Heavier fabrics, weightier pricing. Those are the cliff’s notes for Indochino’s just launched new line of suiting. Five new suits and they’re all $400 and up (okay, one’s $399). But any sort of concern over the perceived the price increases probably isn’t warranted, being that Indochino still offers their essentials line which hits around the mid $300s. If you’re wondering where their terrific ultimate gray suit went? Word from the Indochino guys is that it’s being restocked and should be back within a week or so.
What follows is a totally subjective ranking of the new line, with the (again, subjective) most desirable first:
Expensive, yes. But what you get is a reportedly heavier wool tweed, and an extremely deep pattern. A dark blue Prince of Wales plaid like that is rare in a suit for $500 or under. Indochino loves to ratchet their model’s, um “detailing” up to extremes (A collar pin? Really? On a scale of 1-10, that’s an 11.) but consider a toned down notch lapel on this suit, a plain white shirt, and a black tie. Let the pattern do the work. It looks awfully good.
.
A few clicks lighter than their navy option. Tweed, medium heavy fabric, looks perfect for this time of year and like it’d be a nightmare in June. Model appears to be showing the advanced options: functional buttons and ticket pocket.
.
So you want to do stripes but you’re afraid you’ll end up looking like Al Capone. The key is to have your stripes thin (not thicker chalk stripes), and in a shade that’s somewhat close to the tone of the background fabric. The analyst nails that look. It’s not 100% wool, but instead around 97% wool and 3% silk, which is a great touch. No polyester in this one. I asked, they answered immediately. No poly. None.
.
Holy Glen Plaid. In its most traditional form. Grey. More contrast than the blue diplomat at #2. KIND OF LOUD. Not for beginners. And most would be best to wait for the Ultimate Gray to return.
