. says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:47 AM

I just can’t picture myself walking around with the bulky briefcase. Love the watch, jacket, and sport coat though!

  40. Anonymous says

Actually just checked the site and found out that the boots don’t come in my size.

    Team Something Else!

  41. Jon Space says

    Those boots are ugly!

  42. Josh Venzor says

Voted for the briefcase because I don’t use one. Love the watch though

  43. Shane Shepherd says

    November 7, 2011 at 9:55 AM

Love the sport coat!  I wouldn’t wear those boots.  Everything else is pretty awesome I’d say.  I’m surprised to see so many votes for the bag right now.

    The briefcase

  45. Csmith1521 says

  46. Drew C says

    November 7, 2011 at 10:31 AM

That watch just doesn’t stand out enough to me. It’s fantastic, but all the other pieces seem incredible.

  47. YackoYak says

    November 7, 2011 at 10:39 AM

To me that briefcase is more of a man purse than briefcase. It’s not masculine.

  48. guest says

you must be a blast at parties.

  49. JoshuaL says

  51. Marshall Lilly says

    November 7, 2011 at 10:57 AM

The more I look at that briefcase, the less I like it.  There’s something ‘off’ about that for sure.  I’m wishing I could go back in time and tell past me to vote differently….

  52. caleblargo says

    November 7, 2011 at 11:06 AM

the watch goes for me. I’m not an analog person 😀 second would probably be the briefcase. though it’s nice, and i like bags, it’s a little too feminine-styled for my taste.

  53. Kingsleyleung says

    November 7, 2011 at 11:07 AM

the plaid sport coat reminds me of the BR blazer, tried it on in store the other day, liked it but sadly even after 40% off it is still 375×0.6= 225 = too damn expensive for a student

  54. David S. says

    November 7, 2011 at 11:30 AM

The briefcase looks frighteningly similar to my mom’s purse.

  55. Alex Shepherd says

Have to say the lambskin jacket.  Not my style.

  56. Anonymous says

  57. Dave says

  58. Vadims Pitlans says

  62. Matt Thoma says

  63. Matt says

Huge fan of the boots. Briefcase needs to go.

  64. Derek Martin says

    November 7, 2011 at 2:14 PM

Out of the bunch, I’d have to cut the briefcase.

  65. Tyrone says

    November 7, 2011 at 2:22 PM

I voted out the boots too, because I already have boots that I love, and I also have some Sebago penny loafers that I’m not crazy about.

  66. Mike N says

    November 7, 2011 at 2:26 PM

Exactly the same feeling I get from it. Purse.

  67. Jason Alexander says

    November 7, 2011 at 2:45 PM

    I can’t stand those boots.

  68. Joe says

  69. Sam W. says

They’re all great products, but I’d say lose the briefcase.

  70. Alex B says

    November 7, 2011 at 3:20 PM

Probably the odd man out here- but I’d love the sport coat or boots. I voted down the watch.

  71. Anonymous says

  76. David P. says

    November 7, 2011 at 4:45 PM

The boots look awesome, but don’t come in my size. I’m hoping to win that watch!

  77. LW says

    November 7, 2011 at 4:48 PM

The briefcase should go. Maybe it’s just me, but it looks a little more ah, European Men’s Carry-All (purse) than it does briefcase.

  78. bruschetta says

    November 7, 2011 at 6:25 PM

The boots are hideous. The sports coat and the watch would be my picks – those I would actually wear. I would get grief for wearing a leather jacket as a life-long vegetarian.

  79. Anonymous says
