10 Best Bets for $75 or Less – April

Best Bets for Under $75.00 – April 2011

Seventy Five dollars.  That’s a lot of money.  It’ll get you a couple pairs of Levi’s, a nice dinner out, or a couple months at your local gym.  Seventy Five dollars.   It is a lot of money, especially if you spend it right.  Ten picks follow, all under $75, and some of them are much, much less.
.

1. GAP Cotton Classic Blazer – $98.00 (but easy to find on sale)
Cotton, cool, but still dressed up.

These are always on sale.  All you need is 25% off and they drop under $75.  Plus, they ship free since they’re over $50.  The Khaki just got released.  The black is pretty slick.  Full review here.  Try the code GAPGET25 through 4/19, but it’s one of those sneaky “select customer” sales.

.

2. Lands’ End Canvas Oxford in Gull Grey Stripe – $19.99 (reg. $39.50)
Neutral with just enough texture.

The only complaint on this Oxford is that it feels like the second button could be just a touch higher.  It spreads a little farther than some will like, but most won’t notice.  Especially if you have it under a blazer, a sweater, or you’re wearing a casual tie with it.  Not super trim, but certainly slimmed down, and a great feel to the fabric.  Free shipping on no minimum with the code SSCANVAS and pin 1202.  Expires 4/19

.

3. 1901 Suede and Canvas Belt – $49.50icon
Suede at the front, canvas the rest of the way.

Expensive, but if you want a warm weather belt with just enough character, then worth taking a look at.  Unlike those grosgrain D-ring belts, this one will actually hold throughout the day.

.

4. BDG Striped Knit Ties – $14.99 (reg. $24.99)
Surprisingly versatile

Can Spring and Summer have an official tie?  Not sure if Mother nature would be willing to sell that type of sponsorship, but if she is, it most surely would go to the LEC Italian Silk Knit, and these as understudies.

.

5. Bertucci Titanium Field Watch – $44.96icon w/ code ALSPRING1 (reg. $99.00)
Silver dial = put any strap on it.

A better looking, better deal on the Bertucci field watch than what you’ll find through Bonobos.  These come from Sierra trading post, and to get it marked down under $50 use the extra 25% off code ALSPRING1.  The code takes 25% off ANYTHING, site wide, and is good through 4/20.
Update: Sold out.  That happens.  Proof it was a good deal I suppose.  Code ALSPRING1 is still good.

.

6. Lone Madrone Zin of Steel – $21.00

Serve chilled. Hot dang.

From a small Central Coast of California winery that’s not afraid to be different.  A super-young zinfandel that was left to its own devices in steel instead of the usual oak.  Best served chilled, it’s a true red (not rose) wine that has some real jump to it.

.

7. Bonobos Crocodandies – $50.00icon (reg. $88.00)
Kermit's right. It's not easy. But it is something.

You can wear these.  Just not sure if you want to.  Keep the rest dead simple.  Navy cotton blazer that’s been perfectly tailored.  White button up shirt.  Black tie.  Knit if you got it.  All the guys who want that Italian look go for red pants.  Which is just fine.  Green with the Bonobos fit = better.  One review says they’re more of a “mint.”  That’s good.

.

8. J. Crew Cotton/Linen V-Neck – $48.99 – $69.99 (reg. $98.00)
With a far from wimpy collar.

Cotton plus the roughed up texture of linen.  Was just an extra 30% off (dropping it to under $50), now back up to under $70.  Final sale item so you can’t return it.  Might be worth waiting on until it goes back on extra-double-sale.  Could be a go-to sweater for those mornings when you want to drink your coffee outside, but it’s still a bit brisk.

.

9. Levi’s 501 Clean Rigid Jeans – $44.00 (reg. $58.00)
No whiskers. Not even stubble.

Clean Rigid is the color.  Not some sort of description of the fabric.  Same ol 501 fit, that great dark blue “rigid” shade, but no whiskers.  That’s the clean part.  Stitching looks to lean towards white instead of yellow.

.

10. The Custom Pulsar:  Watch – $55 – $100 | AE Strap – $6.50
Grand total - $61.00

Find yourself an inexpensive Pulsar (Seiko’s step-down brand) or even the coin edge Invicta, grab this forest green strap from American Eagle, and swap it in for the leather or metal band your Pulsar showed up with.  Looks much more expensive than it is.
