Banana Republic 5-Pocket Pant – $69.50
Hi my name is Joe, and I’m a denim addict.
It’s strange that I’m at my most comfortable in a suit, but when not wearing one I’m almost always in jeans. A standard pair of chinos just feels too flimsy and/or boring. I feel odd walking into my favorite bar in them. I feel weird getting onto a plane in them. I just can’t seem to get to that middle ground of khaki most every other guy on the planet has found so easily.
But these I could get used to. The Banana Republic 5-pocket pant is designed exclusively for guys like me. They aren’t work wear chinos so forget about stiff and rigid cloth. They aren’t casual Friday standard pants either.
They’re made from a thicker but not bulky cotton which moves amazingly well. The rise leans a perfect low but not too low rise. The legs are trim, but they aren’t a slim or traditionally relaxed fit. And if you put your nose right up to the fabric, you can see that there are tiny stitching cords running north to south.
Points to whoever made them in two shades of grey (another addiction) as well. I’ve also seen them in-store in a few other colors, including deeper earth tones. That should make GQ’s Jim Moore happy.
Here’s the best way I can describe these: Imagine a traditional medium to slim fit chino was merged with the Levi’s 501. The offspring took all of its shape from the 501, and about 25% of it’s toughness. Not bad right? That blend makes them a huge find. Expensive, but precisely what some of us need to be dragged from our denim ruts.
