Amazon’s Competition for Gilt – What is MyHabit.com?
Just one year after Ebay launched their now forgotten flash sale site, Amazon is taking a similar swing at the genre.
To be fairly fair, it’s not a fair comparison. Ebay branded their version of Gilt as the Ebay Fashion Vault. That doesn’t really fight the entire Ebay = Used Stuff perception. MyHabit.com only has one tiny mention of Amazon at the bottom. Seems like it was built to stand on its own image.
But it’s a pretty crowded field and standing room is in short supply. There’s just so much noise between Gilt, Beyond The Rack, Haute Look, Rue La La, Jack Threads, and the soon to be launched any day now:

Right. Any day now. Gilt still seems to be the big dog, but interest (at least here) in their doings has tailed off dramatically. The brands and deals just don’t seem to be that enticing any more.
But Amazon is a gigantic company that surely must pull serious influence with brands. They’ve already sent out a notification of MyHabit.com to at least some of the Amazon.com email list. MyHabit.com also claims all orders come with free shipping and free returns. Nicely done there.
What they don’t seem to offer quite yet, is some sort of store-credit bounty motivator to get people to share the news about the site. Seems like a lot of these sites have ridden that horse into at least small levels of success.
And what about the brands? The launch was yesterday, May 3rd. They had two sales for the guys: i.am clothing, and Bed Stu Shoes. The latter of which seems to perpetually be on JackThreads and HauteLook. That was it. They’re off to a tremendous stop. Now… it’s early, but are you really going to pay them any attention? Or is this one more email you’ll ignore every day? Leave it all in the comments section.
